I guess this is as good as any to end on. TTaken along the trail of Mino Park north of Osaka, it's a nice park that ends in a scenic waterfall. Definitely a great morning activity if you're in Osaka.

I like taking pictures of manhole covers in whatever country I go to. Japan has had some of my favorite ones, but first I'll start with a few relatively boring ones.

While the firemen might represent Japan's current obsession with cute things, this last one is an entire different kind of incredibly Japanese. It's so stereotypical it hurts, but still amazingly beautiful. This was actually just about the sight one could see while standing on this very place.
Thanks for going on this journey with me. I doubt very many people pay attention to manhole covers when in a country like Japan, but it's amazing to see how much work went into them.
I wonder what archaeologists of the future might think of manhole covers of today.

Some of my best memories were in that little house. The housing agency knew we were foreigners renting out the house so they told us to bag all the trash together and they would have people sort the trash for us since recycling there is pretty complicated. They also let us rent bikes for 500 yen a month, which is abnormally cheap. The fabled Japanese hospitality.
