And when I post here - not las specifically - I get neither torn down nor built up and it's weirding me out. I draw stuff I think is interesting, I try different methods and subject matter and there's no reaction one way or another so I just feel confused. I know it needs to be better but not in what way.

I'm no pro but in my opinion you have a problem with colors. It looks all fade and eh, you should try darker colors and such (for shadows notably) or take risks. It's alright if you do some crazy stuff with them, just try out more "extreme" things, sometimes you can get interesting results.

Might be an unpopular opinion around here but I don't think copying other artists' work is bad (as long as you obviously don't pass it as your own or put it on your blog or some shit like that). Dodson and other well-known artists said so themselves, by copying things you also learn to develop your own handwriting.
LAS is about getting people to draw more and learn, so I don't see how using ref or copying is bad as long as it's obvious you did it to study something (i.e. a sketch or something). If you weren't in the mood to draw from imagination then copying stuff is better than not drawing anything at all is what I'm trying to convey.

For this specific piece, it looks like you are painting in local colors only and your saturation is really low, also the ear placement seems too far back.
As far as your general concerns, maybe try doing some more dynamic drawings? Camera angle and posing are a large part of what make drawings interesting, combined with cool design (composition is a big deal too). Find some artists' work that excites you and try to distill what it is about it you find exciting through studies.

Instead of getting eliminated it uses your "token" and you can make up for it the next day by double posting. If you miss another day then you're out. After 30 days of not missing a day you get another token.
