to have some of that high saturation color peeking through when you use your textured brushes
>>2497453
You might like this one, also check these out again:
>>2497420
>>2497413
You only need to use the lasso tool or wand or whatever to select the big areas and big shapes, like hair/face/shirt/etc., after that just use a clipping mask to make sure you don't paint outside of the silhouette of your character and the specific part you're painting like the hair. Once all the basic rendering is done just paint on top of everything even painting outside of the silhouette a bit to fix stuff, like in the Krenz tutorial, look at the bottom row, the girl with the skull on her head, you can see how he stopped using clipping mask at one point and just painted like when you do a traditional oil painting, one layer brush only final destination, then after that just use filters to make it prettier.
I always like these tutorial threads...

Mind if I ask for useful filters for PS like chromatic aberration or tricks for making the drawing more appealing?
>>2497484
Don't use chromatic aberration, instead use adjustments, on the bottom of the layer panel you'll see a circle half white half black, it has a lot of useful options, the most useful is selective color, but there's also vibrance, curves, color lookup and gradient map, I use them halfway through the painting to fix the colors light and then keep painting on top of that, for more into check the Zedig gumroad tutorial, it's totally worth it and you'll learn a lot from his approach to drawing and then painting a character in PS.

He said he sketches composition ideas traditionally. Lots of artists like to do that for a variety of reasons, but mostly because doing traditional sketches is just quicker and easier for most artists.
>>2497432
Does the "loops" thing actually work? Can anyone elaborate?
>>2500873
>>2500941
Well, I'm sorry you suck at drawing, but that's not really the fault of Loomis.
Loomis has a great book on composition and value grouping and a classic book on figure drawing, teaching the basics of perspective, proportions and anatomy. His head construction is also fairly good and used by tons of professionals.

This is close to being a good image, but for fuck's sake the numbering of the steps is set up differently for the two images, and nothing is sized to line up well.
Would be worth making it over again, and also making some for his other step-by-steps he's posted in the past. I can think of at least 5 other images he's posted the steps for (purple enviro w. concrete, steampunk street scene, yellowish enviro with columns, giant in distance by mountains from guildwars I think, night time girl on roof by railing).

>>2501180
I don't feel like uploading 7 images, and the originals are gone from his CA thread. But they are in this pack of his art: http://www.mediafire.com/download/a7yq765puz572l6/Jaime_Updated.zip
>>2501194
Oh, and for those curious for hte writeup that accompanies the step-by-steps:
"Pulled some process images for the peeps that asked. I painted the girl on the balcony tonight so I thought I'd write this while its fresh on my mind.
Step 1: Just a texture underpainting. Old paintings overlayed and scribbled on. Its easier to paint into color and texture instead of trying to cover a white canvas.
Step 2: Blocking in the composition. I had an image in mind and a reference photo of fireworks over London. I didn't want the fireworks but I loved how the city looked. This step goes fast because I'm just trying to get enought information down so I can start judging composition, values and the drawing.
Step 3: Trying to solve the composition and deal with the space in some interesting way.
Step 4: Adding and subtracting shapes to get a more interesting silhouette. Still trying to deal with the space in an interesting way, not liking the composition.
Step 5: After flipping the image horizontally for a fresh look, I decided a crop was the best solution to the issues I had with the composition. Also starting to deal with the drawing in a few areas (her face).
Step 6: Solving some drawing issues in the face and adding details to her cloak. I also changed the lighting on her face to a warm glow from below, partially for its emotional impact but also to call out the planes of her face (which fell flat before).
Final: A few more touches to the city and an unnecessary texture overlay...and its done.
I'm learning these days to keep making meaningful improvements from beginning to end (I have to force myself to take risks and avoid piddling). My eye is constantly on the navigator, checking to see how the little strokes affect the big picture."
>>2501180
In this image
>How to progressively destroy your own composition
>>2501185
>>2501205
Pretty sure that is client work (Guild Wars?), so likely a lot of the decisions in it were either the result of an AD or he decided to sacrifice the composition to show the design. The image is meant to show a specific village, on the rocks, so someone in the process (either Jaime or someone else) decided that it was worth making that the focus by having a closeup of it.
It's also an early piece by Jaime, he would have been in his teens probably, so it's not handled as well as he could do now.
>>2501202
Yeah... they're not in there brochacho.
>>2501246
Though, I think the final image is in there, based on the description in the step by step. And it kinda sucks. So whatever.

I'm similar. While i love coloring on my tablet, I find it's harder for me to sketchon and form my ideas sometimes (Not always) so switching to a sketchbook and pencil sometimes helps that.
I'll do the lineart on the computer though because if it comes out too flat I can erase and touch it up.
