How do you go about figure drawing when you're an absolute beginner? Should I start by learning how to draw hands and face separately or should I tackle it completely?

A good way is to do full figures studies, then try to apply what you learnt by drawing figures from imagination, then study up on the individual body parts you had the most trouble with and repeat.
