Seems like the price is too good to be true. Are there bootleg DDs?
>>
>>14183726
No there aren't

For a head with no eyes/wig/body, that might be a normal price for someone's first few attempts and doing custom faceups.
>>
>>14183724
I paid around $115 USD for my girl's head, and it came with eyes.

Not worth it, the price is way too high for what you get.

The make up quality is subpar, you can probably do a better job doing it yourself for much cheaper.
>>

>you can probably do a better job doing it yourself for much cheaper.
if they don't have experience painting 3D things, or anything all, that's really not true. it'll take a big investment of time, and a somewhat hefty investment of money to get the skills and materials.

also i think calling the makeup subpar is harsh. it is a little bit expensive, but she's pretty.

a DDH is about 50 bucks, and all the other painting materials (sanding tools, knives, brushes, paints, pastels, sealant, glue) can easily go over 50. You might be able to do better yourself, but if you don't have any tools on hand, 100 dollars for a finished head seems like a pretty good price.
>>
>>14183976
>>14184024
>>14185673
An alternative is to buy the blank head for $50 and spend the extra $50 you have on a custom faceup from an artist of your choice. $50 is usually the average price for the high tier artists. You don't have to get that particular finished head, but I would not recommend trying to do it yourself to save money.

>>
>>14187032
That one's unbelievably bad. How could anybody think using a vibrant blue like that would look good?
>>
>>14187078
Most people suck at faceups. Talent and practice are what makes people good. Lack of the aforementioned doesn't stop people from trying and posting their dolls expecting to get compliments.
>>

>>14187032
Are you guys just lazy and think that buying a poorly pre-painted head?

>Talent
Talent doesn't exist.

Also instead of paying someone else to do make up on your doll. Having your own "touch" to it makes your girls MORE important to you and creates an intense bond with you.

It's a way better feeling than hiring an egocentric hack to do it for you. I've started painting my own 2 girls myself and I'd like to say I'm close to professional at this point.
Just my two cents.

Wow this thread went downhill fast, all because some anon tried to cheap out on buying a head.

Pic related is me cheaping out on buying a completed doll, only I went the DIY route, and it ended up being actually not that cheap. (but it was fun)

Don't worry about only one outfit. If you only post one photo, no one will ever have to know that's her only set of clothes. Just make sure to brush her hair before your photo shoot. I think a lot can be forgiven if your girl at least looks clean and tidy.

This is why you go to someone with a portfolio who does this professionally. What shithole did that head come from? Let's pray for it.

>>14187983
I don't consider it lazy. I know my skills and I also know what I'm bad at. I'm great at sewing and bad at painting, so of course I would pay for a skilled faceup artist to paint a head for me instead of wasting the time and money to learn how to paint a doll and how to do it well.
>>
>>14190108
I don't think it's a waste of time or money to learn something new, especially for a hobby. Of course, everyone has different comfort levels and limits, so I do respect your choice as well. That is a very pretty head.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but for an Obitsu head, can you use eyes that aren't specifically for an Obitsu?

I'm looking for 12mm anime-style eyes (for a 25cm doll) and wanted to make sure before I bought anything that it would be compatible.

If you're ordering from the international site that's why. You need to order from the Japan web shop.
>>
is it worth it to get something that is 1/12, or is it better to just wait till you can afford a 1/3?
>>
>>14214522
If you really like 1/12's, of course it's worth it. If you feel like it would only be a substitute for a 1/3, though, maybe you should wait.
>>
>>14214522
That's a big difference in size. It depends on which one you really want. Like the other anon said, if you really want a 1/3, better to put that $100 towards a larger doll.

However, if you're totally new to BJDs and don't want to invest in a large doll at first, there are plenty of companies with 1/4 size dolls that are very reasonably priced (in the $200-300 range).

Shit I thought I was in /toy/ for a sec. My previous post was written for someone interested in resin dolls.

