Battle station thread.
I'm thinking about getting a small desk to use instead of my shitty hand me down computer desk.
Here's mine. I have a larger table but it's not so good for storage.

I got a new house so I'm working on a room dedicated to working on my drawing and artwork. Just ordered this sweet sweet baby, can't wait for it to arrive.

what's with the shit splatter you hung on the wall?
why is your desk a keyboard ON TOP of an actual desk?
why does your house look like an old folks home?
Is that ANOTHER keyboard i see to the left?
nigga christmas was months ago take those lights down
is that a tub of hot sauce?
that duck is freaking me out
clean that fucking room and pick up that can up off of the floor you pig
>>2502464
this guy's gonna make it.
>>2503367
the table with all the pencil's and the duck is where i draw at, the 2 keyboards on top of the other goes to the computer to go to an organ synth (notice large keys on the floor under it) and yes its another keyboard 88 weighted key digital piano to be more specific (because sometimes 2 4 octave keyboards isnt enough room)
also the shit (and it is) on the wall is the first paintings i attempted a reminder that im getting better than that. i was confused about the hotsauce thing and then i noticed the crushed red pepper container. and i didnt even notice the can....u.u i mostly face the other direction and never sit over there . and i like the lights, and dont celebrate christmas. rarely use them though. too dark
>>2503325
the more I look the more weird shit I find
I honestly like those curtains though

Oh god I'd kill myself if I were you. Meaning, kudos for not killing yourself, keep on working and you'll get out of the shithole.
>>2503469
Yeah, it's pretty interesting that in these threads there is always a distinct inverse relationship between the quality of the work station and the quality of the work of the artist. Of course there are always retards who work in retarded areas, and pros who can now afford nice stuff, but in general it seems like people who spoil themselves with nice setups basically sit there and create a bunch of bullshit.
>>2503735
lol I hate to say "you're just jealous" but seriously, you are just jealous. If you have a normal amount of money you're not gonna live in shit and if you're saying that only poor people are "true" artists you're fucking delusional. I bet you work a minimum wage job and support Sanders because you want free stuff for being incompetent and lazy.

Of course a soulless automaton would say this. Lacking a soul doesn't allow you to channel it through your body and transfer it into your work. You have to feel every line, every stroke. People like you are like human printers, they are unthinking, they just do.

I use odourless mineral spirits, which I keep in a small closed container and only open when I need it.
I live in a dark one room apartment with another person and pets, and I have asthma, so conditions for oil painting are far from ideal,
but I make do with what I have!
I didn't even know if working from a computer screen reference would work, with judging colour and such,
but it's worked remarkably well so far.
>>2503735
Yea you right, but kinda hate full in the way you said it. Most of us with a nicer set up do it as a hobby and have much less time to practice because of other obligations. My art is pretty shitty, but that disposable income though.
My tablet is cheap, but it gets the job done.
>>2505862
I like listening to game grumps while I paint
>>2506544
Man, I am still in a crappy situation with tablets. I was too eager and got the intuos art medium and even though it is blowing my mind(coming straight from a Graphire 4) I still wonder about the other tablets. I dunno. Gonna stick with it for now, like you said. Gets the job done.
Your desk is very simplified. Really would have liked to see if you were working on something on the screen though.
>>2506570
I wasn't working on anything, I have projects at the moment, but I really just had it on the desktop screen.
Got a new setup last year and I am loving it.
The desk is made by a company that has a bit of a reputation for bad manufacturing, but it was 50% off and I couldn't pass up the opportunity. The drafting surface folds down into a flat desk so it's great for work and gaming.
The pic is old and doesn't show the nice back support office chair I got, but you get the idea. It's so much better than my old setup, sitting on a sofa with the laptop on a chair in front of it and the tablet on my lap. My old setup gave me bad problems, elbow in particular, with back issues thrown in. I'm glad I spent the money on this setup, I can actually work without pain now.

