Is it even worth it to buy thje catalog? It's all online now anyway.

I'm considering getting it as a curiosity from my stay in Japan, but it's actually rather expensive for something effectively pointless.
>>
>>14454845
I buy the paper catalog because I want to support the event and because I have a collection. I pirate the DVD catalog, originally because I already felt like I was doing my part buying the paper one, and even more now because I despise the decision to try and DRM it. The DVD catalog is infinitely better than the web one though.

Okay /jp/, its motherfucking Santa.

Give me some links to some stuff to buy and scan/rip. If the stores are not up, general info is OK. Preferably not porn, but that is just because everyone gets the porn releases.

Last time I didn't go to East halls 3-4.
They're on 2nd floor right ?
How do you access to it ? From stairs/elevators on the middle of east hall ?
>>
>>14465375
You must mean the corporate area in West halls 3-4. You can gain access by going out into the main center courtyard area (where the coffee shop and Family Mart is) and going up the stairs on the outside of the building. The other way in involves going around the back and up the rear steps if they're open for basic foot traffic. There are times when it is closed to people going up due to the large lines that form up there and use the stairs, so your best bet is from the front center area.
>>
>>14465747

Just go to Denkigai the day previous.
I see a lot of Comiket activity here but barely any Denkigai discussion, although I guess you really can't share what you get there like you can share doujinshi and music so there's not much to say.

Some of them you can just even order online like the EC Russel shops for a small extra markup for shipping etc.

>>14466267
August is one of the nonparticipants so I guess you do need to schedule a Comiket run there if you really want the August winter set or that 8k yen wallet.
>>
>>14463138
>>14462707

Do any of you have a download link for the openings he did for the two Escu:de VNs? I can't find it anywhere even though it came out 12 days ago and the japs won't let me ship it via Amazon.

I'd get it off AmiAmi but it will probably arrive in January now.
>>
>>14466869
You mean the Baby Fantastic!/Come Home! Princess single? It was re-released on 27th November and still no rips. I'd give a two more weeks but dunno, maybe it'll pop up on chinks forums.
>>
>>14466604
>Just go to Denkigai the day previous.

Yes, I'll go to Denkigai too, but August isn't there. The wallet is expensive as shit, so I'll abstain, but I want the winter set. Well, waiting in a line for hours will be an interesting experience in itself.

Also yeah, /jp/ doesn't really talk about Denkigai (or Kyarara). Most people probably don't know about them, or don't care, since those are eroge-only events.
>>
>>14468612
/jp/ doesn't really talk about any events other than comike, reitaisai, and M3.
>>
I really hope an artist I like is going to sell his limited copy CD at C89 too, if he's even going. He sold it at M3 but I forgot to send in an order form and it sold out.

So, first time Comiket goer here. I am not looking for something in particular, just want to take in the whole spectacle and maybe buy some stuff. What is a good time to go there?

I've recently developed a bad habit of not paying enough attention to the music releases, then downloading them a little late and not listening to enough of them, and still having some unlistened. Are there any drum and bass releases of note? It seems like that genre is dying, or dead.

If you don't want anything of personal worth, you can go at any time before closure. You could go at 11 am and skip the lines, but end up finding nothing of worth to buy. I assume you're just there for the "I was at Comiket" thing and not really investing in anything (I'm wondering "why bother?" in that case, but to each their own).

The site has content/genre overview by day. http://www.comiket.co.jp/info-c/C89/C89genre.html

Generally, Day 1 is gayday, Day 2 is CanCooles, 2hu, music and games, and Day 3 is porn, eroges and ges. You'll find a bit of everything in every day I guess, though.
>>
>>14471719

>>
>>14472182
I know I am. It's actually the only thing I've felt hyped for the whole year.
>>
>>14471719
One thing to keep in mind is the industry/corporate area in west halls 3-4. They don't follow any sort of schedule or genre pattern each day, so you can spend most/all of your time up there on the days where the primary focus in the other halls is stuff you may not be interested in (for example, day 1).

Another consideration is the fact that the vast majority of the more popular items available in this area will be gone by the end of day 1, if not sooner. If you want some of that corporate stuff then you are best served spending day 1 up there and dealing with the crazy lines and crowds so you can focus your attention on days 2/3 solely on the stuff your really want.

