I feel the colors are too bright. The mood of the game is a grittier more Berserk-like tone, so I think greyer more washed out colors, particularly on her face would work better. Thoughts?

get that dynamism in there, yo.

also a large part of the legs looking broken is that if you twist your knees inward like that, you're leading with the foot. That brings the knee in line with it. technically you can twist your foot out of alignment with the knee after that, but it's not very stable and looks hella unnatural

anyone know what i can do to make this look better? i can't seem to find a single reference for the lighting of the legs either
>>
>>2591015
Why would I keep my construction lines when I had moved on to lineart? I didn't realize until I'd finished the lineart how fucked up the legs looked which is why I'm fixing it now. I haven't deleted the layer or anything and I turned it back on when I tried to fix this but it didn't help. Other anons comment did though.

What's with people giving crummy advice like "start with a circle" or "construction lines" like that's going to help in this case?

If someone were in the coloring stages you wouldn't yell at them to keep their construction lines either would you?

Genuinely confused by this comment
>>
>>2591352
It's like doing pixel art (not a pro but I guess), if you don't zoom back you won't be able to know where things are supposed to be. Constructions lines keep you anatomy right, as long as you know how to draw anatomy

Progress.

Did a lot of the suggested fixes. Someone here mentioned something about her feet, which was also bugging me. So I changed it up some. I started on setting down contrasting values, gonna keep that up as I mass render it.

Still bothered by the tones on her face, so I'll experiment with that in a bit, but I'll be leaving it for last, after I finish the armor. Aside from that, I'm fairly satisfied with how it's coming out. I think as far as pose/anatomy and design, she's really solid. She also looks like she could very well pass off as a very pretty boy, so mission accomplished on that end too. I feel that design-wise, she really is spot on. This is what a gender-bent King Arthur WOULD look like, I feel. Fate be damned. Lol.

Fix sausage fingers. Right leg is floating in space for no reason, feet are different sizes, look at some reference for clothing folds don't just draw a random line in the middle, and come on you can make her pigeon toed without making her float en pointe' in sneakers.
>>
>>2591753

>>
>>2591408
You're missing what i'm saying:
I DID use construction lines, this is the "completed" lineart that I realized looked wonky. I zoom in and out frequently on my pictures but it wasnt until I did the lineart (which is cleaner than construction lines) that I was able to see the legs were off.

You're acting like I didn't keep my construction lines while I did the lineart or that I tossed it and did the lineart freehand?

Your advice is kind of useless because it doesn't make sense here bruh.
>>
>>2591500
I semi-agree. It's close. In some parts it looks fine to me how it is, but doing the entire picture like that is making it look fucking weird.
>>
>>2592225
I mean it's good, but Sakimichan has a lot more detail. Yours is more like the underpainting to a sakimi drawing. So if your goal is to emulate them, just keep going on it! Make it more defined and risk over-rendering it to make it shiny if you want that animu look.

But as is, as your own work? I like it. I say make the shadows deeper and add a bit more highlight to areas of the face and in the hair to make it less flat. Give more care to her sweater, at least the neck part of it (you can always fade out on the rest). Giving some fabric detail even just to the part around her neck will make this stand out too. Good luck anon
>>
>>2592297

Is Sakimichan another one of those artists that paints over photographs?
>>
>>2592335
No, sakimichan doesn't trace, she's just got a jarring hyper-active style often riddled with many proportion perspective, and anatomy issues. She does so much work so quickly because of her patreon that she never takes time to sit down to really make a good piece. Her work is nothing special but it's not all bad.
>>
>>2592335
>>2592350
What they said.

She's popular because she does shiny anime art of popular characters from anime, games, and other media. Some of her pictures look great and cute even with the mistakes (I don't believe mistakes = bad, but the fact that she doesn't try to improve past them because she doesn't need to (she rakes in the money) is what bothers me about her personally.

I like the one she did of Ariel discovering headphones and music cause it's a cute idea, but I do wish she spent more time on it.

>>
>>2592362
Sort of good idea. That's her best one.
>>
>>2592375
The Ariel one I think is the most creative one she's done using pre-existing characters and I do love the expression on her face (even if it's got that kinda uncanny feeling, just something with how she paints skin is slightly off to me. Like it's stretched too tight against the body so it doesn't form any kind of wrinkle ever.

