What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Hm, I see your point, for sure. Admittedly though, the animations with human figures are more just me practicing how to move object versus why. To be fair, everyone in LAS is a beginner in some areas. Even those who are really good (a la FmMood etc) are only at that high level in a small area. Not a comfort zone so much as a target zone I think, but still the point stands.

on the flour bag thing one of the first things we were asked to do (after the usual bouncing ball then ball with a tail) was to do a bag of flour or flying carpet type character, but to give them an overriding emotion or feeling too. Like some people made their flour bags depressed, dragging their feet, some were excited to climb and jump the the top of a stack of books and then celebrated when they got there etc.
Practicing movement in general is good too but no reason why you can't do both.

Think in large, flat ribbon chunks of various widths. Design shapes so that they enhance the mood you're going for, instead of trying to make it realistic. You probably should do at least a few studies of different types of cloth in the wind to get a feel for what's believable.

Consider the type of fabric. There are stiffer fabrics and more flexible types.
Ex. for a bell-shaped skirt:
a linen or cotton cloth skirt will still kind of hold the bell shape while being blown around.
A chiffon or rayon skirt won't hold a bell shape at all and falls on the body contours. In the wind, it'll have more erratic movements, like >>2522521 suggests, with thin ribbons, still trying to hug the body.

If we're talking from reference, establish an accurate background color first. Easier when it's a fairly uniform color wall, or the sky, etc. Get that one color right, and you now have a reference to compare all other colors against. Once you have your second color down, you now have another reference to compare to. When comparing, it helps to focus on value first, then temperature. When needed, temperature can be broken down into more specific dimensions (hue and saturation).
If you're talking about pieces from imagination, then it helps to first build a mental library of how color and light works. Do still lifes, and master studies where you think color was handled well. You'll slowly internalize that stuff. Then when designing color, try to have balance. Balance cool colors with warm colors, dark colors with light colors, rich colors with mute colors. The balance doesn't need to be a 50/50 split, and probably shouldn't in many cases.
It also helps to do a ton of color thumbnails, both as a form of quick color studies from refs, and when designing color for an original painting.

Not really any forests but there's this nice patch of greenery that I found about a mile from my house and I have to hop a fence to get to it. When I'm there I do feel a bit better since All I can really hear is the birds chirping and all I see is trees, water, and some minor wildlife (geese, squirrels, birds) I think you have a point, I should probably try going there more often.
