Remember when animators used to draw by hand instead of mouse?

Seriously, what the fuck happened to hand drawn cartoons? More and more it's done by mouse and program.

>>2399925
Producers discovered that digital lines and color is cheaper. The end.
>>
>>2399925

networks want cheaper and faster while still looking passable

>>
>>2399925
Nobody on tv draw with a mouse, you fucktard. also, cartoon network has tons of hand drawn shows (adventure time, steven universe, regular show, ect...)

Yeah, we did lose some things when we switched over from cels to digital, but I feel like the reduced cost of digital allows us to do more things with less money.
>>
>cheap
But still 5 times more expensive than your average anime.

Like others have said, nobody animates with a mouse, digital animation is still hand-animated for the most part.
In the context of CN shows, the overseas animators animate it all on paper first and then color digitally with special effects done in After Effects
>>
Watch some anime, faggot.
>>
>>2400004
Especially add the nostalgia factor to grown up ladies who watched it as little girls and will probably buy something if they see it too because "My childhood!"

Seriously this genration has a hard as fuck time growing up, everyone is cashing in on nostalgia right now.
>>
>>2399945
Because CN doesn't have a single show staring a girl protagonist, so rather than take chances and time developing a new series that might fail, just take an already existing popular franchise and reboot it. That's also why it's basically being rushed out and not being given as much care as it COULD be given.

Who's the real fag?

The thing that puts me off is the super thin lines that they use in most modern animations. Why is that? 9 times out of 10 it'd look better if they used thicker lines or varied the line weight.

thick for outer lines, thin for inner ones
>>
>>2399925
So its like this

If handrawn, takes forever to do. Inking is a bitch and they all have to be scanned into a computer. Digital doesnt have that hand drawn feel, but content can be made much quicker and easier. Now, Im guessing the animators dont give a fig about what you want if it means they have to go back to more painstaking methods of working.

If you want a revival of handrawn animation either start doing it yourself, Start lobbying for projects that feature it or support projects like this one.

it's called anime

modern anime use CG to replace some things like cars or complex structures/vehicles but it's still mostly hand animated

only western animation studios are lazy hacks who go for some awful and/or simple looking artstyle with only a few exceptions
>>
>>2400493
this looks too smooth, are you sure this isn't rotoscoped?
>>

>only western animation studios are lazy hacks

I actually tested for cleanup artist doing this type of line art, its mostly done in flash/toonboom using vector line tools.

Its not even faster doing it this way just more consistent. I can actually ink much fast digitally freehand than using the vector line stuff.

I ended up not even finishing the test, it didn't even feel like art, more like a working in a factory.
>>
Hand-drawn you get sloppy tweeners and inkers. Very sloppy, actually. Take Beauty and the Beast, for instance - lauded as a revolution in Disney animation - yet when you take it frame-by-frame, inkers were INCREDIBLY lazy, and I mean lazy - it wasn't a lack of skill, it was an abundance of apathy. Yet the keys were pristine. You can clearly tell when the key animator(s?) did the frames, and sometimes did several frames in a row just to get it right, where-as the tweeners couldn't even be bothered to use the same colors from frame-to-frame.
>>
>>2405372
>implying Disney animation isn't still one of the best in the world
This is why People hate weebs.
>>
kids really don't give a fuck or notice.

they care more about the jokes/characters/stories than the actual visuals. quality of animation is something you appreciate more when you are older.
>>
>>2405679
when was the last time disney made a hand animated film?

he's talking about the present you retard
>>
>>2405679

Didn't Disney drop 2D after The Princess and the Frog?
>>
>>2405685
I think so, since that film didn't do very well. The animation in Enchanted was gorgeous though I wish they'd do something more like that. Parodying themselves turned out beautiful.
>>
>>2405685
Actually apparently they dropped it after the Winnie the Pooh movie that they didn't advertise at all bombed even harder

Even though Reddit and /v/ attached themselves to the anime like a cold sore, I still like the animation.
>>
>>2406848
i enjoyed one punch man but i think it's overrated. However you can't deny that it had some really good animation for a 12 episode anime in 2016.
>>
>>2405679
it's not. anyone who's in the industry would tell you it isn't. their animation is has gotten cliche and their stories continue to have less heart and humanity
>>
>>2406868
Everything but the first episode sucked, animation wise tho....

It's just because it's easy for retards to enjoy, so the fanbase mainyl consists of you people, tumblr and /v/.

And then you have all the fanbase, who knows literally NOTHING about animation (like >>2406985 ) who goes "Such and epic anime xD luks so good amirite! XD"
>>
>>2407010
nothing wrong with OPM, post your mal.

it's just overrated but it's still good
