So in the US it's mostly considered unusual and dare I say nerdy to listen to Jpop or any Japanese music. Now if I was born in Japan would it be unusual or nerdy to listen American music or western music in general?

No
>>
>>14469583
So it's definitely not nerd status? Have you been to Japan or live there or something?
>>
Why do you ask /jp/?
>>
>>14469588
I'm just wondering I think it's crappy that I can't walk around listening to my Jpop without drawing unwanted attention and maybe getting laughed at while If you live in Japan you got the best of both worlds.

Western culture is the globalizing culture, so it's mainstream in any country hit by transcontinental corporations.

Why not use headphones? No one wants to hear your music proud l period
>>
>>14469597
thats because japanese music sucks
>>
>>14469688
I do but the main problem is I can't jam with friends of blast it in car.
>>
>>14469715
Or blast it in the car"
>>
But then again I don't think it's worth visiting Japan just to listen to the music I want.
>>

But if you want to make it public, you either have the options to not give a shit, or play whatever is popular or in tune with the times.

It sounds more like you either need to keep your exotic hobbies to yourself, or get different friends.

I just need some otaku friends that aren't overly weird.

I used to jam banjo finger powerhouse in my car, go for it

Yes it would. Just look at their top 100 song lists.

It's almost impossible for most popular Western songs to get into their top 10. It's really kind of unique, same as in South Korea, super hard for Western songs to get into top anything. In any thrid world country, their top 10 hit songs are almost always 60-70% from the US/UK/English speaking hit songs.

Western music fanbases are considered super hipster in Japan too.

Japan simply puts their music far above white piggu trash.
