Hello /ic/,

First time on this board. For my art appreciation class in college they gave me this portrait to critique. I have to depict the "Mass and Balance" of this portrait. This is what I have so far:

>water droplets are seen in the background
>shadows
>water is propelling down lake
>Juxtaposition- Morning to noon
>Branches
>Age of Exploration?
>Surveying?
>Manifest Destiny?
> Louis and Clarke?
>Planning
>Rocks and boulders are bulk with a 3-D emphasis.
>Spring
>Branches resemble nice fixed contour lines.
>Color gradient is compatible with the opacity of the picture.

Obviously, I am an amateur when it comes to critiquing artwork. So I am hoping that perhaps you guys can point out anything that I might have missed.
