>falling for the chicken scratch meme

Who else wanna be a top chicken scratcher like pic related, Frank Frazetta?
>>
Chicken scratch is a method employed by artists who are just starting off. They do it because they haven't developed confidence in their strokes.

Obviously from the patchwork of gestural strokes in this sketch, Frazetta has confidence and therefore isn't chicken scratching.

There is a difference between chicken scratching and gestural sketching. I bet you will never in lifetime be able to draw a gesture like frazetta did

>>
>>2512770
That's not chicken scratch either. Don't you see how fluid and confident those lines look? Drawing over the same line several times doesn't make it chicken scratch unless the lines are broken up and timidly drawn.
>>
>>2512742
>>2512770
>OP actually believes this is chicken scratch

Is that why most people in the beginner thread have such poor line quality? Are they attempting chicken scratch cause they believe others do it?

The OP pic is clearly filled with chicken scratching. It's a mess.

Pic related, it's the very first result you get when you search "chicken scratch drawing" on Google.

If you have to redraw a line over and over you're clearly not confident in what you do.
>>
>>2512796
frazetta such a hack
>>
>>2512796
>If you have to redraw a line over and over you're clearly not confident in what you do.
Chicken scratch has a 'furry' feeling like in your example. However the "non-chicken" lines are not a good example of confident as well. Even when its drawn with a continuous line, it doesn't show any understanding of construction whatsoever.

There's a clear difference in chicken scratching and reinforcing gestural lines. The fact that you couldn't differentiate them and called OP as chicken scratch shows your average skill level.
>>
That's not chickenscratched faggot, do you even know what your buzzwords mean?

everyone in this thread is trolled.
none other than the end result matters either you need to or dont need to use gesture lines to reach it who the fuck cares.

That one's so fresh outta your ass the shit smell's oozing from my monitor right now.

You're just defending him because he is popular, just like people do with Sakiminchan or whatever.

If the OP pic was posted in a draw thread you'd be complaining about chicken scratching all the same.
>>
>>2512742
Those lines are too long to be chicken scratch. Chicken scratch is putting lots of short lines together to fake a long line.

It doesn't turn into chicken scratch just because you think something is called that way.

I'm still gonna go for nice clean sketches where you actually can see what's going on.

You have no clue what you are talking about. Chicken scratch is very specifically the act of drawing a line in a stop and go type of fashion. Drawing the same line fluidly a couple of times is something tons of great artists do. But hey, I guess they're all hacks and should learn from a master such as yourself.

That's a sensitive, feeling out line rather than a timid chicken scratch. There is a very clear difference in "energy" to the strokes so to speak.

Trolling, probably all the same fool who can't draw smooth lines and got called on it. Everyone else is trying to explain the difference between trying to feel out a line and not being able to make one, but that's lost on the kind of dipshit who'd make a thread like this.

OP, you can't take or comprehend criticism.

Not sure why this is so hard for you to understand.

They can be sketchy lines, messy lines, hairy lines, searching lines, but chicken scratch they are not unless they look like pic related. Do you see those type of lines anywhere in that Frazetta sketch?
>>
>>2513072
I always thought chicken scratch was more akin to a combination between the first and third circle in your image.

OP, you are legit retard and should be institutionalized.

Dodson says about this line adjustment in very first pages of his "Keys to Drawing" and recommends it while life drawing/sketching instead of erasing lines to leave more organic mark of creative process. And no, this isn't fucking chicken scratching.

Holy fucking shit, now I see that like half of /ic/ never actually reached to basic literature. Jesus Christ, no wonder so many of you are lazy NEET hacks with no brain or creativity.

You're a fucking retard. Learning from others isn't a crutch. Reinvent the wheel all alone all you like, intelligent people will read the a manual and adjust as suits them.
You can think for yourself while having the tiniest bit of sense and realizing some people know better than you, especially if they've been doing exactly what you're trying to do for way longer.
>>
>>2513303
No wonder you won't make it.
>>
>>2513318

Sure thing, buddy. I'll wait for that giant list of successful people who adamantly refused to learn from others.
>>
I've only recently gotten past actual chicken scratching. I tend to make very light exploratory lines first and then hover trace over them several times to get the feel of it....THEN i actually make the line in a smooth but somewhat fast stroke. This is on paper though. On my tablet i do pretty much the same thing, but i'm lucky if i get the line i want within 10 strokes. Sometimes it may take me 30 strokes to get the continuous unbroken line i want.
>>
>>2512790
dude that's chicken scratching in all it's glory.
My lines are fluid also and I chicken scratch. That comes with years of drawing like that. Check the image again, if you actually look at it there's atleast 5 places that hit you in the face immediently where the artist doesn't have confidence and he chicken scratched till he got what he wanted.

Holy shit, the fact that this thread is still going is proof of how fucking retarded /ic/ is.

Enjoy your stupid thread, I'm off to design a logo for a client and I may even use chicken scratch in my sketches but it WON'T FUCKING MATTER because that's not the final product.

I agree with this chart.

I think what most people on here forget that even legitimate actual chicken scratch can look good in the right context. It's a tool that an experienced artist can use to great effect, but for a beginner it's a bad habit to pick up. Stop being so goddamn categorical, guys.