>>2506952
That's certainly spooky. Most people don't know the moomins anymore so I'm glad there's more fans out there.
>>2506902
The one that I got was the Safco Split-Level Adjustable Drafting Table. I needed the right side for my laptop and I wanted the top part for my speakers and second monitor.
Again, the company has a bit of a reputation for there being manufacturing defects, and being unhelpful if you receive a table with the defect. However, with the priced reduced down from $400 to $200, I figured it was worth a shot. I haven't regretted it.
http://www.amazon.com/Safco-Products-3965MO-Drafting-Height-Adjustable/dp/B003L20P2M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462118858&sr=8-1&keywords=safco+drafting+table
What is your personal artistic situation? What is your medium? Do you need space for a laptop? Do you need that back section? What is your price range?
Figure out your work station needs and then you can figure out how to make it happen. For example, if you have a desktop and don't plan on ever using laptops, and your workstation is next to a wall, you can get a regular table and have the computer tower next to it and mount a shelf for the monitor.
>>2507056
what you have seems perfect for my needs. I have a tower, but it's a small itx tower so it'd fit nicely on the fixed platform, with the monitor on the hutch. The adjustable portion would be for pen and paper, or putting my MS tablet on/laying it flat for regular computer use. I'm gonna start looking into drafting tables again, as I thought they were only meant for standing height and one surface.
>>2507149
I'm not gonna lie, it was a pain in the ass to find a drafting table that accommodated a computer. Most drafting tables are single surfaces. I was scouring the internet and was even considering getting a custom one.
There was one other thing I found that was a glassw corner desk with one side being drafting surface and the other being flat, but that took up way too much space in my tiny house.
>>2507153
Yea, I had just concluded the same thing after searching around...up to and including making on myself. Whelp, I've got all the power tools to make it happen and it's been a while since I've flexed my /diy/ so maybe this'll be a good project.
>>2506960
> Most people don't know the moomins anymore so I'm glad there's more fans out there.
You haven't clearly ever been to Finland mate.
>>2507161
I have not, but in central Europe no one I know knows them.
>>2507156
Definitely see if you can find the thing that locks the drafting surface at an angle first. I don't see those around much. But diy drafting table is a good idea.
>>2507172
Really? I'm surprised. Moomin is hot as shit in northern Europe and Japan. I'd have thought it had spread by now, considering the massive amount of merchandise they're cranking out.
>>2507225
well if you want, take a pic of the part itself. I was just planning on making some notches in a couple rails for the 'leg' of the stand to rest in to adjust the angles. Other than that, I could go the rod with a section drilled out at the end and a bolt with a knob on both ends to manually tighten to down once in position, but that's a little questionable.

>>2510835

>>2510872
Oh, thanks for thinking I could be famous, that's flattering. I don't know, I'm a real shut-in and I'm really shy so I can never promote myself. I'm really stupid with social medias, I guess I should try to get better at that.
>>2510737
Water? I assume you're using water soluble oils or you done fucked up. No, what you do to get lighter values is mix in some white paint.
Titanium white is potent and a little goes a long way, zinc white is more transparent and harder to 'overdose', but shouldn't be used excessively since it dries more brittle.
Thinning agents such as turpentine, mineral spirits, linseed/walnut/poppy/safflower oil and alkyds should be used primarily to alter the consistency, flow and drying time of the paint, not so much the transparency, unless you're doing glazes.
Oil painting is as much about chemistry as it is about colour, I'm learning as I go but there's -a lot- to learn. I'd actually recommend acrylics if you're just learning about colour. That's what I did. But I never did like painting with acrylics.
(Damn son, that's some tight budget IKEA furnishing you got going on there. But I'm in no position to judge.)

>>2501701
Desk for digital I normally move the keyboard to the left and slide the huion forward. That's a huion gt 220 with the standard pen it comes with.
Desks are important as fuck currently working towards getting a desk as wide as this without the drawers so I can have traditional and digital side by side, it really effects how you work if your space can't accommodate you and your equipment comfortably. For a good month I wasn't excites to draw because my shoulder hurt a lot with the huion tilted up more in another configuration.
Really great thread though op I'm loving seeing everyone else's work stations

I usually use this for gaming threads. But I draw here too. Just tuck the keyboard behind the monitor and bam!

You should really read up on painting before doing anything with it if you don't even know that you can mix a colour with white to make it lighter or that you can't mix oils with water. Oils is pretty serious stuff if you don't know wtf you are doing, they're toxic and turp is very nasty to your health if you don't take precautions using it. Srsly bro google and read up on the medium for a bit. I think you should work with acrylics a little and get a feeling for painting before getting into oils.
>>2511480
Oh my god no
How do you not know such a beginner thing? Sorry, but it would take a second to google such things, but instead you take wrong information on 4chan.
Don't make colors lighter with white, unless you also want to mute them and make them more pastel-like.
There's lots of different ways to lighten different colors and there's not one trick that will suddenly make you good. Read some books perhaps (alla prima?) and then start color mixing on cheap small surfaces.
You can't lighten the values without affecting the chroma/saturation.
