When did you grow out of drawing anime?

I've notice the more I get good the less anime I draw. Most anime is bad anatomy, bad perspective. The better a person gets the more flaws people can see in anime.

That is why fine artist don't draw anime.
>>
>>2448450
Good work you're learning to draw from life now here comes the hard part you ready? Here we go, now apply everything you've learned onto this form of style and deviate away from life while still holding onto fundamentals to essentially "break the rules"

Come back and tell me if you still feel like you've improved after that.
>>
Never, now I can just draw it better and not try to make it ugly with obvious Western influences to be "unique" like I did when I was in my weeaboo denial phase

That bottom girl looks like a disgruntled frog even if it's more "realistic" and the top doesn't have eyelids so of course it's hideous
>>
>>2448450
The only time I drew anime was when I was in 4th grade and doodling DBZ ripoffs. So around age 10 I guess?

>Most anime is bad anatomy, bad perspective.

That argument is fucking dumb. Most realism is also bad anatomy and bad perspective. Good artists are always the minority, regardless the style or medium they work in. There are thousands of terrible wannabe realist artists for every good one.

>The better a person gets the more flaws people can see in anime.

No, you're just going through the first stage of Dunning Kruger syndrome. That's when you just started studying anatomy and you now feel a false sense of superiority for everything that isn't realism. Once you get good, this will go away and you start appreciating good art regardless of the style.

I like how some people shit on westerners for trying an 'anime' style but when a japanese/chinese/korean person does it they immediately kneel down and suck their dicks. i guess it can't be helped though since there aren't many westerners that do it convincingly well and not look like shitty imitations
>>
>>2448671
>meme neck and second set of eyebrows

no thank you
>>
>>2449112
I don't see why "westerners" in particular wouldn't be able to draw anime. It's not a matter of nationality, is it?
>>
>>2449131
>meme neck
The badly placed shadow is a meme or is it something else about it?
>>
>>2449143
It's a lack of respect and immersion. I only grew up with anime, so even as a shitty artist, my stuff looks borderline decent versus a lot of weeb shit. But most weebs embraced it because it's trendy, so they don't really respect it as much and only draw chibi or moe shit, most likely because it seems like the easy route to go. Japs, Chinks and Gooks on the other hand, just see it as another style that's just as difficult as others (all things being equal) and that respect causes them to put a little more effort into it.
>>
>>2449152
I can see what you mean, I also grew with it and it feels like I'm more involved with it, like it's a part of me (kill me), unlike other guys who like it more as a trend.

But well I don't think people like things just for show, do they?

Well it matters not
>>
>>2449143
the general response seems to be that professionals, i.e. people can actually draw, don't want anime on their portfolios. that leaves what are essentially symbol drawings by middle school weebs the most visible.

Probably a matter of motivation. There aren't any jobs in the west that demands that asian style so the western artists that are actually worth a damn don't pursue it, instead they do that semi realistic foundation-heavy academic/film/sci-fi/fantasy thing that western media demands because that's where the money is and probably the safest means to make a living. Probably also the reason why the few that do that asian style seriously are trying to learn Japanese and are sucking Japanese dicks super hard in social media in hopes of getting popular with them and get more Japanese gigs (..that pay half of what Wizards of the Coast typically pays in a similar project..). You probably know a few of these artists.

picture relevant, by an actual currently working japanese animator and illustrator. probably wouldn't do very well in the west with art directors unless he changes his style completely.

You are just getting your first "i finally create real art" boner, everyone gets it when they start being able to draw portraits and render semi properly,
realism usually seem more impressive than anime because you can regard many mistakes as artistic choices because the realistic human is pretty flexible to account
for error while anime and most simplified styles require precision and when you don't have it it really shows.

Yeah I recognized that now and I am grateful that I did at all. I guess I wanted to be a comic book artist since i was a small child. ( i have comics I made when I was 3.) I when I saw that all that time drawing anime didn't reap much, fused with watching student that have barely done art doing shit 1000s time better then me made me feel really shitty. I also have a eye hand co-ordination disability and it really hit home at that point too.So got got really upset and dropped drawing.

