Why the fuck not? Are you that insecure to do it? As long it's a SFW board it's pretty safe to open 4chan in public because most people don't even know about this site.

Also, is the main charcter going to be Makoto or this Yashiro fellow?

>>
>>14378064
Yashiro probably with Makoto in the supporting cast investigating the whole thing.
>>

My only reason for doubt was the MC not having a sprite/face despite Makoto having one. Maybe that wasn't popular? Or maybe they're hiding it for now.

https://vndb.org/v7773
anyone played this before? I've just seen a cg gallery of it and thought it looked pretty damn amazing, but apparently the endings are complete shit with no conclusion so I wanted some more opinions
>>
Anyone here play the Last Cavalier trial ?
It was pretty fun. Lots of historical references and stuffs like that.
>>
>>14378162
For me endings weren't biggest problem, and they improved since agakogei anyway. For me problem was that while game positions itself as having strong focus on politics and diplomacy, what actually happens is just pile of impossible to take seriously bullshit. And it even further magnified by completely spineless protagonist, who is being abused even by his robot maid.
>>
>>14378178
I've completed it yesterday. Final scene was damn great.
Overall its shaping as very strong contender for vn of year for me, there's not even single thing I could complain about.
Some random positive things about Cavalier:
- Fighting scenes are very well-paced and give proper feel of sword 殺し合い.
- No fucking schools.
- Very deep introspection into politics of era. No "good" vs "bad" bullshit, every side has its own reasons for acting, no whitewashing.
- No retarded tsundere heroines.
- No retarded pacifism.
- No retarded cliche eroge humour.
- Takaya writing is great on every level. Its obvious that he spent tons of time studying era, up to specific details about what words were used at that time. And then he shares all that knowledge with his trademark info windows.
>>
>>14378265
It would probably a lot more entertaining if I even had some shreds of knowledge about Japan history in that era.
The final scene with Serizawa's death is pretty damn strong indeed. I still think a little more build-up to that would be great. Maybe it's just me but the emotional attachment of the MC with her was a little weak for me to be actually hurt by that scene.
>>
>>14378265
I'm glad it's shaping up to be good, Takaya varies from a being pretty damn and entertaining writer in Alicematic or Otoboku 2 or pretty boring and bland in Komorebi no Nostalgica or Semiramis
>>
>>14377000
Most likely everyone in the eroge industry at least took notice of it, but we'll see if they are brave enough for that kind of project, since its not easy for sure.

Making an amateur game with good idea isn't that hard, but when you make it full priced people will start complaining about every little thing. Also "single heroine" type games are even harder, and its not like you can add 3-4 different heroine into this kind of game either since you have to focus just one and heal her.

In short to be honest I dont think there'll be something like that, but I really would like to play / buy if anyone makes.
>>
>>14378359
>but when you make it full priced people will start complaining about every little thing.
The game is 2,000 yen isn't it? Already pretty pricey, but I don't see anyone complaning
>>
>>14378370
Well when you compare it with 9.000 yen its almost nothing, and since everyone know that its made by amateur people they dont criticise it, just look from the positive view like "well art is good and idea is good as well, they can cover the bad parts". But when it comes into full priced professional studios things change.
>>
>>14378395
It's 2000 yens for a digital only game with maybe 3 hours of content though
>>
>>14378370
Typical 2k yen nukiges from professional studios have like 50 times more of text content.
>>
>>14378422
Yes that's my point exactly, if people are willing to pay 2,000円 for what amounts to so little content, I do not think they'd be upset to pay even 4,000円 with an appropriately doubled/tripled amount of content.

If anything, I think this shows that people don't care THAT much about padding, right? That's a conversation I hear a lot - eroge scenarists add a bunch of padding so that the reader feels they get their money's worth. But, maybe the reader will be just as satisfied without the padding, if the main course is good enough.
>>
>>14378402
Yeah I dont think its worth of 2000 yen at all, as >>14378422 said typical low priced games have more content than it for sure, for example 恋姫†英雄譚 had at least 3-4 times more than this. This game only sold by art and the idea.
>>
>>14378265
>- No fucking schools.

