What medium is paper with very little tooth, or very smooth, good for?

charcoal imo, but some people prefer a tooth. I find detail drawing very difficult on toothed paper unless im drawing on a big scale.

What these anons said. I have that exact sketchbook (although mine has an owl in place of the tractor), but compared to good marker paper it still has noticeable texture. Markers and fiber-tipped pens like Microns last the longest on smooth papers. Scratchier nibs like crow quills and school nibs are also a lot more forgiving the smoother the paper. Micro tip gel pens are less scratchy, but you loose some of the line variation you can get when you use more toothy paper.

Ink, charcoal, graphite. I recently discovered that I love ballpoint on smooth newsprint. It feels great.
Smooth paper is generally preferred for ink, the reason being that when ink is being fed onto the paper you don't want any texture to impede ink flow so that you get the smoothest lines possible. This usually goes hand in hand with markers, as smooth paper generally has less bleeding and splintering when marker is applied.
I usually use a smooth Bristol board or any smooth paper with a high weight.