If you want an anime-style doll, getting a 1/12 or 1/6 can serve as a good introductory doll if you are unsure if you like them. If you have your heart set on a DD or Smartdoll, better to just save for that.

Polite sage for my morning fuckup.

Well, here's my first attempt at using a flat iron to straighten a wig. It's not perfect, but I'll do better in the future. I had problems in the first few minutes, though. I melted a part of the wig and then burned my finger a little bit.

are flat irons supposed to just keep heating up well after they've hit the set temperature, or is mine shitty? I just juggled the on/off switch and didn't have any mishaps after that, and it was a free wig anyway. Now I just have a good reason to learn how to trim wigs.

You did a good job, anon. A good flat-iron should stay at the set temp. However, with my own flat iron, I find the lowest temp setting (300) excessively hot for heat-resistant wigs - not that it damages the wigs but I'd rather not take any chances on a $30 wig (plus $20 shipping) so I use the minimum heat required. So I do exactly what you did. I turn the flat iron on and off while styling to make sure it's not hotter than it needs to be.

>Now I just have a good reason to learn how to trim wigs.

Most important things I've learned:

1) Use sharp scissors
2) Hold the scissors near-vertically (not horizontally). This will give you that wispy anime-hair look rather than a blunt cut that looks like a 3 year old trimmed her barbie's hair
3) Trim A VERY TINY amount at a time. Step back. Take a look. Trim a tiny bit more. Let the style chill for a day or two so you have time to see where any flaws might be. Then repeat until you have what you like

I finally reached the point where I did a major styling of one of my favorite wigs (chopped almost 3'' off of it, and it was curly too) and I'm really, really happy with it.

Finally, after over a month of having her, my girl will have something to wear on her legs besides undergarments and a skirt that's way too big. My TTYA order finally came in and I'm going to pick it up this evening. Now if I could just manage to fix her bangs properly, that'd be great.

God wouldn't give too much of a shit considering the number of messed up and harmful things in our wonderful world. Of course, that's just my guess since I certainly don't know what god would say. Do you know what god would say, anon? You seem very confident.

But never mind god. What I say is that I make my money selling shit on ebay since normal businesses rejected me during my job hunt after college. Just an awkward little guy who stutters too much that no one wants to hire. But I rolled with it. Up until this point I've sold over 10 million USD worth of merchandise online already. Hilariously enough some of the companies that rejected me years ago have closed down during the economy down turn from years ago. I cackle like a hyena every time I drive past those empty office buildings. So I don't know about god, but I say, fuck it, if I want to buy a $600 dress for a tiny plastic girl and put her in a fancy glass cabinet and dote on her once in a while, that's my money and my business.

>wig mist
When she's tangled or has flyaways, spray mist while holding a few inches away from wig. Don't need to soak it, just a light spray is enough for most. It helps detangle and smooth the fibers.
>oil
Similar purpose as mist, but in a different form. I like to apply it to my hands, a few drops is enough, and rub hands together to spread it and warm it a bit. Then gently comb fingers through her wig, starting at bottom and working way up. When there's barely any left on your fingers, gently smooth the top to prevent flyaway bangs. This is also great for loose curls because you can gently twist after combing and form the curls back into shape.
>water wax
This is for actual styling, works best on bangs, antennae curls, and tips of ponytails. Spread a small bit onto your finger tips and smooth/shape areas needed. Its water based, so if its too thick you can dip your coated fingers into warm water and then re-spread it across fingers to mix it in. Its also easy to wash out this way.

If used often, you may end up with a buildup (especially the wax and oil) so you may need to wash the wigs at that point. If its a regular wig with no attached parts (Sabers bun, for example) you can wash it in warm water using either gentle dish soap or a proper wig shampoo that some beauty supplies and wig shops have. Rinse well with warm-to-cool water, spritz with the wig spray, gently detangle with a wide tooth comb, and allow to air dry with a balled up paper towel in the cap to keep its shape.
>>
>>14258327
<dish soap
I meant laundry detergent. Gentler on it. You can also use liquid fabric softener as a wig conditioner, but use very very diluted or your doll will be kind of greasy and meadow fresh scent for months.

