blogging. nobody cares what you think or what's going on with you, so blog sparingly or not at all.
just post your art and pertinent status updates, and let your followers imagine what you are like as a person on their own. you'll break their mental model of your personality by blogging. this isn't actually that big a deal, but some people might get offended or put off, and they may annoy you about it.
i can't offer advice about talking to followers face-to-face.

That's not remotely true, lots of people enjoy forming a relationship with artists they like, or the illusion of one or whatever. And people are in fact capable of genuinely caring about strangers.

People are busy and you have to give them something that only you can provide, that's why they come back.True, sometimes a few people will try to get to know you but unless you have over a million followers, a blog is pretty useless.

I think the trick is to be personable but uncontroversial. People like stories, creating a story around your art is engaging. Lots of people enjoy you explaining what sort of stuff surrounds your art.
If you're a dramaqueen or pull random unpleasant shit in, like whining about how shitty your day was, people get uncomfortable. In my own experience artists who bring in a ton of negative stuff make me uncomfortable and I tend to not follow those people, most people don't want to hear about your suicidal tendencies or your fucked up social life, but they don't mind hearing 'I saw this the other day and it was really inspiring!"

People don't like if you only post your work like a robot, although I'd prefer to do that. They feel sort of connected as they read your stuff, making them like you more.
