You could consider bringing the pelvic region down a bit farther (just above where the stockings begin for example) if you want those idealized proportions; as-is the legs are tremendously long. Assuming this was intended to be female and not a linebacker in a garterbelt keep the relative head widths in mind; a woman's body including the shoulders is roughly two total heads wide whereas this character looks to be a tad over three heads wide. Despite not having any rendering you've used the scales on the belly area to suggest form, tilt, contraction and so on in the torso which is nice. Some of the perspective on the sword is just slightly off, just a nitpick. Not bad for what it is.

Body isn't bad, though the fingers look a bit awkward (the distance between the top of the longest finger and its base should be roughly equidistant to that of the bottom of the fingers and of the base of the palm/top of the wrist, yours looks to have been drawn a bit longer), the feet are a bit strange (particularly the back stage-right, I don't think toes take such a sharp angle like that) and face could use some work. By all means though, continue.

I like the linework; with the shading I've found it often looks better if you start in one direction and end in the other, rather than going back and forth. If you're board if it you can certainly hang up your gloves if you want, but it's on you.

The proportions are pretty distorted. Keep in mind a female's body is about two head widths at the shoulders. Some artists can manipulate these proportions to extreme degrees and still make them read well (somehow), but always keep them in mind. There's also the matter of the lower legs which both look a bit too short relative to the body mass, and her bored expression doesn't really fit the dynamism of the pose. Keep it up.

Good work as usual, marker guy. You've done a pretty good job using the bandages to articulate the forms of the parts they wrap around. I'd say on the breasts you might want to consider their roundness, the bandages look like they're pulled more taught, but there's no compression on the stage left breast so there's kind of a conflict there.

The whole thing is pretty flat, and the many superfluous lines you needed to use to capture the shoulders and upper arms suggests a need to work on your manual dexterity and formally study the concept of construction.

Inconsistent features on the face and head; the horns imply the head is tilted stage-left to a degree, as do the freckles. Where the ears emerge from the side of the head on the other hand imply a tilt towards stage-right, the stage-left eye is notably larger than the stage-right eye, and the stage-right breast is smaller than that of the stage-left; though by happenstance it's been made somewhat consistent with the tilt of the shoulders because of that. The tail would have to be coming from way off of her buttcheek to be visible from a straight on view like that.

You're hiding the hands because they're hard to draw; definitely put some effort into those in the future. Look at a video/tutorial to show you the underlying structure and then draw your hand and hands from photos to practice, but perhaps before that you do have some other stuff to work on.

In my opinion you should consider either really investing time into practicing rendering (not necessarily in this thread, I mean in general) or attempting line drawing more. I feel that this sort of halfway sketchy rendering might not be doing much to help you improve, know what I mean? For what it's worth you do fairly well with these low saturated colors and the limited pallet you use, but I just feel like it might be taking more time than it might be worth and that you ought to either go all-in with rendering color or consider sketching with lines instead.

I'm a big fan of many of the original designs, however, for the purposes of this thread and /ic/ I feel that the thumbnails ought to serve as a point of reference and a general concept as much, if not moreso, than a standard to be held to if that makes sense my man. Any instance in which an artist is volunteering their time, full creative liberty is pretty much the only ethical option in my opinion. Were we to demand that everybody posting in this thread adhered to the "Towergirl's Canon" exclusively this kind of thread wouldn't be far removed from those wherein some off-board idea guy requests artists to work on his tattoo/video game/visual novel/book series without offering compensation in return.

I don't want to discourage anybody from drawing the characters as they appear, of course. I just think that those artists that don't use anything more than the general concept should be considered just as deserving of support and critique as those that do, know what I mean?

One thing I think I'm seeing that might pose a problem is the brush you're using. It looks like it's an "inking brush" that's 100% opacity 100% of the time with a relative size that's very sensitive to pressure. Something like this is really good for doing linework but perhaps less ideal for starting a piece. Consider finding a brush that has both size and opacity set to pressure so that you can sketch lightly and build upon that afterwards.

That is heavy my man. Even if you'd blow the image up and traced it without investing too much thought into it it would still take quite some time to bring it back to its former polish. Dayum shame, it had a lot of potential. Maybe set it aside for now and consider working through it when the inherent butthurt of the situation isn't so fresh. If you decide against that though it still looks pretty good at that size.

