diagnosis :
You're symbol drawing but from what I can see you're not far off on proportion.

draw the same image again a few times, try applying shadow/shading/rendering/value whatever you want to call it

Other Comments :
Resize your images before posting next time you can do it in MS paint.

So I'm retarded and can't make sense of what I'm trying to draw on my studies. Anyone mind pointing out where my second line should be going perpendicularly?

I did use a ruler in a couple spots, but only to rule out any errors of perception caused by odd lines on the box in question.
>>
>>2489071
>where my second line should be going perpendicularly?
Not sure what you mean by this. what are you referring to as the "second line"?

I will say though, to have a natural looking viewpoint, the vanishing points will be much farther apart. Usually off of the page. If you drew something with the setup you have it would look like a fisheye lens.

I know it isn't what you asked, but I just figured I'd point it out just in case you weren't aware.

>>2489089
Sorry, didn't explain it very well. In the picture, you draw a horizon, then put down your view points on the horizon. after that, you make your first vertical line and connect it to both view points. This will give you planes which you then cut to make the box with two more vertical lines. I know you know this, I'm just writing it out to make sure we're on the same steps. Now this is where I'm lost: After making my primary line, I made a plane and bisected it, but I can't figure out where the other line is supposed to go. The exercise said to continue till the page was filled with boxes, so I imagine at some point, I'm supposed to exceed the point of perspective, but even if not, I'm still curious how one would get the shape of the box.

Anyone else sign up for Dynamic Sketching 1 starting next month or am I the only beginner with money to spare? I know the classes are all available online but I'd rather pay for the critique.

>I'd rather pay for the critique.

Do you mean to say dynamic sketching 1, in it's full course is free somewhere??
>>
>>2489111
Any place you put them is technically correct and in perspective, their location just indicates the length and width of the box. If you want to make a cube, the one closer to a vanishing point should be shorter because that side is farther away.

The image is not perfectly accurate. That being said, it's hard to represent the ribs because of how flexible they are. Models you see with their ribs sticking out are either extremely low muscle/fat or breathing in a way to push the ribs out and the stomach in (usually the latter).

watch your ellipses, especially on that middle section. It helps to draw through the form and draw the back of the object at the same time.

Also on the handle try drawing the simple form first before you add the small details (like that ovoid depression on the top) so that the details will follow the form.

rendering is pretty good but remember that there are two main types of shadows -- hard and soft, and that distinction is really important. Hard shadows are cast shadows (they are cast from an object interrupting the light) and soft shadows are form shadows (they result from the natural turning away of form from light).

You've turned the main cast shadow from the top of the pot into a soft shadow and it looks strange. You also made the cast shadow of the pot itself soft when it should be reasonably hard. (you can actually see that as the shadow gets further from the physical object, it softens slightly, but you have it soft throughout).

Also push your values a bit, it could use another step of light and dark (light on the top of the pot and the top of the handle and the upper left side of the pot should be a similar value to the white foreground).

Overall very well done but just a few points to keep in mind.

>>
>>2489669
So anyone have any tips for getting better at sketching in digital? I cant even draw straight lines with ghosting since my hand doesnt slide as smooth as on paper
>>
>>2489672
the advantage if digital is that you can undo instantly, so you place your lines and undo them until its perfect, digital wont ever have as good as traditional, atleast for now, since we are limited in tech slighty, but overall do to advantage in ease of work its better.
>>
>>2489673
But there has to be some way other than attempt>ctrl z>attempt>ctrl z>repeat till success
>>
>>2489675
The sensitivity on your pad might be too high. Try fucking with the settings until you can make straight lines.
>>
>>2489675
well once you get better with practice, you will need fewer amount of crtl z, also dont watch the the mouse cursor, watch infront of where you wanna draw the line
>>
>>2489678
Well my tab is a huion k58 and their drivers dont really give many settings to fuck with. Im also having a prob with the working. When im trying to make a selection or draw a vertical/horizontal with shift, the selection automatically disappears randomly and the straight line goes from vertical to horizontal mid way. The strokes i make with brush tool are always continuous so it should be a hw problem. Maybe shitty drivers. What do you guys think?

Random question:
An ideal man is 8 heads, his middle is crotch area. While an average man is 7.5heads. Where do you take out the 0.5 of the head? do you just draw every part slighty shorter and achieve this effect. Or you draw his legs slighty shorter or upper body slighty short?
The same thing about women ideal women is 7.5 heads. So which parts i need to shorten to make there more realistic. Obviously everyone always raving about women with long legs, so im guessing women with disproportionaly long legs can be construed as more sexy? This feels like fucking science to me.

You know of those drawings people make just before they start studying so after a time they can look back and see if they have improved and see how much they have improved?
Yeah, I attempted one and this is the fucking result.
Should I kill myself and give up before beginning or do I have some sort of hope and should start studying?