If we're getting technical she's on a Parabox 40cm body. Believe it or not the only major difference between the Parabox 40 and Obitsu 50 is about 10cm of height; the internal ball joints are the same, just less distance between them.

Well she is my favourite and until Kanojo came along the rarest so she always got special attention. Her original body had some issues which brought about a decision to replace it. If I have enough satellite coverage to post tomorrow I'll take a photo of her with Kanojonee-chan. At the moment it takes about 20 attempts to keep a connection the whole way through the posting process.

Prevent staining
I thought i would be safe to put on stockings on to see how it looks and take it off right after, but it stained the thigh a little. i literally put it on and looked at it for 5 sec and tool it off
>>
>>14277027
I certainly wouldn't.

>>14277114
Try washing dark clothes in a lingerie bag in your washer using a program for delicates. I've had next to no problems since I started doing this. There's a guide over at mfc somewhere.
>>
>>14277114
maybe it would help a little bit with staining, but you'll still get stains. and then when you get rid of those stains you'd just have to spray it again, so i'm not sure that's worth it. also you can't just use any topcoat on DDs but you probably know that.

did you test the stockings before you put them on? i check to see if clothes get any dye on my hands, then if i don't see any then i'll rub it on the bottom of my doll's foot a little. if dye comes off with either of those checks you should soak it in water for a bit.

Damn, thanks for the heads up on the deal. No suggestions, sorry, but cute pics I can do.

Not to be mean but that head rotation on that neck looks painful.

ok, I put all my dark clothing in half vinegar & half water mix and left it in there for a few hours. I rinsed it and now its in water & detergent mix

plain water is all you need, actually.

We'll try to do better next time, anon.

Well, I thought it looked good. Like a girl trying to get an angle in a mirror.
>>
>>14280128
it did look a little unnatural. From an artistic perspective, rotations like that should follow through more with the rest of the body as well. Rarely do body parts move and rotate on their own.

this is too cute, the outfit and the pose.

anybody know if i can buy spats/compression shorts somewhere?

I feel bad now, but I figured if you're new to photographing your girl it'd be better to say. That aside, she's absolutely lovely.
>>14280354
Yup, exactly this.

Have another!

Don't, I do welcome constructive criticism, I was mostly jesting. I'm not entirely new to photography but I'm definitely still learning!

Did I do good?
This is my second faceup
Also should I put under eyelashes or does look fine without it?
>>
>>14284275
I'd rotate the image before posting it, but...looks nice. I'm not experienced in faceups but I'm excited to see it more finished (assuming it isn't). I wouldn't add eyelashes but that's my personal taste.
>>
>>14284275
Really good for being your 2nd faceup, I'm impressed. Eyelashes are situational on DDs imo but I don't have a creative bone in my body so I can't tell how it will be in this case before seeing it.
>>
>>14284292
Sorry, I can't tell what orientation on my phone
I think im going to leave the under eyelashes off. And yes, its a wip
>>
>>14284346
It's okay, I figured it was from mobile. Sweet, good luck anon!
>>
>>14284804
Thanks, ill try my best!

For your second faceup its really good. If you ever need to earn some side money, you could offer to do faceups for /jp/.
>>
>>14285119
i'd probably want a faceup from them. i have way too much social anxiety to try to fit in with a forum like den of angels long enough to get access to the marketplace.

People like this really exist?
>>
>>14285915
All of his posts reach that level of weird, or more.

He's got maybe... $20k in dolls and all of the posts are these crappy cell phone pics of him patting them on the head and "picture stories"

This is why people dislike Danny Choo. He encourages behavior like that.

i want to save them from that creep ;_;
