>tfw memes are taking over art's role
>tfw memes contain more social commentary than contemporary art
>tfw the democratization of art is becoming a reality

It worries me not. I look at art because I like to see pretty stuff, or for strong storytelling, not to be told for the 2500th that I should care about women rights and and fight against the reptilian illuminati government. Memes rarely give me that "Oh god that looks gorgeous" or "I'm feeling so many emotions right now" kind of deal.

What do you mean? I'm a simple kind of person with simple kind of needs. Maybe memes were mean't to take this role over art.

well we probably won't agree about the definitio of art but while most of them are used for "the lulz" the way they fonction is unique. no original "artist", you have a set of codes that can be claimed by anybody and twisted in any way all the while being part of the "piece" because the point of origin is just trivia.
you can see this kind of stuff recently particularly with gondola. there is undeniably huge artistic potential, for now it seems that it has to remain kind of silly and random for people to engage but it's evolving. and OP is right when he says that the evolution of those things over the past few years has been more interesting than anything in contemporary art.
except maybe banksy, he did some pretty interesting stuff

Meme magic is real. Art no longer has any power.

Can't argue with any of that, anon. And certainly wouldn't argue about the definition of art, it's different for everyone and there's some dude out there who probably considers memes as an art, without being exactly right or wrong because of blurry definitions.

Contemporary art cannot be that shit, right?
>>
>>2371947
Well, all you memeposters would probably be pretty fucking bored if artists suddenly stopped creating those video games, animu, cartoons, tv shows and movies you constantly consume.
>>
>>2373967
I wouldn't really call the majority of those, art, you know. At least not ART.

Above is way better Banksy is a rip off.
