tfw Higurashi is LITERALLY older than /jp/ yet you realize a whole new generation of edgy "otaku" "hikkikomori" dormnorms are now enjoying it for the first time on Steam while voicechatting with their dudebros
>>
Humbly asking to not turn this thread into shit.

Btw waiting for the other anons who helped patching the voices and graphics back when EP1 was out. I'm the repository/organization owner, so I hope we can start patching the second episode soon.
>>
Partial voice patch uploaded here: https://mega.nz/#F!SRt1DTKI!0vSWMtBLaa2VO0bDgfzb7A for whoever wants to finish it.

Same deal as last time. This adds about 7000 voiced lines, the rest need to be filled in manually. Requires the s02, s19, and s20 folders this time.
>>

I will start working on the files, but I still don't have the game. Hoping to see the same anons helping just like the first episode.

That's cool, but it's hard to care when Higurashi Sui exists. It contains pretty much every arc and is fully voiced.

Also it's becoming hilarious how many different Higurashi versions with different art are out there now.

For the content of the future release(s), will be like the first episode with the fixed night backgrounds, the color palettes for the sprites, the sunset mode, the cgs, and new sprites added.

That will include Tomita's and Okamura's for example. Chie in curry mode as well.

The updated MG sprites mod will have a separate download like for the first ep. Didnd't begin working on it yet. I think I'll do it after I'm fully done with the ps3 mod, after that I'll just have to set the Steam sprites in it anyway.

Talking about them, Steam Shion's is pretty nice so I don't think I'll have to change anything about it. Though I'll still check if they properly adapted the expressions considering they managed to fuck that up for several of them in ep1.

When you mean "new Sui stuff" you're talking about the graphical content of it or the extra arcs? The latter obviously aren't.

>>14351346
You're totally wrong.
First, we're getting a proper translation for the serie.
Secondly, the new software is league better than the one they were using and Onscripter, because they made it mod friendly. The voices and everything can be easily added. It also allows to set the game to wide screen and in whatever resolution you want, while it was limited to 480p before.

This new release is totally worth it, even more combined with the recent Ps3 assets.

What isn't wrong with Steam, is the real question.

>wordfilters links they don't like in their chats
>Valve takes a huge cut on all games that benefit them more than the developers

Now, to pick out the lies/bullshit.

>injects DRM into all your games
Not all Steam games even make use of the DRM, which is entirely up to the developer/publisher by the way.

>tracks your internet history to make sure you don't hack
/g/-tier tinfoil hattery. No evidence whatsoever.

>Valve takes a huge cut on all games that benefit them more than the developers
The cut is somewhere in the 15-30% range, which is far less than the combined costs of physical distribution, especially if you consider the game still costs just as much.

>games are all digital that you can't back up, so byebye games if something happens to your account
If you're not an idiot, you can easily recover a hijacked account. The only problem is Steam Support, which can take ages to respond to a ticket.

>the community is garbage and greenlight was one of the worst things to happen to Steam, enjoy your influx of indie shovelware
All communities are inherently garbage, non-argument. Most of the shovelware released on Steam lately didn't even go through Greenlight, actually.

>lack of actual quality games, and lack of Japanese games since Japan isn't really into the PC gaming scene, most Japanese ports are trash as well
Mostly an opinion of yours, Steam's library is vast. Japanese games are starting to appear in larger quantity as well, and not just shitty cookie cutter VNs.

I don't support Valve's business practices by any means, but you could try to be less of an idiot sperg, senpai.

Read about it, it's not looking at your browser history but Valve does not deny looking for DNS requests which is an indicator of which sites you visit. Valve anticheat do track programs loaded in memory and look for cheating/hack programs for botting etc and they supposedly added that DNS checking for that. It is still fucked up no matter what.

Was Kira shit? It was, right?
Also why/how was Hanyuu in spirit form during Rei?
>>
>>14430509
Kira was fucking great. Probably the best thing DEEN ever did. The only people who think Kira is shit are people who only watched the anime and bitch that the horror aspect was no longer there, when Higurashi was mainly a SoL with things going to shit.

>why was Hanyuu is spirit form during Rei
In ep 8, Hanyuu was able to put a Hanyuu piece the same way Bernkastel was able to put her own piece (Erika) on the board.
Although Hanyuu literally put herself in the world, Bernkastel put a literal self insert in a literary form by way of a mary sue.

Hanyuu was being both physical and in a spirit form in Rei.

> Kira was fucking great.

This. The opening felt a bit too forced and I really didn't like it. It's still interesting to note it's the only one that includes all the adult characters (besides Takano in Kai and Rika's parents in Rei).
But otherwise?
Episode 1 adapted a ministory of the VN and was pretty damn hilarious. A bit of lewd once doesn't hurt. Also, SOULS BROTHERS.
Episode 2 was a fucking great parody of mahou shoujos.
Episode 3 focused more on the romance part and it was really nice how they put in it secondary characters like Teppei or Oryo. Though adding Shion in the whole thing felt a bit forced and NTRish toward Satoshi.
I don't know what I expected from episode 4, wasn't much of a fan, but it wasn't bad either. Wished they focused a bit on Hanyu's mature side.

The episodes had tons of references toward the serie, and both the character designs and animations were top notch. I don't know what hapened to DEEN but they did a damn fine job in the OAVs of Higurashi compared to the 2 seasons.