By day 3 the corporate area is mostly void of anything worthwhile, other than the rare case where the vendor had planned on stocking additional goods each day.
>>
>>14471857
If you're purchasing the ticket now then probably not, unless you can find some sort of incredible deal. If you plan ahead and purchase your ticket far enough in advance then you can typically pay much less. Hotels in Tokyo are indeed expensive but more and more people seem to be staying in manga/internet cafes that allow you to spend the night there.

>>14471719
Maybe I misphrased that. I do have the intention of buying some BlazBlue/XIV stuff that might pop up, be it porn or not. I have no idea how popular that stuff is, but as far as I can gather you just have to be quick with limited Boat stuff these days? Might be cool to look at some cosplays as well, dunno how much time I have left.

>>14471617
Really? Ninhonjin getting pushy?
>>
>>14473082
You haven't truly lived until you've been squashed in a sea of sweaty japs.

Also, for anyone who is lining up early, here is an awesome tip I learned last time I went: Day 1 is fujoshi day, so everyone takes that day to line up on for the west halls to get to the corporate booths. The trick is, line up for the east halls and then cut west as soon as you get in the building. You'll get there WAY faster. The same applies on Days 2 and 3: Everyone lines up for the east halls, but you'll beat them all if you just line up for the west halls then cut east once you get in.
>>
>>14473082
Depends on the circle, that's why everyone does their research way ahead of time. Don't be that guy that misses out on stuff just because they don't have an appropriate attack plan, check the online web catalogue, buy a catalogue or wait for the DVD catalogue rip online or something and look for something you like instead of wandering around lost. You'll have time to do that after you get your loot.

>>14473094
Nice tip, I'll make sure to remember it.
>>
>>14473082
>Really? Ninhonjin getting pushy?

Is this sarcasm? If you're serious, then yes, Japanese people do get insanely pushy. Try riding Tokyo's metro somewhen during rush hours.
>>
>>14473094
Last summer Comiket, I did notice how on the third day, it's not crowded in the corporate halls. And I've also noticed that their ads have those sold out markers stuck on it.
>>
Will there be a meeting after day 1?
>>
>>14474042
There's been a meetup every day for the last few comikes, especially winter. So most likely yes.
>>

>>14473181
I'll be getting the catalogue next week to do some research. Any good websites that have some previews of the releases?

>>14475117
Try http://nagomi.ne.jp/web/top/ . It is a used Doujinshi shop, but a lot of obscure Comiket stuff ends up there for a few days. Just gotta be fast with buying it. For a japanese website it is always amazingly convinient to browse.
>>
>>14475238
You start the search from the catalog and then search the circle on the internet.

Or that's how I did mine, anyways. After I browse the music circles, I'll be researching the ero mangas next.
>>
>>14470421
As such, people will not be complaining about releases if they have no popularity, since /jp/ is inherently small-time.

Again, you can always suggest something, but if you don't then you have absolutely no reason to complain when no one ends up scanning it.
>>
>>14458452
>its motherfucking Santa

>No lolicon

This is why I stopped believing in you. You're nothing but disappointment.
>>
Ah, how I wish I could go, just once.
I would love nothing more than to meet my favorite artist in person and buy a book from him.

Unfortunately it was not meant to be.
Well, you can't always get what you want, I suppose.
>>
>>14475238
https://webcatalog.circle.ms and just browse the catalog. If the circle has links to a homepage/pixiv/twitter account then you'll be able to easily jump to those from their catalog entry and see if they have anything you're interested in. The more active ones typically list exactly what they're selling in their catalog entry as well, to include older books/goods that they'll have for sale in addition to any new stuff.

It also helps because some circles share a table with each other, and in some cases you can find a circle you've already been interested in and discover that they're sharing space with another circle that you may find interesting, but would have otherwise known nothing about until you walked up to it. Also, by checking out their pixiv and twitter accounts (if they have one) you can sometimes randomly run across tweets and bookmarks they have for other circles that you didn't know anything about.
>>
>>14475313
>Again, you can always suggest something, but if you don't then you have absolutely no reason to complain when no one ends up scanning it.

This precisely. I always end up walking right past a table - in some cases I even look at their book/CD/whatever and pass on it - then come back here and notice somebody complain that nobody scanned/ripped that item. If it looks decent and I know that somebody really would appreciate a copy of it or scan/rip then I would be much more willing to pull the trigger.

