We often talk about "making it", but what does 'making it' mean to you?

Some people want to work in an art related industry like cartoons, comics or video games. Some people want to make their own thing and hope to find huge success with it somehow. Others might want to draw young girls(?) getting bottomed-out by nightmarish rape monsters with unnaturally large, pluralized penises.

For one guy it was illustrating a small article in a dying parody magazine

Is there anything you could achieve as an artist that would reduce you to a blubbering wreck if you decided to talk about it later?

For me making it would be drawing creepy weird shit that is both fascinating and terrifying like the stuff you could have found on /f/reakshow art threads somewhere around 2011.

...alternatively to get to the Takashi Murakami level.

For me,it would be sitting in the audience at the premiere of my first movie. The Problem is out of control. The Heros falter, the Villan savours their triumph. The Monster looms, the Victim cringes. The Audience mutters uncomprehendingly, children begin to whimper, the situation is grim, dire, impossible, inevitable. And the camera focuses on Jeremey, worried and despairing...

And then he gets the Look, the solution dawning on his face. He springs into action, not having the time to explain himself, only to achieve the impossible. The audience around me seem confused, questioning, panicked. The other characters likewise, and as the Theme song swells, the Revelation comes to all as well. A Catharsis as the situation is turned upside down, salvaged, saved. Noone saw it coming, only Jeremey. And now everyone else. Cheers, sobs, joy, release. And I smile contentedly. It took an army of people to achieve this,a director who understands, people who believe,to make this wacky idea come to life.

That maybe we can turn it all around, wring Hope from Hell. With a little help from Jeremey.

Earning enough with art, combined with other creative stuff I do, to survive until I die in my 70s, unremembered and unloved. I don't care, I just want a career where I can stay at home and do creative stuff.
>>
>>2500538

i'll "make it" when I'm able to draw a 22 page doujinshi in a couple of weeks.
I'm not pursuing art as a career.
>>
>>2500771
>I'm not pursuing art as a career.

Why would you want to draw that much then? Tell us more fampai. No judgments though, not everybody wants art as a career or considers "making it" to be a monetary thing more than anything else.

The guy in the video in the op is rich as balls and has his own school, but it's drawing a small commission that might not have been more than a couple hundred dollars in a magazine with a dwindling subscriber base and low artistic standards that brings him to tears.

zyzz coined the term in the context of getting visible abs and having chicks sneak pics at your sweet body.
Here, the term is pretty subjective, and similar to "git gud".

Well, since I'm 26 years old, and I just started drawing, last december and even before I only drew as a kid, I don't think I have hopes for a career, but I started drawing, just because I enjoy it.
But, the thing is... I'm not a perfectionist, but it bothers me that I can't draw good enough in my eyes, so that's why I started looking at videos/books.

Also gotta admit that I haven't drawn anything since Dark Souls 3 was released and I'm feeling a day-by-day growing shame that I'm not drawing anything. (unemployed at the moment I would have the time)
>>
>>2502443
also, I don't even really know where to start, there is so so much to learn
I just started the drawabox thingy, and I'm watching random artist videos on youtube. (tips and tutorial videos)

Living off art. Career.

Don't care about "living off my art".

I do it since few years back. 50k yearly and working abroad. Aiming for a lead to director position but have more personal issues to deal with before focusing on that
>>
when im able to look at my drawings without feeling dread.
also it would be cool if i could get a gallery and tell all those modern/abstract local painters to fuck off there is a new sheriff in town
>>
>>2500538
I just need to recover from being burned out.
I think my art is close to a level where I can earn a pretty decent income, so if I had six months to a year where I could stay properly motivated, I think I could polish my skills to a point where I can start building a name for myself.
That being said, I already own my own house and have a career in STEM, so I don't have to worry about money. My goal is to earn enough to get into real estate and live off of rents, then retire and supplement my income by doing art.
Then again, I don't exactly dislike my job, and the salary is nothing to sneeze at.

I mostly just want to be able to make a stable living off of my art but my dream since I was a kid was drawing a comic for Marvel. If I ever did and got to go to even one book signing for it I would cry uncontrollably.

There's no end goal, so my first sign of making it would be making an average income doing art, either freelance or in house.

After that it would be nice climbing up as an art director and/or creating a successful personal project

More than 20 sketches with a lot of lines. Also drawings seems like they done in moderate if not slow pace. Even 30 minutes seems very fast.

Those aren't drawn in a coffee bar, unless the guy was dangling from the ceiling in the women's bathroom when he drew it.

for me making it would be just being able to live off illustration or short comics . sort of like how jay naylor does but without the furry. i could be half successful than he has been and be very happy. also to be able to freehand shit like kim jung gi .
>>
>>2502478
This is what I want honestly. I wanna travel and do something creative. Just see stuff and different people, different sceneries than this fucking desert. I get a strong yearning in my gut when I think about it. That's the material side of it though, really "making it" for me is to animate something iconic in a film, music video, or even tv series. That or have an extremely successful character that you designed, like if you see bootleg merch featuring your design you've made it. Just having my strokes and ideas out there in the world on t shirts and school backpacks would be really cool.

If I could ever work in Japan in an actual studio even just once I would cry disgustingly, like gasping-for-air-choking-on-your-own-salty-tears kind of cry. It's every weeb's dream.
>>
My dream is to be able to draw anything and everything without hesitation or struggle.

I want to be able to convey anything and everything that is in my mind and be able to fully express myself.

I want to combine that skill with other mediums like music and graphic design.

Make amazing illustrations, or animations, or comics, or sprites for a game.

Then at the end of the day, just smile like an idiot at all the masterful shit I've done

Whoever said the sky the limit clearly didn't think about the infinite universe beyond.

I hate to tell you this, but that's literally never going to happen if you're pushing yourself
>>

Extrapolate?

Like if I push myself too much?

What I meant by that post is being able to think of something I want to draw and being like "Oh yeah I know how to start that" and if I need a few references that's fine, but I just want to FEEL like I can draw anything.