Sold.
>>
>>14378432
This game sold only because the idea was appealing, just go to futaba and you'll see 1000+ posts threads filled with nothing but screenshot of patting the heroines
>>
>>14378442
Yes. People bought the game because they liked the content. And they're not complaining because they do not regret it, because they like the content.
>>
>>14378446
I didn't say it was a bad thing, sometime a good idea is all you need
It definitely shows what people want at least
>>
>>14378432
At least I do care about "padding". If I would have choice between dorei no seikatsu for 9000 yen and at least 1mb text, and current version even for 500 yen, I'd still pay 9000.
>>
>>14378446
But its because its the first game with this idea, when you make some more people will start comparing it with others and will not be satisfied with just idea itself.

For example if someone else makes another amateur game with the same idea now, it wouldnt sell this much for sure. Its the same logic, and when you add professional studios into this people will care about writing, events, voice acting etc too, not just idea itself.

It seems to have ended up being regarded as kind of an unhappy compromise between yuri and the "sole guy in an all-girls school" cliche, which is not really incorrect. It IS basically a yuri game about an effeminate guy instead of a girl though and if that doesn't make you want to avoid it, giving it a shot may be worth it.
Beyond that, it's rather average both in english and japanese. Never bothered with the sequel though so can't comment on that.

>>
>>14383397
Just use a Windows VM if you're stuck on Linux for legitimate reasons and not just being a hipster. Perfect compatibility, and all the hookers you want.
>>
>>14383602
>Such as?
No need to worry about viruses or spyware, no need to defragment your disk, it doesn't get slower over time and it updates itself, better resource handling therefore more responsive, quicker boot times, centralized package management so you can keep all your applications up to date, no need to reinstall every time there's a new version (and it still doesn't force to you upgrade the OS to use recent software), multiple choices for desktops (you can choose extremely fast desktops or full-featured ones, in Windows you're stuck with the default), extremely customizable (in Windows you have to hack a dll to use a custom theme, really?), no random hard disk thrashing, true multi-user/multi-seat, etc.

And those are benefits just for the regular user. If you develop or work with audio there are countless benefits too. It's objectively a better operating system, but its downfall is that it's not commercial so companies aren't interested in making software for it. Nonetheless, considering all of this saying that people use Linux because they're hipsters is retarded.

>>14383603
Wine works much faster than a VM.
>>
>>14383662
>Wine works much faster than a VM.
So? I have poverty-tier hardware but I've never had an issue running an eroge in a VM. They're mostly CPU-bound anyway, which is what VMs are good at. The compatibility tradeoff alone is worth it.

Besides, if you're worried about gaming performance, you shouldn't be using Linux anyway because the graphics drivers are utter shit.
>>
>>14383662
>It's objectively a better operating system
>objectively

No.

>but its downfall is that it's not commercial so companies aren't interested in making software for it.

That's the reason. More than half of progams on the internet aren't made for Linux. That's including eroge as well.

Wine is also better at CPU-bound processing. Compare the CPU usage. Besides modern eroge do use modern DirectX features that Wine can emulate well while VMs have trouble with or can't emulate at all.

>>14383743
So, what's your point? You asked for reasons to use Linux over Windows, and I gave you several, which means assuming people use Linux just to be a hipster is retarded.

>>
>>14383388
What's the game about? Heard its a sequel to an old game
>>
>>14384767
The protagonist is a turbonerd in the near future. One day after playing a VRish online game he finds a strange new application on his phone. Some stuff happens and he finds himself in the body of his character in front of a girl, Alpha, who created the Kokoro Restart program,(a next generation version of Kokoro Navi which is also the title of the previous game) that lets you "dive" into the internet for a limited amount of time. However, using it requires coins that are made by talking and interacting with people of the opposite sex. Alpha also tells him that he has nine days to demonstrate what true love is, or he will no longer be able to use Kokoro Restart.

