I'm not sure how /jp/ handles rec threads, but I was wondering how I should get into the visual novel medium. Where do I start?

Monster Girl Quest is pretty good

ebin
>>
Saya no uta, f/sn, umineko, yume miru kusuri to name a few. Just look for something interesting to you then read it
>>
Fate Stay Night, Saya no Uta, Tsukihime, Demonbane, Planetarian.

What about that one some 4chan users made? With the disabled girls.

Stay clear, you'll catch aids.
>>
How do you feel about witches?
>>

You can start pretty much anywhere. If you already watch anime/read manga, there won't really be any surprises in terms of stories and tropes and such.

There's reccomendation charts on /r/visualnovels if you're really hopeless and would go to reddit.

I think any moege/slice of life shit is beginner friendly as well as action shit.

Grisaia no Kajitsu is probably very beginner friendly and could be a good introduction to visual novel medium.

Just keep in mind that visual novels are a lot longer and more text heavy than anime/manga and you shouldn't rush and pay attention to the text and think more. Don't just mindlessly read the words on the screen.

At the risk of being trole to death by the rest of /jp/, have a look at the visual novels available on steam for the simple factor of "it just werks".

When breaking into something new you want babby's first tier simplicity with the set-up.

witches are shit
>>
>>14340559
Higurashi then.
>>
>>14340398
OP here. I'm ambivalent towards witches.
>>
>>14340245
First of all, don't start. VNs and LNs are plain terrible.

Second there's a VN thread 24/7 here in the catalog so look it up.
No VN is deep or complicated so your only problem will be knowing Japanese for the untraslated ones, other than that just pick whatever crap looks appealing to you.

Then read Higurashi, then Umineko, and report back on your feelings about witches.

Sengoku Rance.

It's light on the reading, has addictive gameplay, full of characters and routes, very lengthy and filled to the brim with porn. The official name is Rance VII but don't even worry about the backstory since there's at least a dozen games with a bunch of remakes at this point, and you're never gonna catch the full side of it. Just take it as it comes.

Planetarian and Saya no Uta are the closest thing to modern "classics" as far as VN's are concerned, and they *are* pretty damn good reading, but are *all* reading and no gameplay. Personally, if you want something fun to set you on the right foot, I would start with Sengoku.

You can then pick from whatever genre you like the most and go from there, the medium has grown enough to the point where there's probably something for everyone, look at vndb for a refined search. The world is your cat litter.

Good luck! It's a fun rabbit hole to fall down on, but yeah, don't expect to get anything besides knee-deep without knowing moonrunes. And for christ's sake, avoid Umineko unless you're okay with small bombs, fat cousins, wacky witches, forced marriage and DESIRE.

OP don't bother with the VN general you'll just get trolled to hell. If you need more recs just start a new thread.

But the ones here should tide you for a good while anyways.

Oh, and Planetarian is on Steam and very short and very good, so you could always dip your toe on that if you're interested.

I don't think there's anything quite like Planetarian though, so don't expect the rest of your experiences to be too similar to that.

Start by learning japanese.

Wee, tiny Konata feet.

Why are "how do I get into" threads still allowed?
If you want to play vns, fucking get one and play it.

Rec threads are hardly great, but anyone actually taking the EOP meme seriously is a retard.

Kill yourself, dude. Or rather ask someone do help you with it since you're probably too retarded to do it yourself.
