What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

I like the color scheme in your submission for today, elithys. But some more orange elsewhere in the image might help to unify it more, perhaps in the dragon's eyes. The electric blue stands out a bit too much among the unsaturated blues and greens of the sea and sky, so you could kill two birds with one stone. I'd also lighten the values on his head and mane a bit (or darken the values in the foreground) to help him recede, because it seems that he's supposed to be quite distant, but where the head comes out of the clouds I don't really get that feeling.
hey guise, how can I get myself to slow down when doing art? I've been drawing from imagination for so long that I just end up rushing my stuff, trying to construct forms and get into the nitty gritty without measuring or establishing proportions. I think it is back. Lava said that the beta tribunal had a low report threshold, and it was also pulling from the entirety of LAS. The current tribunal should have a higher threshold of how many times something needs to be reported to end up in the tribunal, and I believe it's only including reports on more recent submissions (after the beta ended). I think it's just that nothing other than fuckyoumang's doodles have been reported enough to make it to the tribunal. Either that or I'm lying and Lava is being lazy.

Hey.
I decided to leave because I realized LAS actually started to have the opposite effect and hinder me in reaching my goals (gamedev). I realized more than often I would feel content about myself for just putting together some 1 hour work, uploading it here and calling it done for the day, using this as an excuse to tell myself it was enough and that "I did good". But this is barely enough at all. I know to this some will want to reply "but you just need upload your work once a day, it's irrelevant to how much you draw a day". This is absolutely correct but in my case it was decided from the start I wouldn't attach anything personal to my LAS account. There are days, if not most days now, where I just really want to draw and apply what I learn to things related to my projects and not worry having to draw some forced drawing or fanart at the end of the day for LAS.
I'm truly grateful for Lava and LAS as a whole for having made me draw more. It was really great, I had never done so much in the past and, although I'm still a beginner, I feel like my skills and my mindset evolved a lot. But recently I've asked myself this question, "would I still be able to draw every day without LAS?", "It's been 4 months and a half now, if even after all this time I can't even get myself to be more productive without hand holding then there's truly no hope for me and I'll never manage to make my dreams come true in my lifetime." I learned to build a new habit, I need to learn to continue on my own now.
Sorry for tripfagging out of nowhere like that, it just didn't feel right to leave like a thief without saying a word. You're free to tell me to fuck off though, actually I'd prefer that and it'd feel more natural. I feel sad leaving but I'd rather leave now when I still like this place and everyone than quit with bitter feelings. Sorry I couldn't keep the promise, 26 anon.

Well I think it's good that you're experimenting with different things for one, that's something lots of people seem to struggle with but it really helps find new ways to do things. Like your finding out about greyscale and minimal blending at the start helps you get a better lay-in, stuff like that.
I'd suggest working differently for faces though, working from soft and then going more defined seems to be the way to go, especially with female faces. I also think your forms are more better and more consistent when you're using more square shapes to build from, like the heads in 104 or the sweet statue in 114. Prioritizing perspective and foreshortening would be a good thing since some of your better imagination stuff is figures from interesting angles or walking deeper/shallower in frame, which is great for storytelling and depth but and even better grip on perspective would help push them further.
As for what to focus on that depends on what you want to do / like doing most. Since it's early days I wouldn't worry about specialising really early on, and you should feel free to experiment and try painting, inking and sketching all different subjects. I'd take some time to flick through your inspiration folder or favourites on deviantart or whatever though and see what common looks or themes they are. I looked through mine and found I'm mostly into painterly pieces, usually fantasy, and the more dramatic wide-shot looking the better. Something like that might help you narrow in on what you like best, and then spend some time getting good at particular things within that. E.g. if you find you like detailed mechs best then you'd spend time on basic mechanics of pistons and mechs you like, as well as building up a visual library of greebles and other little things you can add onto them after.
You don't need to master everything at once remember, and having a thing you can draw ok regularly and start to create your own versions of feels pretty good.

Aimai did most of their comic on stream in a 6h session. Newfag drew his even though he's a complete beginner. The reason lava didn't has nothing to do with comic challenge being 10 pages or 8 pages. It's your choice how many panels there are on a page. It's your choice what to draw in them. Literally anyone in LAS could easily complete a comic if they chose to. It's their problem if they choose badly, either by giving up when they realize they can't make the comic look exactly the way they imagined, or by running out of time when they try to draw at much higher level than they can.

I think Stella's implying that drawing just to meet the quota instead of drawing to create or learn is harmful in the long run.
Admittedly, having a captive audience (more so for Stella than me, probably) creates a focus on new things EACH day rather than creating things, period. I get worried about working on extensive drawings because if I can't produce something new to look at each day, I'm scared I'll drive away whoever is watching me. The easy solution is to not give a shit about views, followers, or audience interest, but it's still a subconscious reaction.
Also, when hitting a shitty streak just cause or from experimenting, you get more conscious about how people will stack up your current shitty work to your best entries.

I don't think 10 pages is unreasonable. Like other anons said if you add a title page and another full page drawing then it's not a ton of work. I failed because of cowardice and believing I'd be ready if I studied just a little more. Blame the artist for failing, not the reasonable challenge

Is that relevant? I'm guessing it's regarding the comic challenge 10 pages instead of 8. I dunno, the comic challenge is someone else's baby and I just rolled it into the LAS site to make it easier on everybody (so it wouldn't have to be managed in a spreadsheet.)
With the upcoming challenge system you'll be able to create a challenge where it's create 3 pages in a week or whatever you want so maybe the comic challenge will shut down if that takes over

Start the whole face with one common color, then from there add,subtract and mix lights and darks. Your aim is to fill in every general area till the area is filled.From there you want to fill in the smaller areas in it.
I wouldn't recommend diving in with color. Do value studies first.A lot of them.