It's a moege through and through make no mistake about that, but the pacing, humor, and just how the text itself flowed hit all the right spots for me. The voice cast is pretty solid too and more or less the reason I downloaded it in the first place.

It is also faster in almost every point than Windows. Kernel dev here. Syscall in Linux can be ten, a hundred, or a thousand time faster than the same syscall on Windows. It means opening a file, reading/writing from a file, getting all the files of a directory, modsetting, memory allocation, etc. They are a blast on Linux. Linux is very heavily optimized. The only downside is the lack of good graphical driver, but in all other test Linux explodes Windows.

The numerous Windows kernel have some of the worst performance I have ever seen. IIRC, when Valve ported portal on Linux, they were surprised to get better performance without optimization than a 3 years optimized Windows build.

It's a sorry thing that a lot of people are expecting Windows performance of all computers nowadays. I have seen people expecting the listing of the files in a directory to take ten seconds "because it was a big directory and that's normal, you know?". Also Windows is biodegradable, and people expect O.S to be biodegradable because 'it's normal that it isn't as fast as when I installed it because it was six month ago, you know, and O.S performance degrades with time".

Windows is the bane of every computer scientist existence. It's an abomination. It shouldn't exist. Please use a good O.S, or at least acknowledge that you are using an abomination of an O.S.

>in all other test Linux explodes Windows.
Except power management, which is completely laughable compared to Windows. My laptop gets half the battery life when running Ubuntu compared to Windows 8.1. Between that, the graphics driver situation, and compatibility with my powerpoint porn, Linux is worthless as far as I'm concerned.

If you're actually a kernel dev, tell whoever is in charge of power management to fix their shit if they want Linux to be taken seriously among people without beards.
>>
>>14386471
Power management is very driver centric. It is generally tied to the bad (graphic) driver situation, as it is the job of the driver to manage the P and C states. Honestly we are doing our best, but a very good number of things can go wrong. We need to get it perfectly, often without help from the constructor. This isn't easy.

Half the battery life means there is something seriously wrong with your installation though. What is your cpu and graphic card? Do you have any exotic hardware? Did you try to properly configure the power management in Ubuntu's control panel? Do the ACPI stack properly works?
>>
>>14386425
> Please use a good O.S
Quality of OS is determined solely by its applications. OS itself is useless to user because it's lust a layer above hardware to support applications. So your talk about its insides just the same as claiming quality of smart phone based on pretty color. Yes, color is kinda cool, but utterly useless. Such mentality only shows low IQ level, nothing more.
>>
Windows 10 along with TPM and IME are going to make it very hard or even impossible to pirate in the future. Say goodbye to your eroge.
>>
>>14386519
>So your talk about its insides just the same as claiming quality of smart phone based on pretty color

No, it is just the same as claiming the quality of a smart phone is based on what is inside the smart phone, its hardware. Which is perfectly rational. The hardware limits the software, after all.

You seem to be salty and relatively speaking, not very bright.
>>
>>14386576
> No, it is just the same as claiming the quality of a smart phone is based on what is inside the smart phone, its hardware. Which is perfectly rational.
No. Hardware is important to phone always without exceptions because software is always there. On the other hand OS is useless without applications, so its insides just as useless as color of phone. OS itself will start to matter only after complete application parity which doesn't exist.
>>
>>14386513
Drastically reduced battery life was a recurring problem on three different laptops I tried several different types of Linux on over the years, so I'd say it's safe to assume it's a Linux problem and not a problem with my installations (which were just using the defaults anyway). No exotic hardware, whatever that means, just average laptops. I'm not really interested in digging further into it than that, because I already have an OS that works perfectly well and I'd rather spend my time playing eroge.

The idea of a free OS is neat, but if it's that much worse there's no point. Whether your job is easy or not doesn't concern me, frankly.
>>
>>14383352
Do you really have to say the same shit every single time it gets mentioned?
You're probably the same guy who cries about harukuru having the porn wall every time it gets mentioned.
>>
>>14386519
That's like saying there's no such thing as a quality of the car and it all depends on the driver, I'm pretty sure a Lada doesn't have the same engine power, build quality, durability and handling than a Ferrari. Same thing with the VHS and Betamax again, Betamax had much fewer movies recorded on it, but there were people who went over the pain of getting the Betamax to get the superior quality.

