seriously dont neglect the traditional drawing side. if your art is bad in pencil it will be bad on a wacom
go to art galleries and read art history books. do not only look to contemporary artists for inspiration
don't whine about modern art, that's annoying and not a productive use of time
learn how to paint/draw/whatever in monochrome first, so you can concentrate on values, before moving onto colour
