What are some good books or videos on how to draw in Orthodox iconography style? Eastern or Oriental (pictured).
Bump
I guess just symbol draw really much and paint flat pictures.
okay so while I dont really have any resources, I spent some time drawing Icons with some guy who is icon-artist from Ukraine, so I could tell you what I've learnt. Icons are repetitive, you just draw the same concepts all over the time. You can decide about few things like colour of background, but, some must stay the same (Jesus robes must be blue and red on a specific drawing and there's no way you could do it otherwise. it must be that way). So they are very schematic. If you want to do competely new icon you must have enormous knowledge about it. Also, what I found very nice, is that every icon is equally important - it doesnt matter if a kid did it or wold famous artist- it is still portrait of god, so it is equally sainty (?) (my english is horrible). So at example icon I did has nimb made of real gold,
i know you're not going to do a religious art probably, but I think it could give an idea what is it about, if you didnt know it yet. So my tip would be - find some famous icons and try to redraw them to get its specific style (it is heavenly style of ultimate beauty, you know, people depicted on icons are more beautiful than as earthlings, so that is why they are not in realistic style) and then try to draw something on your own. If you have some other questions like how long does it take, what paint would you need and so you can ask, but you're probably going to do it digitally,so i am just rambling. good luck anon <:

bruh i did alot of icon style art
>>2321724 has it right pretty much
i can answer anything else, but like repetitive, kinda believe in what youre making and just use fine as fuck materials. youre kinda like recycling with iconograpy turning something simple like wood into looking like something really valuable "aka holy""
its part art of forging. look at dollar bills for inspiration on how to make good icons. its art noveau in a sense, advertising combined with good figurative work. its kinda what loomis preached about in all his books lol
