Do you prefer realism or surrealism? Why? Do you think one takes more skill than the other? Why or why not?

Surrealism takes creativity
Realism takes skill
Photorealism is a waste of time

generally, and this goes toward all art, if i look at it, and cant tell what the fuck im looking at i dont like it.

if i look at art and i, as someone whose skills suck all kinds of dick think i could legitimately do equal or better work, i don't like it.

what i apreciate in art is skill, not a story or a message, raw fucking skill, now if that skill is pushing a message or a story, all the better.

there are some exceptions with needing to know what the fuck i'm looking at, and also some exceptions to skill, but by and large they are the rules.

it's what i have a disdain for modern art, conceptual art and the like, while even heavily commercial art i can enjoy.

as for >>2374467 photo real isn't a waste of time, but copying a photograph perfectly is, well... at least small scale copying a photograph is.

I remember the last time I went to our states modern museum. They have a room for surrealism, and I felt like I needed to shake a layer of dust off my shoulders. Surrealism has had its time. DalĂ was a really talented painter but the motif world of the whole movement is just... After that there was the cubism room, as if things couldn't get worse. The things that stood out in their collection was some Matisse and Klee and a few other things, like the Soviet propaganda posters. But my point is, surrealism really is dead and I feel like there isn't much point in discussing it anymore.
