What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Draw what you want to from imagination. Figure out the biggest issue with it; perspective, fucked up forms, whatever, and fix that part specifically. Then do imagination stuff again, analyse it, study to fix, and repeat.
Grinding boxes can be useful but also very boring. Artists tend to be visual learners, and if the stuff you're drawing is so boring you don't even want to look at it, it can stunt how much you learn from it.

A daily drawing habit is progress. Ramp up the 30min if you can, and focus on an overall plan. Have concrete goals with specific, discreet steps to get there. Iron out these small steps and together they'll manifest as visible improvement.
The only valid reason to drop out is if LAS makes you draw less in the day or focus on sketches and doodles that aren't aligned with your overall plan in anyway.

Personally I'm thinking of dropping but this doesn't have anything to do with wanting to drop art or drawing less. It's just that this whole thread and LAS thing is making me waste time I feel in the end. I wish I could ignore it but from time to time people are dropping critiques and comments and well, let's be honest it's human nature wanting to know what's being said in a circle you're part of. Sometimes like right now I'm telling myself "yeah I could delete the thread and never look back at it again" but it's a lie, it'll be too tempting to keep an eye on it again.
Originally I'm on 4chan to avoid all these normie shits so having to deal with slight anxiety or attention name faggotery due to LAS is bothering me. Now the picture isn't all black either of course, LAS truly helped me in getting in the hobby of drawing more, and this is exactly for that reason I'm scared of letting go. If I let go sure I'll be free from the negative sides I just mentioned but there's no saying I might not revert back to my old self and not continue to draw every day.
I think I'll at least wait for tumblrcritique person to blog me and will ask everyone their opinions as well to see how I could improve. thank you for taking the time to look at my submissions, and to answer your question, to be honest I'm not really sure. I think originally one of my goals was to make money doing porn but I quickly found that it makes me uncomfortable. I feel like drawing just gives me a direction in life, like it's something that can be continuously studied and improved until I die. Then do them. I looked through your stuff too and it looks like your atleast competent. I wouldn't say you're amazing but not bad at all. The thing that stood out to me is the lack of finished pieces, I camt really get a handle on what you're capable of because your posts are mostly studies. You could definitely get commissions at this point, just post finished/ interesting things and try to attract people through fan art or something. Or try the comic challenge on LAS. You should definitely be doing stuff you enjoy along with the studies.

I agree, lack of finished pieces is definitely a weakness of mine. But I feel like every time I try to tackle a piece and bring it to a finished state, I hit a wall where I feel like "oh I have no idea how the lighting would work in this scene, I don't have any knowledge of how to light feathers, how should I go about adding texture to the environment/characters" etc, etc. I don't want to "skip" any stages of training my art abilities. Since I'm not able to go to school though I feel like I run in a circle most of the time though, in terms of my study direction.

I know what you mean. That's pretty much a problem most artists have, obviously you've got to set time aside to study those things but at the same time at least attempt to do what you want. You'll probably feel better and it'll give you an idea of where you went wrong with your studies.

Eh, you guys are right. I actually was going to say "perfect" lines but I still hold firmly that draftsmanship matters more. a skilled artist can create straight enough lines that serve the purpose, but if it is something mechanical or architectural the "perfect" look will be more from tools than your own skill. I should have said the skill behind drawing a straight line matters. I wanted to kind of stay away from talking about lines so much in this one though since I literally say one thing or another about lines in every single one.

I'm feeling the same thing exactly. Just skimming the posts in here every day takes at least half an hour of my day, even though I don't actually post.
LAS in general is corrupting what I draw, I know I'd be making way more progress if I put my hours into the right things without worrying about posting.
I think I've built up motivation to draw without it now, so it's served it's purpose and I'm grateful for that, but at this point it's doing more harm than good.

LAS will end soon. Nobody will have become good. We all will have learned something, it will have been fun, and we'll say goodbye to each other as some of us return to work, others return to the daily routine of shitposting in draw threads in /ic/, and others try to become good only to realize it is way beyond them, and just settle down on another easier and more rewarding career.
Let's face it, the art world is saturated, companies will treat you like shit, and even the top positions don't pay enough to sustain anyone. You say that it doesn't matter, that you will work hard and you don't care about money, that it is your passion... The cold hard truth is that when you're in your forties and your art doesn't pay the bills you are going to be wishing to have studied more and entered engineering or another respectable career.
Not even five hours a day will get you to the top level. The pros were not like you. People say that talent doesn't exist, but not everyone who works their asses off makes it. Some people have a strong passion for art since young, and it is impossible to get that passion through hard work.
Think about it this way: Anon313 and FMmood are the best of the best in LAS, and not even them could get an art job that paid the bills. It is not viable to make a living out of art in this day and age, and even art gods like Mullins, Ruan Jia, etc. have to rely on another sources of income.
I know that you won't trust these words and you'll just say "he's just another doomsayer" and ignore it, but I was like you at one point. I was an enthusiastic 22 year old with a dream, I had always liked to draw, and I listened to the words of hope of everyone in the internet, so I wasted five years of my life trying as hard as I could, only to end up depressed, sad, lonely and unemployed.
Don't pursue a career in art, lasers. Just don't. Avoid the same mistake I made and just pursue something that will make you happier.