>>14386614
I thought we were talking the quality of the OS and not its "usefulness". Its usefulness is a subjective thing depending on the use you give to your computer and what you want and need from it. You're changing your argument in the middle of the conversation.

>>14386471
True. But after ignoring the arguments given to you you're cherrypicking an issue that hasn't much to do with the OS itself, even. Let me remind you that Linux devs are completely alone. They don't get documentation (see nVidia's treatment of Linux devs) and they have to reverse engineer all hardware to make drivers for it, while Microsoft has to just throw some money at manufacturers and they'll come up with working drivers the next day. The overall power consumption of your machine depend on the power management of the driver of every single piece of hardware in your computer. This cherrypicking isn't fair, and considering this unfair situation the work of Linux devs is honestly amazing. Call me when Microsoft start making all the drivers themselves, without hardware documentation, nor help from the manufacturers, so we can have a comparison.

>graphics driver situation
The nVidia drivers are great. And eroge work even with the open source drivers, and literally all the drivers are available are more than enough for eroge. I don't see why this is a concern to you. People play recent Steam games just fine, too.

>The idea of a free OS
We haven't brought up the freedom argument, we're solely talking about technical superiority. We can make the same argument for any other modern Unix-like OS like OS X or the BSDs. It doesn't have to be Linux, just replace the word "Linux" for any of these OSes and it still applies.

>because I already have an OS that works perfectly well and I'd rather spend my time playing eroge
I understand that. That's why I previously said we aren't forcing you to use Linux. I sometimes work with video editing and I have to periodically boot Windows to use some tools so I understand what you're saying. But we have to acknowledge that Windows is an inferior and clunky OS that starts shitting itself after a year and if the same software that I needed were available on both OSes I would boot Linux every time, no contest. All recent eroge work just fine for me under Wine, though.

I remember a post of a Microsoft employee saying how shitty the code base and development process and environment were, where technical improvements were not encouraged and even looked at with disdain. You can't make something good under this environment, no matter how good of an engineer you are.

Anyway we're shitting up the thread at this point. This whole thing started when you implied that people gave Linux a try just to be a hipster. As long as you understand that's not the case then it's fine.
>>
>>14388506
>that's not the case

"For hipster" and "edgy" are mostly code words for "I don't like it because I don't like it" nowadays.
>>
>>14388264
>drivers don't have anything to do with the OS
Okay, whatever you say. Regardless, it's a problem that Linux has that makes it a tough sell for laptop users. I don't care how "unfair" the situation is, only results.

And I play more than just eroge, so yes, the poor 3D performance of Linux is a concern to me.

>>14388506
>you implied that people gave Linux a try just to be a hipster
That wasn't me. I simply took issue with your categorical assertion that Windows performance is "inferior" when by several important performance metrics it beats Linux hands down. As long as you understand that's the case then it's fine.

But I agree, this is very off-topic so this is my last post on the subject.

It avoids the issue of America pushing for the reform though, but that would be too dense of a subject to include.

I noticed. Must be rather creepy to run into the same guy on a near daily basis while you're at school, After school, at work or just hanging around in town.

I will give credit where it's due at least some of the time they provide some decent excuses, like living in the same apartment building or the whole teacher/student pairing.

I'm not blaming him, I'm asking why would he get another writer to ruin his work. I mean beside the first chapter (which he wrote a LONG time ago) and Makoto's route(which is actually decent), Sakura no Uta is a masterpiece. It just boggles my mind how he approved the route in the first place.

Still haven't gotten around to properly playing Sakura no Uta. I played through the first chapter some time ago, but so far it hasn't really absorbed me and hearing that the next chapter I'm about to start is supposedly the shittiest part of the game is demotivating me from playing it further.
