Is art school necessary for getting a career in art, such as working under a big name studio for example?
Do you feel like you've gained a lot from art school, or are you just there for the degree?
Can't you just learn things taught in art school from online, books, and experience?
Discuss.
no, art school is generally a shitfest, go under schooling of some master, help him and learn from him.

>art school degrees
Lol op it is all about the portfolio
Everyone's going to be really quick to shit on art schools for x y and z reasons and they're all probably right to some degree. I'm a freshman in university RN and can confirm all of the ugly rumors are true etc etc
Here's the problem though: all art school can do is provide you with opportunities to sit down and work. The sitting down and the working is entirely of your own volition though. You see so many entitled shits leave school with no talent because they didn't work for it. Regardless of whether you're at a SUNY school or FZD all the work is still on you.
Art schools are great for minimizing the requirements youd otherwise have in life while training yourself: food, shelter, private space but most importantly DEADLINES. Deadlines are utterly invaluable to people who can't bring themselves to get shit done on work ethic alone, nobody pops out of highschool with an impeccable ethic that's bullshit.
So weigh the pros and cons OP. If you have your basic needs attended to and an unbreakable work ethic, yeah you should probably stay at home or go to a general state school. Art school is definitely bullshit and not for everything but you'd be a fucking idiot to say it doesn't have its limited merits. Judge yourself and act accordingly.