She's like SO close to being actually amazing it kills me. If only she'd use some of that patreon money to do some new studies and get even better.

any form of critique could and would be helpful
>>
>>2592386
Lighting doesn't make too much sense. Since it's the same color as what's behind the monster it looks like he'd be back lit, which would cast him more in shadow . If it's a light surrounding them you need to make it more clear. I know it's a wip but that's how it's going so far.

Other than that, the figure's pose looks a little off, especially the right leg. Stand up, imagine you're on a monster's bigass tentacle (or whatever they're standing on) and imagine how you'd stand on it to keep your balance while fighting it, you sure as fuck wouldn't be doing a ballerina pointe toe on one foot. They'd be bracing it against the monster to stand their ground, using whatever that purple rope is to keep them grounded against it. That toe gives no stability and makes them look like they're going to get whipped off the monster in two seconds and do a pirouette on the way down.
>>
>>2592297
Thank you for the critique anon, I'll keep at it! My goal is to come as close to the appealing overall effect of sakimichan's drawings as I can without losing my personal touch.

So you need an extra step to find the new thread on a super slow board, when it's ridiculously easy to go to the catalog and find the thread?
The reason why other generals link the new threads in the old is because those threads are on a fast board.

Some times ago I did have a few good "times", like an OC drawing got around 10 reblogs and 50 likes just after I posted it, and some other fanarts, my biggest by far got 100 reblogs, and the amount of followers increased pretty quickly at that time, thought I was good. But since a few months, nothing. What are methods to get some attention? Reblog/like others? tweet random messages? Since all I post is drawings, never really stuffs about myself.

I've hit a wall and can't seem to find direction. The left two images are things I've done from scratch just trying to paint a face. The image on the right is something I painted while trying to copy a painting. I can look at a painting and easily enough just put color A in spot A until the image is done but I don't feel like I'm learning, just copying. I need help understanding a process for painting faces. Any tips or help for being stuck in limbo like this?

>>2592906
Pew pew blog >>2589852
>>
>>2594011
Background first, figure later. If you draw the figures first, you always run the risk of making the BG look like an afterthought.

You're supposed to draw a scene, and place the figure in that scene as an element. Plan your composition from start before you get to drawing.

What you could do now, is take a step back, since you have your figure and pose in mind already, and just draw an environmental piece disregarding what you've already drawn, with a similar theme.

Another option, is to acknowledge that the BG will be an afterthought, and play into that. Or, cut off the piece at around waist level, and draw a low contrast BG from there.

Now I know what's bothering me about the face. This is a 3/4th view but we're seeing too much of left side of her face. Perspective needs to be fixed. Imagine putting the features on a cube
>>
>>2594284
He just doesn't know how to draw faces period.
>>
>>2593465
I had the same thing, and I've just recently started crawling out of that limbo. I just started really studying the anatomy of the face, not just the placement of features, but the real anatomy. I had the same problem that you have of not really understanding the shapes of eyes, chins and cheeks. Try studying only features of the face, like the eyes, or the lower jaw from multiple angles. Notice that in the left two images the face (except for the nose which looks ok) is very flat. The right image has the eyes, cheeks, brows and chin protruding noticeably. I feel like you know (judging from your shading) that they should protrude, but you lack confidence and edges in your shadows. Notice how the shadow under the lips of the girl on the right has a very sharp shadow, and while you do have that shadow in your other paintings, it's very soft and light, and doesn't really show volume.

My general advice is: be confident when you're drawing from imagination, and put in some sharp shadows. If you have a blog where you post often, make some experimental paintings that you won't post there. Then you won't be afraid to mess up, and yes, you will mess up at the beginning and it will look weird. But try many things and see which things work and which don't, and that's how you'll improve.

Also I'm sure you already know this, but you should really practice drawing hair, it frames the whole face and right now it looks horrible.

Honestly it looks like you're bad at hair, not faces. The only one with decent hair is the one you reffed for, the others are just flat.

Also protip: Use a reference for everything even if you're drawing an anime punk princess with purple hair, find someone with similar hair and bone structure to what you want to work from.

Being a hobbyist does not exclude you from getting better and getting advice on how to get better.

This.

