Here's a wip from a commission I finished a few days ago. I would say the final version is a favorite for me at the moment but mostly because of what I learned during the coloring phase. The drawing itself is pretty old now but I'm excited to apply the coloring techniques I've picked up to newer things. One of the best things I learned is how to properly colorize and integrate lineart and that's probably the thing I'm most eager to use.

I mean making it so it's part of the color instead of just staying a flat black outline. I unfortunately hadn't learned that yet when I finished this picture or I would've tried it out on this one. Pic related isn't exactly the same because they don't go from fully finished lineart and colorize it, they start painting over the lines with color to finalize them right off the bat but you see how in the end there aren't any really black outlines, the lineart is more a part of the final result of the picture.

Yeah I've struggled with it a long time too but finally a friend showed me something that I think might work for me. With digital art there are always a ton of different ways to do the same thing. Depending on how you like to work, it could either be better for you to start drawing the lines in color like that tutorial or do finished lines and convert them. The only way to know is trying them both. These next few months are going to be full of me experimenting with stuff like that and figuring out what finishing and polishing means for me.

Thing is that I'm at the point where my knowledge has surpassed my technical skill. So, it's always driving me to work harder. Sometimes I'll really work my ass off on a piece and then the next day I'll paint over it. It's been getting better. Just wish it didn't take me so long to make new art that I'm proud of.

How long is it taking you? I find it funny how people today, myself included, will get impatient when a finished piece doesn't come together in a couple days or a week. If you look at old masters they would spend months or years on a single piece. Sargent repainted Mme X's face like 8 times or something. And here I am throwing away pieces after a day's work on it.

Deviantart is pretty trash. I started my DA before my tumblr, last year. I have 70 followers compared to 460 on tumblr (which is still modest, I know, but it's a pretty remarkable difference to DA). I even submit to groups.
I don't know if I just 'don't get it' or if my style isn't weeaboo enough, but if my experience is average deviantart isn't worth the time investment to actually upload and submit to groups.

If you need it/feel like it, you can still take commissions from people who're satisfied with your art level enough to pay for it. No matter how far along you are, someone will like it.
Even without commissions in the meantime, if you're gathering followers, you may as well do what you can to groom them into wanting your work, so you have a ready market once you're content enough to start.

Facebook nuked its reach on free pages a few years ago, so it can be wonky. Posts in rapid succession will be seen by far fewer people than occasional posts (say, a handful throughout the day).
The most successful pages also network heavily, drawing for more successful pages in the hopes of a share and recommendation. If you can stomach it, a large swath of page administrators are kids who're into ebin ironic memes (some of those pages are into six digit likes), so pandering there will get you some solid virility.
