Zun is a masterful artist.
Look at his deisgns, they are iconic. If you see the characters, you know who they are, even across multiple artstyles, at varying skill levels.
Zun's art hit a perfect balance. It had characters who were recognizable, yet there was enough malleability in the designs for fans to fiddle around and put their own spin on things.
Touhou has a pretty big fanbase, with verious levels of devotion/autism. If Zun's art was so shit, there wouldnt be so much fanart of his characters.
Zun is a master craftsman, you are just too much of a pleb to realize it. As expected from a man who wants a tattoo of his waifu, while not actually etting a tattoo of his waifu becuase he considers her ugly.