To save this drawing I'd do a more abstract backgrund since it's going to look like an afterthought regardless, or you can try opening a new file and drawing a background and try to replan your composition without the actual figure in it, just redraw the gesture. That helps me when I forget to do a background (like for some school projects that was my issue)
>>
>>2594095
For one, people are going to be reluctant to help you here because 4chan hates furries, even if some of us admit it's a good way to make money.

That being said. look at the animal you're trying to draw and humanize it, don't try to put animal features on a human. It almost always goes wrong and looks weird if you don't know what you're doing (Which you do not).

Instead look at a real cat, and draw it, then decide what you can exaggerate to be more humanline (Make the eyes larger, the head more proportionate to a human's, exaggerate the mouth.

If you're going to do cats, look at Lackadaisy for a good idea of how you can draw expressions since I find cats difficult myself more so than other animals for some reason.

There's lots of furry drawing tutorials, help with muzzles, etc if you google it. I think wikifur has some too.

No one here cares about your process unless you're posting it while looking for critiques along the way.

While it's cute, the hair doesn't really say sheep, more like "Flower creature." I.e. they look like petals not sheep fluff. The coloring is decent old manga cover coloring. The pen she's holding does not look much like a pen though, the perspective on that is kinda fucked up as is the detail (the hooking part is completely flat against the cap, that doesn't happen). And if your first defense is "that's not a pen" Then guess what, idiot, you failed at drawing whatever it's supposed to be. That's why you show your sketches here first don't finish it and post like "Ta da" like no one's going to tear it open.

Also where's the background? She just gonna float in a white space? Plan your compositions out.

if you think that looks like a pen, you really need your eyes checked. It's obviously some kind of sword.

and if you think the tufts on her head look like flower petals, i'm pretty sure you are the only one. they read as stylised feather/fluff, although I think the size transitions of the individual shapes could be smoother (on the top of the head it looks like she has an area of fluff that doesn't have the same volume as the rest)

everything is symbol drawing, you even did that architecture with symbols/abstractions

you need references just as a catapult needs ground, you're not going to do anything remotely good if you do things like that
focus on inner/out shapes, measure with simplified shapes
try understanding and seeing form there (basic geometric volumes), so you can apply on your drawing
the sticky already explains those mistakes

My personal conspiracy theory is that the internet at large distances itself from furries in order to make it scarce, and in turn make furrydom easier to monetize. Furries are willing to pay a good artist a fantastic amount of money to draw a snake lady eating a naked goat dude, and if there were more saturation of the furry community I feel like there wouldn't be that market.

That said, what this person said. If you can draw furries and well, especially furry porn, you can make yourself a decent amount of money. Furries tend to be decent clients, too- they're very particular about their characters' designs (god forbid you fuck up the placement of dick-shaped mark on their stallion's hindquarters), but they're vocal about what they want and generally good at communicating it. Draw for furries, make some money.

It's called reverse trolling. I do it all the time in loli threads on /pol/. You pretend to be against something, going out of your way to be on the opposite end pulling up statistics, articles, w/e and in turn, you make it seem all the norms who browse that board are in good company. The more you make it seem that everyone is against something then you can safeguard your interest from ever becoming 'accepted' and mainstream.

It's a little hard to explain but you get the idea since you know.

depends on what you're goin for, if it's slice-of-lifey then it wouldn't hurt, but a lot of the fun in designing stylized characters (which i feel you might be into based on what i'm seeing here) is in playing with the shapes and proportions etc.
take zootopia for example, they had a lotta fun with their character design because ultimately the writing and character development is what matters most when making them relatable
also obligatory "is there a link to more of your work?" i like what i see, it's cute

what, no, furry is relatively profitable compared to other online art markets because the norm is to have your own personal character that you want to have drawn in specific situations/scenarios as well as the fact that there are a lot of rich furries in the tech/IT industry with tons of money left over even after they buy a nice car and a $3000 dollar computer. they more or less purchase popularity by commissioning all the big names to draw whatever combination of dicks an tits they're into

study more realistic facial construction methods with those weird diagrams and anatomy whatevers while cross referencing with references of real faces at first. once you've internalized those basics you can go on to cross reference your fundamentals with anime style artists you like to deconstruct their methods.

think of a style as a language. if you learn the basics of how all language is constructed then it becomes much easier and straight forward to know what you must study to learn a new one. the basics of how art is constructed are your fundamentals.

I started painting pic related, I hope it looks a bit better than the sketch.
