Stiff, because he's just standing straight. Bend that leg, bitch. Work it. Also, if he's supposed to be holding that leaning shield, lift it and make his body sag or strain with or against the weight. Right now, it's just kind of floating. Also his fingers are huge. The away facing lion faces are missing cheeks and cheekbones. The shields are way thicker than they need to be, but that's fantasy.

How do I make the lantern better?
>>
>>2592946
There are a lot of round/organic shapes in the image, so maybe you should design the lantern following that pattern?
>>
>>2592958
The gouache is really thick in that area so I'd rather not completely redo it, I was more thinking in terms of color.
>>
>>2592946
>>2593008
leave it and learn the way to fix it for your next piece.

That secret is doing sketches of areas you want to focus on on a seperate paper, trying colours and designs and choosing the best one.

Noted and thank you. I saw the arm in the upper right but for some reason every attempt I made to correct it failed and after a certain point I've found that it's best to just let those problems be and move on so the piece isn't a total bust.

But damn I didn't even notice that tiny head thing anon. Scary. I was feeling pretty good about them only to find I didn't even notice they were all critically flawed. Fuck, back to the drawing board I suppose.
>>
>>2593140
To be fair I am getting better at it though. Only two of these were taken at off angles : )
>>

I like it a lot, the rendering and colours work well imo. The only thing bothering me is the nose that reminds me of Micheal Jackson.
>>

Arm seems a bit short, but that's about it without seeing the reference.

>>2593166
Her eyes are just barely, BARELY pointing different directions. I'd say nudge the left one to the right. Also the nose and lips are so pointy it's distracting. I would flatten the hair on the top right a tiny bit as well, it sticks out further than the rest. This is all minor stuff, looks really good.

The lighting scheme is muddled, its like every part of her body is being hit from a slightly different angle.
Her collarbones are drawn two-dimensionally, rather than being part of the broader 3d form.

>>2593166
Other comments were right to emphasize the nose. Unconvincing both in its interaction with the lighting, and its anatomy. The shape of the upper lips seems a little diagrammatic rather than naturalistic.

>>2593782
Too generic.

>>2594327
You don't become good by incrementally fixing errors until there are none left. For now, start by drawing humans until you know what humans look like in two dimensions.

>>2593598
Try broadening the range of values.
I don't think your speculars are as off as that other guy was saying, rather, the uniform grey everywhere else is making them particularly jarring.

>>2593457
The eyes aren't fittings into the faces properly, which is creating a creepy mismatched effect.

Dubious neck anatomy.
The eyes seem like they're sitting on a flat plane rather than a round face.
Flower not convincingly incorporated intot the rest of the picture.
In this lighting i would expect the edges of the forms to all be a little darker. This has been only minimally done, so the whole think looks 2D.

I'm trying to show a dead knight partially submerged in water. In the water I want to have a reflection of a spooky woman. Is this possible with what I've got here or should I change direction?
>>
>>2593782
Think of something distinctive that will stand out. Give her a garment that make the silhouette more unique. Don't be afraid to use something that seems silly or unattractive at first. If you don't break the rules of what is "cool" everything that's cool will be boring as hell.
>>
>>2593883
What I do to help me see colors better is I unfocus my vision so that everything is blurry. Once all the details are gone it's easier to see what colors you're missing. Also don't be afraid to use jet black. Your background on the right side is too light and is messing up the colors you want to use for the shaded area of his face.

The original has a cooler temperature background and warm reds and oranges where as you've gone more purple and grey. Which isn't a bad color scheme but it's not the same as your reference.

I'm sure I'm beating a dead horse but those are my 2 cents. Good job though, this is mostly pretty good.
>>
>>2594668
Looks good so far and I like the idea, BUT
>sword piercing armor

Swords are for bashing, first of all, and to kill someone in that much armor would involve a knight on knight rolling around on the floor style wrestling match with the victor wedging a dagger between plates of armor.
>>
>>2594692

Good good. I've actually passively wondered for a long time why swords were used against armoured opponents so recently I did a whole bunch of research on armour and weapons and stuff and it's really interesting. Anyway, I know swords aren't for piercing armour. I'm going for a paranormal kind of vibe with this. the sword through plate is supposed to imply some sort of otherworldly force and I'm hoping the reflection of the spooky lady will be enough to imply that.

Fair enough. You could make the sword be a ghost sword or something too. Most normies wouldn't recognize the proper use or misuse of a sword anyway, so it probably doesn't matter.
>>
>>2594763
The intention isn't communicated clearly enough. It looks like a mistake. The woman won't be enough. The issue is that the sword and armour are drawn too deadpan. Give the sword some eccentricities that imply it's no ordinary sword. Maybe change the lighting scheme to something less typically medieval fantasy.

