how do you look at your reference when you paint? if you haven't, try extending the canvas doubly and putting the reference right smack next to it. it will be easier to focus on blocking out value and shape first this way before detail, which you've gotten lost in entirely here.

You should find the "darkest" dark and "whitest" white in the pic and keep it as a reference to compare with other areas when in doubt. The eye is easily tired and fooled when trying to figure how grey something is, especially after an hour or two.
I'll try to study the same pic tomorrow, we'll see how it goes.

The difference is there's no proper system for graduation. You don't go through lessons, get graded, and move up. You just end up getting egotists like Nosebro thinking they're qualified to graduate or demote people, or people deciding for themselves what their skill level is.
The two-tier system of "beginner" and "not beginner" is the best we have because it's usually pretty noticable when somebody lacks fundamentals, but the line is blurred significantly when you throw "intermediate" in between.
Draw Threads dont have references that all draw, or master studies that all do though.

Actually, the eyes are titled, so im unsure if its a stylistic choice. But the keystone and skull seem to be in check. The side of the head shows a brow and cheek bone outline.
I think the drawing would be solved if the eyes were closer together. The mouth and nose aligned with the face. And maybe touch up the keystone's location. Fuck the left eyebrow

I wish I had someone to beat me into drawing and not being a faggot. I get so stressed and anxiety riddled when it comes to draw. I've been dealing with this for years. I caved and got put on medication two years ago, have gone to therapists and even tried hypnosis, but nothing fixes the overwhelming stress.
There is so much to learn in drawing and coming up with some sort of game plan is hard. It's also difficult to pace myself. I get really caught up in things; whenever I get into something I spend numerous hours a day doing whatever it is, and when I'm not actively studying, I'm thinking about it. I get burnt out out a week or two.
I guess I'm just venting. I've got all the books in the world to study from and plenty of free time; I've been drawing since I was a child and have a solid grasp on things that a lot of people don't, but I still get so upset when I draw. I want to form some sort of simple daily routine for drawing but every time I try it just overwhelms me and it makes me stop.
I was thinking about printing out seven master drawings a week, one for each day, and then doing a copy, going back over my drawing to fix the errors, and then drawing it again from memory. Not sure how effective such a schedule would really be.

That is why this thread is a spit in the face to intermediate artists. You are a beginner for the first 2-4 years of serious study. If you properly gauge the time it will take by not set perimeters but quadrupling the practice only then will you see gains.

Your skin colors are really lifeless, rather than using just browns experiment with using reds, blues, and oranges in the face. If you paint traditionally at all, mixing all of your own colors (only using red yellow blue and white out of the tube), helps a ton to understand color.
Keep studying the face as well, it seems that you have an understanding of the elements of the face, but not how the eyes, mouth, and nose lay on the face together, and it shows in your rendering and makes the whole thing look flat. Your problem areas are the forehead, and chin to jaw to temple area.

The original was very stylized, so you just undid some of that and made it more realistic. Yours though does have a much better grasp of form and light and the mouth is much better. Nose is out of perspective pretty badly though.

The head is pretty small and doesn't have its place in perspective. Although old-fashioned, counting heads is what you need.

Another thing are the muscles. You obviously know them pretty well, but you don't draw them pretty well. Thing about which are flexed and which are relaxed. Don't forget to draw a layer of fat over them.
Lastly, make sure they all follow the same gesture. This can be seen on your left arm - it's straight and stiff, give it a nice organic curve.
