Who do you guys recommend for learning how the pelvis works?
What did you guys do to really understand it?
I'm doing a lot of studying from game art and sometimes it gets extremely hard to understand what's going on under the fabric, especially when they have some really dynamic perspective, and even when i'm doing gestures/studies from models sometimes it's still hard to understand how/where the pelvis is and how/why it's acting the way it is.
Also another thing i'm not understanding is how the pelvis works when you're in the air, I know when you're grounded the weight bearing leg makes the pelvis tilt in a certain way, but when you're falling/jumping I don't know how leg positioning affects the pelvic tilt
btw this pic right here is what I was talking about in the op, crazy perspective and pose
Your first mistake is studying league splash art. Riot cares more about flare then proper anatomy. That's not to say their art is bad mind you.

I'm definitely aware that some of the artists anatomy isn't the greatest at times, but they're still awesome to learn from since the poses are usually very dynamic.
btw all the new poppy splashes that came with the rework are amazing.
Nice thinly veiled league of legends splash art thread
There stuff has certainly improved over the years.

if you want to learn proper anatomy then don't learn it from dynamicized renditions of it. I dunno, look up superman? who else floats?

Vilppu.
>>2388317
What do you suggest? A certain series? or the book?
>>2388684
Anatomy videos
>>2388769
specifics? currently going through vilppu pelvis anatomy
>>2388114
Is studying things like game art really a good idea? I'd think the artists might exaggerate things to make it seem more 'cool' and stylised.
>>2388824
Of course it is, if that's the path you're trying to follow. Just like how David Finch was aspiring to be a comic book artist so he was constantly copying pages from comic books.
"I don't really draw from life, it's not really my thing. There's enough life around us. I'm a cartoonist." - dave finch
Obviously you're not going to neglect life, you need to understand everything to know how it works, and how to reproduce and create. I don't see how studying the dynamicized art/poses from video games and comics could be a bad thing, if that's what you want to do.

proko?
>>2388833
ah didn't read the whole thread but yeah anyways proko should be good help as well.
>>2388833

>"I don't really draw from life, it's not really my thing. There's enough life around us. I'm a cartoonist." - dave finch
That explains how shitty he still is for someone who's been drawing so long.
Learn the real thing, kids.

oimlaffin, wanna post your work, anon?
>>2389031
He's fairly solid at drawing the human figure from imagination. Better than anyone on /ic/ who swears on life drawing, that's for sure.
Maybe he has a different skillset than what you want to develop. I don't like his art too much either to be honest, but that's mainly because he draws in this typical 90s comic book style which I personally find very unappealing. But that's the style he enoys to draw in and is his personal choice, not because he doesn't do enough life drawing.

Draw bitches as they grind on you in the club homie

proko has a video explaining it in detail. add some studies of the muscles on top of that and you'll get it eventually.
>pelvis in the air
literally what the fuck. you think legs will dislocate or your hips will start changing form?
>>2390676
obviously not, but it always seems like relation is always a bit different

get a girlfriend and study hers...

Women in general are ugly, sometimes disgusting. I'd prefer to rely on actual good materials.

Like men, you mean?
I made a shitty tutorial, also here's the link:

I love this "artistic skill trends upwards in a direct line forever." meme.
It trends upwards quickly for a few years as you learn your fundamentals, then tapers off as you hone them, then flattens out as it hits the realm of either mastering photorealism or subjective choices of style preference.
>>2392589
thanks for the shit tut
>hurr how can I understand how the pelvis works normally without fabric getting in the way
porn, faggolas
if you want to know the why and how, look up anatomy lessons for artists
>>2389031
This is a funny statement considering that his work is kinda bordering on the more realistic spectrum of cartooning. If this was a quote from the dude who did Calvin and Hobbes then I could understand it way more.
>>2392589
Can't stand recipe construction. Makes it so much more complicated imo.
>>2393208
bait
>>2393208
in what way?
I made a tutorial about the pelvis and made it as simple as I could. Hope it's clear. If it is I'll try going more in depth next time and covering the back of the pelvis too.
>>2393541
Thanks m8, that was actually helpful.
>>2389410
i want to go to night club with a sketchbook now
>>2393541
thank you! that was great, if you could helping with the back of the pelvis would be appreciated as well.
for me pelvis itself is not as much of a problem as connecting it to the ribcage. not from reference, but i find it really hard to memorize proportions here
>>2394347
vilppu anatomy vids.
>>2396045
looking forward to it man.
>>2393541
nice! thanks for that
>>2393541
you made it too easy, thanks anon
>>2393541
great stuff anon!
