how do you pick a name for yourself to go by online if you can't use your real name?
>>
Hit the keyboard and see what you get. You can always change some parts to have it make sense.
>>
>>2529537
Try and make it memorable. Like, I picked mine by figuring, well, I love space, and it sounds like the name of a NASA probe or something, (hence the "one") and there's a certain irony that comes with the story of Icarus. If all else fails, just use a nickname or make an anagram.
>>
I have no advice since I picked mine when I was about 14 and its always been the same. But really, Google the name to see if its already something popular. Nothing worse than signing up on one website with a name and then trying to make accounts elsewhere, only they're all taken by one little twerp who abandoned them years ago.
>>
Just think about a reference you like and make it into a name that sounds good.
>>
>>2529537
I made mine up randomly while trying to put vowels to make it sound nice.

Alternatively, I find names from obscure stories I really like and twist them to make new names.

Use sites like namechk or whatever to make sure the name isn't being used anywhere on the internet, if it is then I just tweak it some more.

fuck the guy who stole enough of my name that i get nothing on a search
>>
I used to go by Woolie.
Once on /co/ some one posted Quorra from Tron 2, that picture of her on a couch and I replayed saying that was my wallpaper and some one replayed to that with "Woolie?", I asked who that was but I got no answer
I really liked that name because it was accidental and sounded like it had 'tude, later I learned who Woolie was, the guy with dreads from 2 Best Friends Play and I released I shold not use that as a handle to draw porn.

So I came up with Casten.
If from molten Moltar then casting (bronze) Casten: I really lie Space ghost Coast to Coast and I released I was like Moltar, a serious dude that had enough of this bullshit and I like to be behind the camera so that name made a lot of sense to me. But I have too low self esteem to use a name I made by myself.

the whole point is that names happen don't force it..
>>
>>2529537
You don't choose your name, you get named.
>pick a name for yourself
P A N F Y, you're panfy now.
>>
>>2530049
How'd you get named, Nose?
>>
My name is Rebecca and my last name is even more generic and overused so I decided to use the meaning of it to make a psuedonym. My online name now is "twotie" but I don't know if that sounds retarded.
>>
>>2530056
No offence, but the first thing I think of is Twatty.
Actually, that's kind of memorable...
>>
>>2530051
Was drawing big noses on my drawing to show that posts where people have one glaring flaw that any noob can pick out are perfect for getting responses and insults from people way below your level.

Some guy just encouraged me to keep shitposting noses and eventually I did it on my own free will. Some other faggot started calling me nosebro so I just kept it since I didnt want to be called Kyle, Brian, My name when I inevitably get doxxed.
>>
>>2530072
Hm, not bad, nice story.
Makes me feel like I like you a little bit more.
>>
>>2529537
For me I have two different tags, one for nsfw and one for sfw. Nsfw is QuinnCackleDog which is obviously a reference to Harley Quinn and her hyenas, and the sfw stuff I go under Greenbottle Designs, which is actually the last name of my DnD character of like 5 years. Go with something that you either really like, references you in some way, or is at least memorable. Unfortunately though only my nsfw is Google-able.

My friend's real name is so obscure when you google it they're the first page of results. lucky cunt
>>
I based mine off of a name generator answer I did when I was a tween that somehow stuck. It's 'IcestormTundra', though I dunno how crap it sounds to other people.
>>
>>2530089
Oh wow I didn't know you could actually draw pretty well. I thought you just were a shitposter. Blog?

I really like plants and taxonomy so I started with the genus of one of my favorite plants, considered sounds that I liked (letters or syllables), and corrupted the genus with those sounds. I searched for the variations I came up with and tested them on very popular sites like Google, and eventually found one that I like the sound of and apparently has never before been uttered on the internet. The final name only keeps the letter count and a single syllable from the original word, so you could go through the same process just mashing syllables without a base word. I'd stick to 2-3 syllables, short enough to be memorable but hopefully long enough that the chances of it being free are higher. Definitely no more than four syllables.

>>2530114
I'd shorten it to Tundrastorm or change it entirely. Maybe a portmanteau like Tundrice.
>>
>>2529537
It doesn't really matter considering some of the top digital artists around used names like Spoogedemon, ProstateSunrise, Mr Delicious, Colepoopface, and Meth.
>>
I really love the name Nemo. In Latin it means 'nobody', and in another I can't remember it means 'the man'. It also reads omen backwards. I love Captain Nemo, too. So it's pretty much perfect.

EXCEPT FOR FUCKING PIXAR LABELING IT AS SOME DUMBASS ORANGE BASTARD. I still use it though, usernames n such.
>>
>>2530163
Fuck it, on /IC/ I am Nemo. No shame.
>>
i usually think if my favorite foods, some sort of anagram of my birthday or some common word with all of the vowels taken out.
simplicity is always best when it comes to pseudonyms.
>>
>>2529537
pseudonyms are unprofessional and juvenile

you can't name even one (1) scenario where you wouldn't want your real name attached to the work you're selling

i guess if you're a kid posting your ammateurish shit on deviantart, or a 4chan tripfag, they're a-ok
>>
>>2530210
>you can't name even one (1) scenario where you wouldn't want your real name attached to the work you're selling
If you have an extremely common first and last name you might want something more unique.

If you draw dramatically different subject matter and want to keep clients and portfolios separate (ie fine art and horror fantasy, or porn and children's books).

If you are not aiming to be a professional and just want to keep it a side hobby for fun and not get your real name involved.

If your real name is foreign and/or incredibly long and hard to remember, you may want an easier online handle.

If you already have a successful different career with your name attached that you don't want to water down the google results for.

If you paint pornographic material or something else you don't want associated with your real name.
>>
>>2530148
Not that guy, but Tundrice might be bad since it sounds like "tundra rice" which is presumably what happens if you leave rice in the fridge too long. Blegh.

(...though the way it dries out is actually pretty handy for fried rice and other things, but this isn't /ck/ so I'll shut up now.)
>>
>>2530148
Plants and shit are pretty good

Go through the scientific names of animals and plants etc., create portmanteaus and mess around.
>>
>>2530056
It does sound a bit silly, to be honest with you.

Two-Tie would make it better.
>>
>>2530056

The first thing i think of is Thot
>>
>>2529537
I suck at nicknames so I used the first letter of my surname and name, and spell it how they're pronounced and ended looking pretty good.