Both t+pazolite releases sound like shit and the other well known j-core artists aren't looking too good either. Luckily some groups I've never heard of before like Ox-Project seem to be bringing out decent stuff.

>Both releases sound like shit
Sanctuary sounds like Electric Butterfly aka shit.
The scary part is that Hommarju's track on that release apes t+pazolite's style better than his own track.

On ponko2 all the new songs sound like shit (except for maybe Ultimatecalifragilisticexpialidocious and Sugary Sweets), but I've got decent hype for all the uncut editions/remixes/reworks of old songs.

Interesting, I looked in my C88 catalog and it was there, I never read that section of the catalog before. It's right after the part that's basically a veiled warning to feminists not to criticize lolicon, and it says that some circles may not like the idea of outsiders who don't understand doujin culture buying their works. Seems like a legit warning I guess. At some point I'll go through my catalogs and figure out what year it was added, I bet it was in response to some happening like Rapelay.

That said, I've been going to Comike for 10 years and I've never heard of anything like that before. You should be fine.

Some of them will indicate via their homepage/twitter/whatever that some/all of their goods will be available at some stores, and in some cases their stuff may be available at one specific chain. You can of course find stuff in second-hand shops like Mandarake, Lashinban, etc, but you'll be forced to pay a heavy premium depending on the item. For example, it isn't unheard of to see a book that was available at the event for ¥3,000 going for ¥30,000 at stores the very next day. Prices tend to drop off quickly in the following months/year, but there are other cases where an item may see a temporary spike in value in the week or so immediately following Comiket.

If you're talking about dakis and other goods that sold out quickly or were very limited in stock then you may end up paying even more. A lot of circles tend to sell out of their "extra" stuff much more quickly than their core books since they tend to stock those extras way below their book quantities. This is where the balancing act really comes into play in terms of deciding which circles to hit and in what order.

If you go to one circle first then you do so knowing you may very well miss out on the opportunity to get another circle's extra items that you will never see for sale anywhere else outside of random online auctions. In some cases you have to decide if it is more efficient to just skip the 2 hour line for some special item and instead hit up a few other circles with shorter lines. You will have to resort to paying a premium to get the item afterwards from the circle you skipped, but you may end up saving more in the long run since you were able to get your hands on the other items at the event price. It really just comes down to what you really prioritize and value most, and what you're willing to pay for some of these items.

If you can hook up with some other people that are going with you then you can see where your interests overlap, and split up some of your efforts to ensure everybody gets more of what they want without wasting time in the same lines.

Does anyone want to go together? I'm not good with being alone and I'd be more at ease with someone or a group. I don't really want to ask at the saw. It'll be my first time to comiket though I did at least go to Reitaisai a few years ago.
>>
>>14494192
Since most of your time there will be just standing in a long line, you can simply converse with people in front and behind you.
>>
>>14494195
I don't think he speaks Japanese, Anon.
>>
>>14494200
Then why attend Comiket?

Okay, I guess I'm being jerkish. My Japanese speaking ability isn't perfect either, but I'd at least be able to hold a conversation.
>>
>>14494192
I can offer some help/information for you but having you basically follow me around for three days at comiket would get really weird. You'd also probably get bored just tagging along as I go from one line to another.
>>
>>14494221
I could maybe just follow you for the first day or something. Shoot me a mail: [email protected]
>>
>>14494300
Am I the only one who thinks this would be weird? Comike is an immensely personal experience. Co-op buying is one thing, but having someone follow you the whole time would be kind of like having someone watch you masturbate.

I'm curious what a /jp/ meetup is like. Where at Comiket would it be? I've been alone here in Japan ever since I started working here.
>>
>>14493994
Oh shit, I didn't even see that Ham is gonna be releasing an album for this Comiket. Shame it's just a collection album but that's okay. I definitely want this as well.
>>
>>14494668
The meetup is 3pm by the Big Saw each day. Everyone gathers and then generally goes to Akiba to hit the arcades/get drunk and compare loot.
>>
>>14495781
Comiket ends at 3pm?
>>
>>14494678
No Re*Collection isn't a collection album but a brand new one.

