What do you draw when you can't think of what to draw, /ic/?

What do you draw when you can't think of what to draw, /ic/? I'm sure we all have uninspired moments but I'm also sure many of us soldier on through it.

And yes I mean you, I'm not asking for suggestions.

Pic related for me, I seem to draw them a lot when I'm stumped on subject matter.

I'm a mathematician so things like the Koch snowflake, Sierpinski gasket, Menger sponges, projections of boxes from hyperbolic space to the Euclidean plane, boxes using n-point perspective in the limit as n goes to infinity, the Weierstrass function, Cayley graphs for various groups, and penises.

I think that deserves a /thread.

Go outside and draw whatever you see. Draw something in your house you have never drawn before. Draw something you have always been afraid to draw. Come on, brah, you can literally draw anything.

How do people keep running into this problem. Why did you get into drawing to begin with?

My self, my hands, body, I like drawing from life but currently have no one else to draw so I look in a mirror.

I come with a lot of designs for fighter jets. You see, I start drawing the general shape of a rather simple plane (most of the 'merican ones) and I keep doing more complex designs till I fill a whole page.

Most of the time they're shit, but I fix the ones I liked the most.

That's what I do. I know I'm all autism.

Are you the same person in the tattoo thread.
Because you're getting awfully worked up over nothing.
>>
>>2497038

I'm not, and what do you mean worked up?
I'm just noting that those people obviously didn't even read past the first sentence and started lecturing instead.

I practice lines by making checker boards.

Or if I am feeling like being engaged, whatever video game character I played last.
>>
Fanart usually, there's no pride in it but it's better than not drawing at all.
>>
At risk of enraging the "purists" on this site, when I'm out of ideas or don't feel inspired, sometimes I'll make photo-collages in photoshop, then start refining the idea as I go.
>>
open up my reaction image folder and draw one I like

I usually just copy drawings by painters I like, like Lautrec, Rembrandt or Van gogh, it's fun and gets you into a different artistic mindset.

Do have "How to draw" by Scott Robertson? Its all about design and perspective, which could help you alot.

If I can't think of what to draw I use a random concept generator.

I have read that book.

Those are just sketches compared to the shit you draw while talking on the phone. It's just brainstorming.

...but Weierstrass function looks super boring plot-wise. I know it has nice applications, lately I saw it used interestingly in diagnostic & monitoring of wind turbine gearbox, but it has absolutely no artistic merit even as a thing you'd draw out of life-threatening boredom.

Mermaids.
Just mermaids. I've probably drawn more mermaids than I have the regular two legged folk. Might also start creating a culture to set them into.

I do studies of someone else's work that I like. It can be a simple thing like I just enjoy how a certain japanese artists draw folds, and I'll make a limited study where I just crop out a arm from the rest of the source and draw that. Could be anything, a shoe, a facial expression, a palm tree. Whatever. The point is that I take a break from my own work for a moment, and I get to see something with fresh eyes. That always seems to get my mind in the right gear.

The point of doing it small is that when my motivation is low taking on a complete piece can feel like a impossibly big task, focusing on just one small part and studying the shit out of that for a hour feels more accessible. When I study I draw shit over and over and try to capture the shapes as accurately as I possible can. I'll even trace it a few times, try to draw it again from imagination and so on. It's not so much about the subject matter rather than studying the shape language, and that itself seems to upgrade the software in my head so to speak.