Is the nose right inbetween the eyes?
I mean, seriously - this is not what I actually see many times IRL.

My teacher just took a shit on my drawings when he saw that I've had dozens of papers with that mistake.

I was extending the nose width by a bit less than 1/4 of the eyes.

Your anatomy is all over the place.
The bent arm is significantly longer than the other one.
The head is too small, making the face too small and everything squished. Squished features tend to make a face look younger. The body looks older but the face is too young.
The head is not sitting on the neck properly. If you were to draw a skeleton there it would be bent very oddly.
The hat is also not really sitting on the head properly.

you're drawing flat shapes and symbols with no thought about dimension.

instead of doing just a close up detail of eyes, try to draw the entire head in its most basic shape and think about it in 3 dimensions, and you'll have a better idea of where your eyes should rest on the head and what shape and size they should be.

specifically with your eyes right now, the left eye is tilting down on the outside, and the right eye is tilting down on the inside. the left eye is also significantly larger than the right eye (based on iris size) which gives the impression of a 3/4 profile, yet the features are arranged as if the view is nearly a straight frontal portrait

sorry about shitty redline but you should at least be able to recognize the shape, size and orientation issues with your eyes
>>
>>2490580
>first thing to practice
Draw more than one thing

The second step is draw more than 2 things...

And so on and so forth...

by "there is always a horizon" anon means that there is always a series of vanishing points at which all things would meet at a distance. you can use these vanishing points to apply perspective to distant objects, like the clouds or the sun in the back of your image, and you can use that sense of distance to relate objects to one another.

for example, the sun is the furthest away object in this picture, and would be applying light to the backs of the rest of the objects in the image because of that. the next closest object is the series of clouds, which in this image all appear to exist on the exact same plane and have no depth, because the size and level of detail that they have is all identical. using a series of vanishing points or a horizon, you can place the clouds at different distances behind the unicorn and give them different levels of detail to imply their location.

>>2489837
the viewers eye level, yes
>>
>>2490503
draw very light perspective lines to maintain sizing and distance, and dont be afraid to erase and redraw something that you havent gotten right. dont work one object at a time and fully fill in the detail, draw the whole scene in rough simple lines to get your scale down before you move into detailing

>>
>>2490625
>I didn't bother to do the rest of the face because it was never my intention to

thats the problem, drawing 40 sets of eyes like a bored high school student isn't ever going to get you anywhere, because eyes drawn in a face are never removed from that face. to properly understand where the eyes sit on the head, how they are oriented and their shape and size in perspective, you have to understand how to draw an entire head or at least the framework of one
>>

The pupils are way too small, the eye on the left looks really bad, right one is beter i guess. Your lines are shit as well. They are shaky and rushed. Don't draw like you have parkinsons, think about every single line before you draw it. Ask yourself whether that line helps show form, if not then don't fucking put it in. Like the shit above the eye on the left, you wanted to shade it but instead you made that whole place completely flat because those lines don't follow the form they are just lazy, rushed scratches. Also next time finish your drawing a bit more the eyes are just hanging in empty space for the most part at, either finish the area around the eyes so that there is a bit of context to them or just draw eye studies this is just lazy and rushed.

it was really just the big trees on the island and the tree next to cabin. had to color pick those. for some reason i couldnt getting around to checking parts of the palette I havent used before. but for example the reflections in the water also have subtle difference in color that are easy to over look.
>>
>>2490655
looks good, your sunset is out of order though. in your reference its pinkest at the bottom, orange, fades into an almost green color very temporarily and then into a pale pale gray blue. yours goes from a lip of pink at the bottom, orange, pink again inexplicably, and then a darker blue with some purple shades. your pine tree is a bit too blue on the needle highlights as well. the other major thing i think is that your bridge is significantly larger/wider than the reference. other than that though nothing really stands out to me as a huge deviation, nice work

Loads of people have a crisis around 30 and start doing something different. You're barely an adult yet (which isn't meant as an insult) and you're worrying about it being too late? C'mon, man. Calm down, take the classes if you want to take them. Drop some of the time spent on non-drawing hobbies/lazing around and draw with that time instead. You'll be fine.

Hi /ic/, I'm new to drawing, and I've been experimenting with figure drawing. Here are some sketches I've made. Would anyone be kind enough to provide some helpful tips?

Top left has better proportions than the rest, try to get in the habit of drawing that central line more often. It gives every part of the body an anchor and makes the figure more coherent.

Recurring theme in these pictures is disproportionate arms, so maybe work on those.

something easy to fix would the definition of her abs, there are no hard lines on her stomach on the ref image.

You need to be aware of proportions in comparison to other parts of the body. Head's much too small.