At this point, I know with practice starting from square one, I can do it. Do you have any tips on what to work on or where to start? So I don't practice bad habits.

the problem with OP image is that it was made by a professional artist (an artist which makes profit through his art) but which got his job, not by skill, but by relations and history

that style is all over the wikihow site. btw, can somebody link me the ... http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Over-an-Anime-Addiction

I can relate bro, I gave up on drawing for school because my father told me there is no way to make a living out of art anymore, and I believed him being young, stupid and listening my parents in almost anything

after I got access to internet, I could see that's not totally true, so I decided to switch after I finish highschool. ofcourse I couldn't enter a college with how much millage I had, so now I am fighting between job and makings studies... and /ic/
>>
I stopped seriously trying to draw anime stuff in late high school, because my mom hated the shit, and so did most of the art magnet I went to...

...but then it fucking turns out that right now, most of my money comes from my weeby boss, even if he's aware that I vastly prefer realism in my spare time and with college assignments.

I was screaming inside over the demand for ridiculously sized cone boobs today.

I worry about the game we're working on being laughed at, but there's a decent market that eats stereotypical anime stuff up, so I guess I can't complain.

I wonder how my boss' attempt at art and sketching would be perceived on /ic/ sometimes, because I'm not one to bite hands that feed me, and I can't seem to be brutally honest.

At least I'm not micromanaged as much as the music and programmer guys.

I'd say just don't succumb to depression (I've stopped drawing for months that eventually add up to a few years at a time cause of it too, it's the worst) and draw everyday no matter what, make it a habit. You can't afford to skip any days since you took a long break. Try your best to work through your disability. You can do it, anon. And don't compare yourself with other artists unless it's for inspiration. That shit will kill you. I get severely ashamed about the level I'm at too, socially, mentally and art wise. But I'm not gonna give up, my crappy little drawings are all I've got.

I can't give you advice on square one cause I've made my entire art style on working through bad habits so I probably still have a ton. And still draw a bunch of kawaii school girls desu, don't want to lead you astray. But depression I know about and you gotta keep that cunt at bay for at least an hour or two everyday so you can practice. Draw stuff around you, like your tv or pc or a pet if you have one. Then try to draw a bigger object. Then try to draw the entire room. Go outside and try to draw a tree. Slowly build up your confidence and visuals.

Godspeed.

I think with a lot of Asian countries drawing in an anime style is really a passion project rather than to make a decent living.

It's partially the reason why prints/doujins in comic festivals in Asia cost way less than cons in the west.

I cannot post anything I have on my artstation, no professional would want this kind of exposure. Especially when we talk Jazza- a topic hardly worth any discussion. Also why would I care what's the reason Jazza is shitty artist? You can argue his comic style can appeal to certain crowd (I don't like stylised stuff to begin with), but his fundamentals are simply not there. serious answer?

art school. I saw how badly other people drew anime, and then my drawing was coming up next for critique with mangaish garbage going on. I clenched my teeth embarrassed. And I immediately started to try and distance myself from it.

One saving grace was seeing an artist show their sketchbook, drawing from life. So I did that and it helped a lot. More recently I love anime again so I don't give two fucks. I'd love to draw something nice in a manga or anime influence.
>>
Anime is only a problem when you learn to draw *from* anime.

Anime style is an abstraction of life, so if you're learning from it you're not going to get all the concepts you need to know. There's way too many weebs who try to replicate dragonballz pictures or whatever without knowing what half the things they're trying to draw actually are.

If you actually do want to draw it then the only correct way is to learn to draw properly and THEN learn to draw anime.
>>
>>2456344
99% of professional artists working on anime and manga projects learned to draw anime and manga by copying the pictures they liked before ever studying fundamentals if they even consciously studied fundamentals
>>
>>2456573
And that's why anime's inbred as fuck. Look at the difference it makes if manga artists actually study their fundamentals thoroughly like Araki Hirohiko.
