It's okay if you don't hide it (like you're consciously cheating), but it shouldn't be an end in itself. You might want to do it for a better study of the contour (everybody learns differently) or maybe for modifying the form and creating something entirely new (a fantasy cat maybe).

but what if it's out of laziness? i don't deny tracing though. I just like skipping to the coloring/details part because it way more fun