At first I wasn't sure what you meant but looking back you're absolutely right. In my clumsy original attempt (one that was more drawn from observation of the reference than the second believe it or not) I think I accentuated the tilt of his body (perhaps unintentionally) in a way that gave him gesture and character, despite the very naive drawing and generic design that portrayed it.

With my second go, the drawing itself might be more competent in many ways, but I'd subdued the distinctive body language-'the lean' of the original and changed the angle into a stiff 3/4 view. Despite the character being better drawn and having a more individualistic appearance, the drawing itself lost a bit of the 'story' along the way.

The rendering is simple and effective, seen from the neck down it's pretty sexy, even. The head is a problem area though; the width of the jawline is completely even on both the left and right sides which means that in no uncertain terms that she is looking straight ahead. Despite this you have her features (eyes, ears, etc.) tilting at a subtle, but noticeable angle which makes it look like her face is melting. Consider raising the stage-left ear and eye until they're perpendicular to their counterparts on the right, you'll have to even out the nose a bit too. In this instance, you'll want to move both eyes to the right slightly to center them as well.

Well done; the pectoral muscle to which the stage-left breast is attached would be slightly pulled upwards along with her finger-pointing arm. Ignoring that, the breasts do not seem to follow along the same path down the front of her ribcage as would the sternum, tilting as they appear to be downwards and to the left (while the base of the breasts are parallel, the stage right nipple and highlight is slightly higher and this position creates a visual contradiction with the tilt of the shoulders). Looks pretty good overall though tbhfam. One of the better interpretations of this ambiguous character I've seen

As another poster said her ears do appear to be tilted in a different way than normal, keep in mind that when it comes to human characters ears are usually pretty much vertical; parallel with the back of the mandible.

So this is that "clopping" I've heard so much about.

Very cute. That little butt crack coming out of the top of the thong looks off though. Really what I think you want there (if anything) is the "anterior posterior iliac spine" which is kind of an upside-down triangle shape at the top of the butt crack denoted by a pair of dimples. The butt crack itself doesn't poke out over the thong because it's pulled through it and comes out the top. Look up "thong" in google images and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I feel like her breasts are just a bit low considering her body is stumpier than normal too. Keep it up mane.

The shape of her ears is a bit inconsistent, though they're about equal in height, the stage-right ear appears to hang just a tad lower than its counterpart. Her head seems to be perfectly centered but her neck is very slightly off center or appears to be because of the differences in the left and right trapezius muscles.

CS5 has really good image resizing options, just mace sure you go for the one that says "recommended for image enlargement"
I was able to make the wallpaper in pic related without losing out on any of the screen tones which other options messed up

To your credit you did put the bend in the elbows in around the right place and the lighting seems to be coming from one source so you did a good job there.

Her torso is quite a bit too long; her upper body should be about 4 heads total to the bottom of the gooch, including the head itself. Some artists can break that rule and make a design that works in spite of that, but that will come with time. The character design is very "Silent Hill". Contrary to what that other anon said I think it looks like you have a decent control of your line. I can see where you had a misstep in a couple areas (her stage-right shoulder, stage-right hip) but chicken scratch overall doesn't seem to be a major issue, though it's something you should always be considerate of and working to minimize anyway.

Pretty good, but her wrench-like hands make me think of Half-Life and Gordon Freeman's adventures in Black Mesa and City 17, respectively. Her stage-right leg looks a tad longer than its counterpart. One good thing to try if you're not sure is to make a new layer and use the line tool to make a line from the knee to the ankle on both legs and compare. Of course, due to foreshortening and certain angles this only works if the legs are going in the same general direction.

Gorgeous rendering. One thing, it kind of looks to me that her nose might be working against the angle of her face (as described by her other features) though. Look at the angle of the eyes; the nose looks almost like it's straight across in comparison, although it's a very subtle decline it still kind of stands out to me (I think the actual line I made doesn't do it justice, use your best judgment)

I'm torn because part of me thinks the boobs should be reacting to gravity more but I also feel like the clothes might be working against that. Is it just me or did you delete your previous post and re-up the image at a very small resolution? You can't hide what's in side count famula. I think the expression and pose is kind of interesting even if I think it looks pretty awkward from the the waist down. There is a pretty big discrepancy in size between the back leg and the front leg and I think that contrast is a bit too sharp considering they're really not that far away from each other. I also believe the legs are a bit too small considering the size of the head and the upper body; they look to be about 3 heads long from bottom of the hips to the ankles. Remember that the shoes themselves are just an extension of the leg, the leg will still take up the same relative amount of real estate no matter what. Keep practicing!
