pretty much just understanding the form you're painting, how light works and what it looks like on forms. Scott Robertson's How to Render book helped me a lot as well as pretty much every other resource that teaches from a 3d modeller's perspective, like some color and light videos from Gnomon Knowing your anatomy definitely helps; you can't paint what you don't know.

There are a scant few flaws with this, they're very subtle, and because of the stylization they're mostly irrelevant. However here's what I can see as long as you ask. Assuming I'm reading her head correctly her stage-left eye is very slightly lower than her stage-right, and her stage-left "hand paw" is marginally larger than her stage-left, thicker at least. One ear is a bit lower than another as well, but that could certainly be explained by her having one of them dipped slightly voluntarily. I really like it, keep it up.

Hey, /ic/, I hope it's not to rude, but I'd like to ask a small favour. You may have noticed that there's a thread up on /tg/ about finishing the project. All I ask is if someone could tell me how to clean up some of the old art (top two rows or so). You'll notice that the lines are hard, pixelated. I would like, without totally redrawing them, to make the lines look like the ones on the bottom.
The very first artist for the project used a custom brush. The second artist obviously didn't. Any help would be appreciated. I'm willing to do the work, but I'm unsure of how to do it.

I'm not expecting to actually get there in two years at all, but having a set timeframe and a picture from someone from /ic/ with all of the artistic attributes I want to achieve is going to help keep me motivated. I have other two year goals that people have laughed at me for but I figure when I hit two years I'll just add another year and then another. When I finally reach my goals I'll have found even higher things to reach for.

You can either blur some of the edges of the pixels like gausian blur to some soften it but the result will be pretty much shitty.
Either way, I think it would be best to redraw it with the brush you used on the other.
You can do Select > color range> pick black color> duplicate > gausian blur.
You can paint over those pixel brushes too to soften it.

Her third eye looks a bit flat however and her stage-left hand appears relatively small though. Not to mention her back foot. With regards to the hand just keep in mind that the hand's length from the palm to the tips of the longest finger should be about equal to the length of the bottom of the shin to the top of the eyebrows on the face.

i wouldn't bother going into details like the wrinkles in clothing if you don't have arms and legs. the torso disappears at the bottom. the horns and eyes look flat on the paper.
try mapping out all the parts in an imaginary 3d space on the paper and then draw the shapes around them.
