Does anyone else think that /ic/ is actually a decent place for learning? I'll admit it, as much as I really do hate reddit, I do browse it for hobby-related subjects, and while it's usually quite informative (compare business, personal finance and investing forums compared to /biz/ jesus christ) /learnart/ for example is fucking shit and the worst qualities of reddit just converge to make it insufferable. I guess being anonymous and not having to be nice makes things better here, shitposting aside.

Also I think the format of 4chan is better, particularly when it comes to posting images, for talking art.
>>
I do like it more than that shitty /learnart/. May as well be DA.
>>
What's the point of this thread? To say we're better? What's the most we can get out of this thread?
>>
What do you think of https://www.reddit.com/r/ArtFundamentals/comments/3gzwrg/lesson_1_lines_ellipses_and_boxes_version_3/?

Learn art has a handful of decent artists but yeah you're right. I once posted a drawing on there and got someone being an asshole and another person giving me really helpful critique. He apparently studied in atlier and was pretty knowledgable. I think it depends on your level. If you're better than total beginners but not that good then you'll probably get ignored. I've also seen pretty shitty "stylized" art voted to the top, the dude was asking for help and the top reply was "it seems like you already know how to draw :)" either that or you'll get crits like "needs more shading."

That sub is good but you can only post stuff from drawabox guy's website. He gives pretty helpful crits though.

/ic/ is alright. I'll say the sort of honesty, and negative criticisms is a hell of a lot more constructive than the hug box that is reddit, especially in regard to getting better at drawing. Still a lot of garbage to ignore on here though.
>>
hands down, best free place on the internet for learning.

>>2385293
Is absolutely right, but there's a lot of gold here too. If you do enough of your own homework to start asking the right questions, you'll find that some very well practiced and informed people lurk here. They olnly come out of the woodwork when appropriate though.
>>
The only thing I hate about /ic/ is how slow it is. Sometimes it takes forever to get a response and sometimes you just get ignored. Are there any art communities that are super active and not shit? I've only browsed permanoobs and crimson daggers but it seems like 99% of people just post in their sketchbooks and there's no real sense of community there.
>>

That is the eternal conundrum of internet communities

As population grows speed increases but quality decreases

/tg/ I think is a good example of the sweet spot.

/ic/ could afford to be a little bit more populated
>>
>>2385177
they don't post books, or if they do, it's probably hidden or someshit
>>
>>2385232
I swear I posted in this thread and now it's gone.

So who the fuck knows who even made the thread.
>>
>>2385177
the same anons that come here also go there. They a literally the same people. this place is just as much of a shit hole as that place. they both talk shit
>>
>>2386025
speak for yourself, redditor.
>>
>>2386025
ive been to both and this place is much better. On reddit, people get hugged for shit work.
>>
>>2386132
you obviously never read a pornthread
>>
I don't like to use anything else than /ic/ now. Been trying to be active on reddit, but shit, there's no way one can improve by following advice of redditors.

Then there's forum community CA.org, well, it's good only for older members. The beginners get left in the dark ignored. Everyone just updates their own sketchbook oblivious of others, more or less. And it constantly crashes.

I doubt there's better place than this now.
>>
>>2386161
how is reddit's advice any different? they say the same things you get here. show me something to prove your point.
>>
minus the occasionally shitposts. ic is gud. but i haven't gone to reddit that much so idk which subs are the best for art critiques.
>>
>>2386236

Maybe the same, but posts there seems to be ignored. Especially beginner ones. My first thread had first reply only after 2 weeks

Or that's based on luck, either way it does not matter anymore. Reddit as a whole is a confusing place imo.
>>
>>2386470
perhaps you never seen the catalog? there are plenty of threads and posts that go ignored daily on /ic/

the only difference i can tell so far is that /ic/ gets more butthurt about money making artists than anyone else.

4chan and Reddit practically use the same mods to generate shit content. tell me how one is better than the other?
>>
>>2386136
you're right. i put very little attention into the porn thread.
>>
>>2386302

And that's why you can't give meaningful critiques "across the board" because advice is always limited to the medium it's communicated in. So basically you have to chose between going high or low.

Wow I just looked into that subreddit and all I can say is
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Holy shit I feel so bad for everyone wasting their time there.
