I find it funny that Gen is surprised with people sympathizing with the characters when the whole VN is seemingly setup to make the reader do so.
Neither Fuminori or Saya's actions are justifiable. Regardless of whether of Fuminori was shallow in his views, he was certainly selfish with his willingness to kill others and end the world in order to be with Saya. That being said, having meat vision sounds pretty shitty.
Saya also went along with and encouraged Fuminori the more the story progressed. The ending where she gives birth says something her gaining human traits (though I guess not sympathy) which lead her to be lonely. Of course you could just argue that it was instinct to help her species survive but then that also adds a layer of sympathy if she was just acting on instinct. So, is it really that unreasonable, conceited, or selfish for people to be rooting for or like them as characters?