Everything except maybe the OP was fucking great. The OP is a bit forced but meh. Plus it was produced by Ryukishi (the ED too, as well as the music) which is probably why DEEN accepted to make Kira, since Ryukishi paid a decent chunk of it.

Ep 1 was hilariously fanservice-y but in a good way. A lot of people complained that watching Rika wash the window made them completely uncomfortable and I understand since I also felt like shit. Watching a character you like being sexualized like that felt weird but whatever.
The greatness of ep 1 is that it shows complete fanservice then, in the typical Ryukishi fashion, he offers fanservice to the women as well by the girls going full fudoshi.

Ep 2 was a great parody of mahou shoujo, like you said but the genius is that Ryukishi knew that Rika has the same voice as Nahona and used that as a joke. And Satoko's seyiuu used to be in Sailor moon which is also funny. The fact that their special attack is 07th Explosion is always funny. I just wish there was a mahojou series of that, I'd watch it.
Ep 3 might have been forced, like you say, but it does answer the question as to why K1 doesn't go for his harem. I found it hilarous, especially Rika and Satoko just not giving a shit and making everyone uncomfortable just to fuck with everyone.
Ep 4 was cute as fuck and possibly the best way to end Higurashi on. The contrast between pure Rika and older Rika was hearthbreaking for me and cute at the same time.

What's great about Kira is that the anime of Higurashi is mostly meh to shit. DEEN missed out on a lot of what made Higurashi good. They removed too much but this time around, they got everything right. If you only watch Kira after reading Higurashi, you'd swear it was simply extended stories intended for the VN. A great example is Chie-sensei. She barely gets any focus on her curry obsession in the original anime. She gets some focus in Rei but it's completely joked upon in Kira. A person watching the anime wouldn't have cared or noticed but a person who read the VN would laugh at it.

The anime should be avoided but Rei and Kira are must watches for anyone who loved Higurashi.
>>
>>14437397
Actually, fuck it, even the OP was great. All of the Higurashi OP are great and set the mood for the current mood of the season.
The first one is mysterious and creepy.
The second is sadness and struggle.
The third i brooding sadness and then becomes optimistic.
And the last one is simply happy-lucky-yes-yes-yes.

It's all good.

There's a certain charm in reading something in a different language after having read it in your native language. "A different language is a different vision of life". If you can read/speak a language, then you have a different way of analyzing and interpreting the world for a speaker of another language. Even if two very similar languages such Polish and Ukrainian, which are to some extent mutually intelligible (at least for me), are ultimately two different worlds, two different mentalities to taste. What I am trying to say is that it is a very good way to relive the experience again, a way to feel the adventure fresh and new as if it were the first time, like hearing your favorite songs being sung by someone else. A beautiful experience (sometimes).
>>14454489

>There still isn't a good reason to give money to MG

I can understand why you're mad, but I can't feel what you feel because that's how the world works. Why should they have money, when it's not them that did the hard work? That's the way it's been and how it always will be. Nothing we can do to make it different. This world is full of all kinds of leeches, seeking to enrich themselves at the expense of someone else's work, and that's fine. They never going to disappear, it's not my money and we're all some kind of bloodsuckers in one way or another so meh.
It really doesn't matter how those hungry dogs get money for their food. Ryukishi is not an idiot, he's a very funny and brilliant writer, and he's not going to die from starving. I'm sure that the good old man is pretty comfy right now.

Then why are people posting about it when it doesn't really matter, reddit?

>>14462928

Yeah, not like the Steam version have new sprites, asking if there are CGs as well isn't crazy.

Yes, we know your a lolicon, Gura. Now fuck off.

>>14463748
Why would they add them? Sprites are a different matter because that's more or less all they added side from the new translation.
>>
>>14463732
Do you have the rest of what you did for >>14462928 ?
I only saved the one for Rika and the archives are gone.

Wouldn't mind seeing more Rika with large hips.
>>
>>14463910
That's some old stuff. Checked and doesn't seems like I saved it.
>>
>>14463923
Fuck. Ah well. The only one that mattered was Rika but it would have been funny to have both Satoko and Rika with large hips.

At least don't make it too obvious it's you Xpearse, still butthurt Mangagamer didn't remake Satoko's towel sprites after you shouted so much about it? Or that another team continued Terraformars and that you can't put gay pics at the end of each chapters anymore?

Now, now, everyone. Let's all take a moment, chill, and refrain from childish insults.

Ryukishi loves to be lewd without being explicit.

I am pretty sure the mangagamer release omits a few tracks due to copyrights

Use
http://higurashifix.wikia.com/wiki/Tweaking_Higurashi_Wiki
To add in the lost music tracks and sound

Good if you want things closest to how Ryukishi07 originally released the games
>>
>>14474810
That's for the old release though. The Steam one keeps every original bgm.
>>
>>14474462
They removed the new music they added and kept the original music that was originally in Higurashi. I still have mixed feelings about MG's music because the SoL music was horrible but the horror music they had was pretty creepy, if horribly overused. The original Higurashi SoL music was cuter in every way while the new they replaced was horrible to the ears.

I don't quite remember this from the VN.

They changed this sound to something else though
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVay367HM3Y
Maybe the one they changed it too was just what was in the original VN, but I liked that one more.
