I don't know this particular painting well but this is a type of Christian art called 'Stabat Mater'. The one on the lest wearing a blue mentle is usually Mary (Jesus' mom) and the one on the right wearing red must be John the Apostle (one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus who is a MAN).
