I need to get two art pieces done; one for the cover of a collection of old stories I want to remaster from when I was a kid, and one for an unrelated project. I'm not good at art, and I've seen progress threads showing the average time it takes to git gud as being around 9 years.

I'm wondering if it's possible, given you study your particular subject of the piece enough, to draw artwork that is abnormally high quality for your actual skillset?
