Just keep in mind it's regarded as the lens flare of our time. It will make your work look outdated fast.

The moment I heard it was chromatic aberration I figured that would be the case. I like how it's used in some cases though. Pic related.

yup

I don't think this is bad because its used conservatively on background elements. The real sin of chromatic aberration is when people just slam it onto the whole image.

Isn't it interesting that we use techniques that, for all intents and purposes mimic camera lenses nowadays? It's like we have a whole new way of seeing. Probably from the prevalence of digital imagery in our post-modern culture.

Cameras got good enough to eliminate lense flare, so film-makers have started adding them in post.

And apparently it was fairly common for people to dream in black and white in the era of un-colored TV.

We're shaped by our media as much as we shape it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean, isn't that fascinating? So Renaissance people would've looked at paintings with a much different mental stage than we do. Also, we can never fully access that point of view.

Even things like the direction people read can shape choices in composition - an Asian artist is going to be going off of a mindset that starts top-down and in Japan's case right-left, where Western brains will default to starting to look at a piece from the top right corner. Though I don't doubt the western-formatted internet's ubiquity has helped change some of that over in Asia.

Culture and how it shapes the brain is generally an interesting subject, and it does reflect pretty strongly on the art field.

>simulating chromatic abberation
There's a reason why that Lomo and cross-processing fad took off. From how I see it, trying to reintroduce something flawed and a bit more natural eventually happened with people trying to struggle against the staged/stuff/artificial look of certain genres of photography.
