Artist Is fool.

http://fool.deviantart.com/

His kid died back in late 2000 and game jobs kept on cancelling on him in the middle of production so he quit making games for a living since .

He has some small flash games he worked on with of my colleagues back then but I really don't know if they managed to release that since the last time he showed me the screenshot.

As of now I think he's making a clock or violin for a living. I really can't remember.

You mean a job that is so niche that if you become well known pixel artist you get to earn 50/h to 75/h?

less lone pixels/banding/broken outlines, more concentration on clusters locking together. not bad though.

How do you even do this kind of shit? Do you literally just use the pen tool in MSP and apply a fuckton of skill?
>>
>>2443524
I doubt it, a lot of other programs have binary tools that look like the pen tool in MSP. They also have layers, which is why I guess a lot of artists would prefer that over MSP.
>>
>>2443524

There's lots of programs made specifically for pixel art. I use Graphics Gale, and usually MSPaint won't cut it because you'll want something with gridding, layering and zoom awareness for more control over what you do. Drawing with pixels is both easy and hard at the same time, because you have a massive degree of control, but you also need to apply it on a tiny scale. It's a great way to develop technical knowledge too, because you can see why colors/forms/highlights work or don't work, and you can adjust accordingly based on individual pixels.

tl;dr just like any style, start small and work your way up and anyone can do it.

mspaint is not recommended. I can only speak for myself, but I treat it just like I would a painting, using progressively smaller brushes, until I'm just tweaking individual pixels. Sometimes I'll take an actual painting, reduce the number of colors to something manageable, then clean up the result on the pixel level.

Mostly it's about learning the same fundamentals that apply to all 2D art, which is why artists from other media who already have a grasp of the fundamentals pick up pixel art pretty quickly. there's really not a whole lot to learn that's specific to pixel art as a medium.

>>

It's not particularly advanced but the form is there. It looks like what it's supposed to look like. Next time turn the automatic AA off because it's hard to make out the actual pixels.

Really digging these two. Love the fact that you're picking some lesser known characters such as Jolyne and Rebecca.

When I'd see newbies come onto the pixel forum I frequented we'd always have to explain the same thing- fundamentals of drawing/painting are the mostimportant and cross over. Yes, there are thing specific to pixel art that needs to be learned (proper lineart, anti-aliasing, dithering, selout, limited palette, knowing graphical restrictions for certain gaming consoles if you want "that" look, etc.) but ultimately if you can draw and paint well that's really gonna be your biggest strength. I think beginners think pixel art will be easier to fudge and make look good since it's at such a tiny level? That's definitely not the case but regardless- learn to draw at least half decent THEN get into pixel art. Or you can do both at the same time but personally I'd make sure I was half-competent at drawing first.
>>
>>2445599
yeah, i know how to draw, i just want to try a new medium is all. thanks for your input, i'll definitely do more learning and practicing, maybe someday i'll be able to make something that's quite decent.
also nice triple dubs.
>>
>>2445610
>i know how to draw
Hate to break your bubble but no you don't. Some basic isssues going on with your pixel art that would have crossed over from your drawing/painting abilities.
>>
>>2445610
stop.

you lack the most basic of knowledge of anything.

spend time downloading vilppu and do loomis.

Nice touch, anon
>>
>>2445406
no idea what sort of motion that's supposed to be... pretty awkward
>>
>>2445599
line art isn't necessary to pixel art, and selout is generally a terrible idea. otherwise I agree.
>>
>tfw you want to make your own games but, you only know how to code.
Learning how to draw good, is way harder then learning how to code good.
>>
>>2446014
Selout Was A Revolutionary Idea.
>>
>>2446162
That is just your preferences then. Or you have never written commercial grade software. Most software on hobby developer boxes/Gentoo/GNU/Webshit is basically the counterpart to DA fanart. If you have an easy time coding the game you probably aren't doing nearly enough.

Actually I find learning to draw easier because people had hundreds of years perfecting the craft while software development is in its infancy, fucking terrible all around and full of half-assed bullshit.
>>
>>2446014
It's more about preference right? Also yeah pixel art is more like painting than it is drawing... if you do lineart it's a good idea to just draw normally then shrink it down, then clean up.
>>
>>2446013
I think she,s floating but it look like shes hanging herself
>>
>>2446172
The guy who coined the term has even expressed regret at getting behind the concept. It only works in very specific circumstances, otherwise it looks like total shit.
>>2446201
yeah, it's preference. you can use line art if you want, but it's not specific to pixel art or even necessary.
