seriously though, its usually decent but they also do a whole lot of stupid shit.
It depends on which splash art you talk about. On average they're pretty decent, good composition, decent anatomy, good choice in colors and design.

Wonderful technique and post-processing, but they are horribly inconsistent. Probably because it's multiple artists, but...

At least get the same artist to draw all splash arts for the same characters. It bothers me a ton when skins for a character end up looking like a completely different character.

Oh, they have regular cases of "MUH DYNAMIC, ACTION POSES". Look at this stupid shit. The artist who drew this needs to be slapped across the face.

Except this was when Riot was a small company and they're not a horrible artist.
The art sucks, but for the most part they'd be accepted in most new companies, having the connections certainly solidified it, but its not like Riot was hiring the best of the best at that time.

I'm amazed by the composition and the optimization in different sizes

every splash art has to work in many different cutouts:

• horizontal rectangle for background
• vertical rectangle for loading screen
• portraits for minimap

theres usually like, 3 people working on each splash. one for the character, one for accesory/weapons, one for backgrounds.

I've actually spent a good amount of time researching their splash arts because its one of my biggest inspiration nowadays. Simply put the splash arts have a lot of collaboration and some of them take a tremendous amount of time so don't ever feel like you have to reach that quality by yourself.

Well make sure you show your final capability, that matters a lot.
you can also include a sketch book, which would show at least your base abilities before you go crazy with rendering.
No one expects you to push those out in a day, but they expect you to have the capability to actually draw something similar.

The way he talks is extremely annoying but he's a pretty inspiring person. Last time I checked his DA he still had his older art so you could see the amazing improvement he went through.

I just assume that since I play the game and follow the artist posted here >>2463980, he mentions sometimes stuff from the inside (like the death zone thingy)

trivia about him, he did the original splash art for ahri, and after riot changed it when it was old and he wasn't working for them as a splash artist anymore, he did the pic posted there, possible because he didn't like the new one [spoiler]like I do and many others [/spoiler]but of course he couldn't mention that out of professionalism

The sketching workflow/setup he showed was great. He saved me a few weeks worth of trouble and I would have ended up with a worse result either way. If the other videos are as good then he will literally save me from months full of annoyances and setbacks.
