"Sofles" is one of the most famous graffiti writers in the world right now.
Want to know a few things about "sofles"
He went to a private school called "Brisbane boys collage" this is one of the most expensive private schools in Brisbane city.
He grew up in an upper class inner city suburb called "Paddington" which is expensive real estate.
Sofles dad is an engineer who makes a lot of money.
He basically grew up as a highly privileged rich private school kid from a good home.
Yet for some reason you still hear retards going "I do graffiti cause I from the slums bro"
Graffiti is not ghetto anymore... as evident by one of the most famous graffiti writers in the world coming from an upper class background

graffitti typicall is the wild expression of the individuals, where he donns a nickname and creates a hyper-stylized logomorph to advertise his persona.
This individualism is seen as illegal as it defaces public and/or private property. Becuase it is seen as an eyesore, something that breaks the pattern of your horizon. And also this graffitti all seems to attract other acts of social discontent- gangs,drugs, shottings, other tags, vagrancy, homelessness, and other "broken windows".
It is an "art form" , that all levels of skill are attracted to do.
But it is more /gd/ than /ic/ honestly.

this is true! as a frenchfag, i can tell graffiti was imported in my country by the grandchild of the president of lehman brothers. it's not 1976 anymore. you still have poorfags doing graffiti, but most of the really active players are sons of wealthy people.

Alright here's a thing or two:
As if Ironlak meant shit In the graff game.
A couple years back, DOES was the writer that got them out there.
DOES from LOVELETTERS CREW was a really influential and talented artist that brought a new aesthetic to the game. He and other pioneers of "Neo-graffiti" like ASTEK, DAIM and LOOMIT made shit like 3D letters and Photorealism a common thing in graff.
So, yeah. Maybe graffiti isn't "ghetto" as it used to be because it doesn't reach that demographic. You STILL have bombers like JAONE, SKUF and KEEP6 who keep it "ghetto", but I honestly think these guys are in it for the thrill, the fun and the fame that Graff can give.
So by only considering Ironlak as a main graff brand, you're already having a strong bias towards it. There's other amazing and much more productive brands like FRESH PAINT, MTN, MONTANA and BELTON that have garnered a significant amount of attention to graffiti.
These brands represent it as a whole, because they get people like MADC and COPE to sponsor them.
If you don't like soflos then it's fine, just make it clear.
But keep in mind graffiti is as ghetto and as "Graphic-design" as ever, and to this day it continues to break boundaries, combining many art forms into one wall.
How do I know this?
I'm a writer myself. And hey....
It's pretty fun. No need to insult or put others down. If anything, I wouldn't mind expanding my horizons and learning what some of you Picassos do. Likewise, I wouldn't mind if you anons wanted a graff sketch or lesson here and there.

Graffiti for the most part is fucking horrible (tagging trains, busses, private property etc) that's still prominent within city rat culture in Australia at the very least.
Street artists like Sofles used to do tagging but even still did it with a unique style and then he progressed into street art which is to be honest quite beautiful if done in the right environment