You're thinking of Re*Circulation where they compiled all their works from the 4 previous Remember* albums. But yeah I'm look incredibly forward to it, Ham is one of the most consistent composers for quality and there is hardly anyone else with a similar sound.
>>
Since 2010 these meetups always seem maximum kimoi. Do you need to go to comiket all day and then continue the memery by going to Akiba? Go hang out somewhere else.

Any Canadians with shipping experience?
Do customs search only packages or envelopes too? There's some risque stuff I really want to bring back and I'm sure I can fit it inside a 9x12 envelope. It's my first time going to Comiket and I don't want to go to jail
>>
>>14496114
You say search packages and envelopes but then say you want to bring back items.

Are you shipping them to yourself or are you bringing them back in your luggage?
>>

No, but they said they are going to drink and go to arcades, you can do that outside of Akihabara.

Particularly since the meetup people aren't all tourists, they should know of other places.

Eigo Sensei detected.
>>
>>14496146
I've been selected twice at random to get checked at Canadian airports before so there's no way I'm risking that. I know that packages in Canada get randomly searched, but I don't think envelopes do. I'm hoping they don't so I can bring books back in a 9x12
>>
>>14496257
>Eigo Sensei detected

I wish.
>>
>>14496298
I go back and forth between here and Canada kind of often and have never been selected. You seem unlucky.

But again you said there's some stuff you want to "bring" back, do you mean mail them in envelopes to yourself or bring them back in your luggage but inside envelopes?

Not sure either way.
>>
How rude is it to go to a seller and browse through their offerings? Some people have literally no previews anywhere and I don't want to buy stuff without checking it first.
>>
>>14495881
It's til 4 pm actually but by 3 pm most places have either sold out or given up and started packing up.

>>14496257
It's not always in Akiba, it's just that Akiba is an obvious choice. Often times someoe wants to make a run to the doujin shops to get something they missed, or some of the Anons in the group who are tourists want to see Akiba in particular.

>>14496368
Fine as long as there isn't a line.
>>
>>14496353
I get probably get checked since I'm not white. I was thinking of mailing them back in envelopes, because I have never seen customs tear open an envelopes. Then again I could be wrong.
>>
>>14496417
When you say they check you do you mean your carry on stuff? If your checked luggage is just a bunch of clothes and some books, doesn't seem like that would look suspicious enough to warrant checking. Just put all the junk in your checked bags maybe.

>>14496407
Still, might be a nice opportunity to see some non-sadlife sights.

>>
>>14496114

>>
>>14496587
>Maybe if I hide the books in hollow textbook or something I can get it past security.
They would see it in an xray and it would look really suspicious. Honestly the safest way to bring stuff through would probably be completely unconcealed, along with some other books/magazines so it looks completely unsuspicious
>>
To the paranoid anon: it might just be easier to scan it in while you're in Japan, upload it somewhere, and toss it. It won't be the physical copy but at least you'll have something.
>>
Fuck Canada. Shitty country.
>>
>>14496643

If you think your country never opens your mail, you're not fooling anyone.

But this is to be expected after 10 years of Harper fascism; the Conservatives criminalized everything and anything since they were desperate to fill their new jails. Harper was basically Dubya with more than 2 brain cells.

"Think of the imaginary children!"
>>
>>14496602

The single most important factor bringing back stuff- never lie on your declarations. Either value, or content; after all they're just *books*. If you have to, even OVERDECLARE your import value and suck up a few dollars in duty, it lessens suspicion. The first and biggest thing they're looking for is fraud, and suspicious behavior. Declaring a low value of stuff sets off alarm bells, as do goods not normally imported from the country.
>>
>>14500036

That's easy to do, but realize if you do, you will never see the whole event. The best advice is to make a single pass through the whole site to hit the circles you want- assuming they are not sold out, as many will be by lunchtime- and then spend the last few hours browsing.
>>
>>14501217

That circle's homepage and twitter don't mention anything about having prior works for sale at C89, but you never really know. If they got a bunch of stock laying around then it isn't too much hassle to bring a few boxes of that stuff to sell, especially since CDs aren't nearly as heavy as books.

In general it is pretty random whether or not a circle will have their older stuff there. You have to monitor whatever announcements they make concerning their comiket plans, or just show up and pray.
