How can I practice drawing faces?
Do I simply have to use photos of faces? Or should I look for another method?
First try to understand the structure of a regular face, like what is it under the skin you see, proportions and stuff
Then looking at pictures is a good idea to avoid the "same face" in every of your drawings

I always see these types of questions and the answer is always the same. You don't need an anatomy book, tutes, etc. to improve. Find ref and draw it over and over and you'll get it eventually but expect it to be a long time with or without teaching aids. It'll take years, not months.
Sometimes I think people "draw" stuff for a few months, see minimal results and stop because they expect to be pro level after that. It takes a long while and a shit ton of work to get good at just one thing, so if you want to draw everything well sit back and call me 5+ years.

You don't need crits on studies, you need to just keep studying. What you do need is the ability to stand back and objectively look at your work once in awhile and see where it differs from the ref so you can work on whats lacking. Crits are better targeted at finished paintings. Showing someone how an eyelid folds from one particular angle when there are infinite other angles they also don't understand is useless. You need to just figure that out on your own.
A lot of getting good at art, like getting good at anything, is pushing through all the shit hours of little to no progress until you eventually start to see improvement. You just need to keep failing and drawing and slowly over a long period of time you build up little insights about the subject until when put together all those little things help you understand the big picture.

Burne Hogarth has a less simplistic approach than loomis. I've studied both and loomis is good for beginner, and then read some Hogarth if you want more advanced stuff.

Probably Loomis, I personally haven't read it it yet because I'm currently finishing Michael Hampton's book, it also talks about faces.

well loomis covers figure drawings in some of his books, but hogarth is probably much better for figures because of how well he covers anatomy.

Is it normal for it too take a long time to be able to consistently get good faces? I draw from reference and life everyday but it's very hit or miss if it turns out well. I understand it's probably one of the hardest things to draw but I feel like I am taking longer than it should.

There is still bits of symbol drawing left. Read the first few chapters of "Keys to drawing" to cure it. It's available online.
Also, use the side of pencil. Ink doesn't allow you to work with tone.

I currently got a pdf of Hogarth Anatomy books, it's pretty different, the faces are not "stylized" like I couldn't see in Loomis' book or Frank Cho's book to draw women