This piece is progressing very well! If I were the one person, I would intensify the light emanating from the lantern. Specifically by making the ground under it a very high value and bringing up the highlights on the tail and figure.

HELP NEEDED HERE

How do I keep perspective consistent through a drawing? I started pic related only with ink, no pencil allowed, and it's hard as fuck to think about perspective all the time, any tips? How do I Kim Jung Gi?
>>
>>2595186
Draw multi perspective boxes with ink until your dick falls off.
>>
>>2594647
You just colored it in, the shoulder socket placement (right)is a bit off, emphasize the bulge a bit more. also foreshortening.
>>
>>2594995
Your line quality is pretty shit. Also, work on the fundamentals and design, parallel lines are the best way to make your work look unappealing.
>>
>>2592806
If you could color it in a way that the geometricality of the construction shows through, making the picture look a bit art deco, it would be real cool imo

Welp, thanks for that. Gonna put more thought into the next one.
>>
>>2595244
Is it your intention to practically work in grayscale? The composition and perspective is as if someone took a photo of what's happening on a theatre stage. Or it's a screenshot from a point and click game. For foliage, you should define out a few bushes/trees and just have some sort of interesting brushwork and colors elswhere that kind of remids foliage. There is no point on focusing everywere.

Another thing, look at a similar scene in the woods by Mike Azevedo, the composition works much better here, in your painting the giant almost blends in with the forest and does nothing, just sits there near one side of the painting, also check the value structure here and the powerful light source helps pop out the important elements.
>>
>>2594979
What? What the fuck are you talking about
>>
>>2595259
Colors are kinda intentional yes, I tried adding some more saturated browns/oranges/reds to ease the overall monotony but it quickly dawned upon me that my colors are fucked.
As for the perspective and composition yep...got plenty hours to catch up on.

Good perspective, good use of foreground, mid ground, and background, overall composition though, kinda weak. Do you want to show the girl, I hope not because she's way too tiny to be the main subject. Just show off the cool china room? If so you've got way too much negative space. You could lover or raise the camera to show the room in a more extreme angle, for instance. It's also too balanced, not sure if I want to look out the window (which is not good) or at the girl.

I do want the focal point to be out the window (im trying to make something comfy where you get an idea of the setting she lives in, so i dont want her to be the focal point exactly?) I made her bigger though, you're right she did look too tiny. so like window>girl>room
I tried making the table bigger to lead the eye to her and then to the window but I'm not sure how to fill that negative space

It's looking pretty gud man. I love the shape of the face and ears, it's the perfect amount of surreal without being unreadable. I'd fix where the horn on his crown-thing is though, it seems a bit too close.
>>
>>2595700
If you can I d change the pose. Profile always looks cheap and more 2d than a little more 3/4
>>
>>2595377
Beautiful lines, colour, and symmetry. The position is a bit boring though, so remember not to do pieces like this too often if you want an exciting portfolio.
>>
>>2594995
For digital colouring remember to take into account the reflection of the armour unless it's going to be scuffed and dirty. Since it's such a basic picture of just a character, remember to use a decent amount of vibrant colours to make it interesting.

Your line work can be improved unless it was just a guide. I recommend practising by drawing two big lines, and connecting them together with smaller ones like train tracks.

The armour itself is well put together, and the pieces seem like they all fit together except for that one knee. It looks like a circle floating next to the body. I'd either put some straps on it, or make it look like it's a joint in a bigger piece of leg armour.
>>
>>2594727
I love the effect of the lines, but the upper body seems to big for the lower body. Fabric's looking good so far though.

>>
>>2596041

dude you should really try to get some value shifts going on, it can sometimes feel too 2d and flat when you don't have a clear indication of 3 dimensional form, which is done through a solid understanding of lighting and values, as well as material rendering knowledge. I like the lines though, seems like this must have taken you a long time. I personally dont have the attention span to force linework for over 30 minutes. Keep going with it would be nice to see end result. Doesn't hurt to have a little bit of perspective in there either btw.
>>
>>2596043
>Plans for the background?

And I swear to god you are full of shit.
It's very common for people to pick out small deviations in placement and proportion and magnify those, but there's no way his upper arm is that long, unless you've got a reference picture you'd like to share.

I hope it's okay to post two in one, I finished these both at the same time and it's my first time posting here, so...

One on the left is acrylic on canvas and the one on the right is colored pencil on black board. They were both the first ones I did in those mediums (excluding mini practice sheets), so I'd like some advice for getting better at them, especially with skin tones on acrylic and colored pencil in general.

Love the values in these. Would suggest softening your touch on certain drawings however- for example, the stomach/torso area of the woman in the top image, left/topmost picture looks very harsh. It's almost like she's a block of stone rather than a soft, fleshy human body.
Generally keep doing what you're doing, though; I think I've seen your other sketches on here and you're doing the right thing to improve.
