If we're lucky maybe they can coalesce in a containment thread rather than making different threads for every artist they want to circlejerk shitfling at.

i like her, but have never appreciated her art

How did she get so popular? Is it because what she draws is so generic, yet nostalgic, that most people can't help but look?
>>
>>2550341
Got in first, pretty much.

Now there's a slew of airbrushing copycats, but she managed to hit the sweet-spot of maximum pleb appeal and milk that sweet cash cow early on, and is now reaping her rewards due to the loyalty factor.
>>

So luck, basically, like with any famous person.

Yeah, there's the element of skill that helps, but how many skilled artists are there that can only have fever dreams about making as much money as sakimi for doing fanart?
>>
>>2550347
Don't underestimate the skill behind sensing a trend and getting in early.

There's so many quality webcomics out there nowadays, but people are sticking to some comparatively shit in comparison series to give money to. Why? Because they got in first, and that counts, whether or not it's deserved.

Sure, luck's a part of it, but sakimi wasn't flailing blindly. She was paying attention.
>>
>>2550354
Then she must've had some kind of following before she started, otherwise it would've been like throwing a bottle-message into an ocean of bottle-messages.
>>

Yep. She got the following from doing those super-saturated shiny fanart pieces that are all she does now.

She does things that are well-suited to burst popularity on content aggregation sites - stuff from series that are either big right now or have a high nostalgia factor, and pandery stuff like gender-bend series. Pretty to look at and easy to parse, process, and discard, which is ideal for the general facebook-and -reddit-era internet consumer. She's got the speed and skill to pump them out with clockwork regularity, allowing her to satisfy nostalgia-whores of all stripes and the internet's demand for a constant flow of content.

And because we live in the patreon era, she isn't restricted by copyright law that might limit her from making money off of a zillion ips that aren't her own. It's fanart pandering that gets her the popularity, and what's basically patreon money-laundering that gets her the cash from it. She's not selling her fanart, she's selling her commisions/raffles/etc, and if the customer wants fanart (which of course they do) oh well!

She's positioned herself at the nexus of a confluence of factors that allow her to pretty much print money. For that, I respect her, even if I'm not a fan of her stuff.

I despise her, but only because I am incredibly envious. Otherwise, I'm glad I could learn something from this.
