What does /ic/ think of clutch pencils? I always see the Staedtler mars technico recommended, but what does it offer over other brands?

Also general pencil thread.

i literally use these to draw my comics
>inb4 wah u use german tools no fair theyre expensive wah
i collect made in germany art utensils because of their rarity and status. I'll do fine with made in timor leste pencils and inks. its your skill that decides if youre a good artist or not
>>
Mars Technicos are what I chose because they're sold everywhere. All the other brands I've seen are only available in specialty art stores.

Staedtler is a reliable brand. Them and Pentel are my two favorites.

I love the Koh-I-Noor Versatil 5347, I haven't really used a normal pencil since I got my first one.
I love how weighted it is, it just feels better. Only problem is with sharpening the leads.

Having only used the Mars technico a few times, I remember it being easy to use, but sometimes the metal grips would jam and the lead would slide out. I may have been unlucky though. Since then, I use a Faber Castell 4600 - like the one in the OP picture, but the cap has a sharpener built into it so you can grind the pencil back to full sharpness pretty easily. The only problem occurs when you put too much force into the sharpener and then lead gets ground into the cap. You can pick them up online, they are sold with refills, and in my opinion they work just as well as the technico. They use 2mm leads, and the leads come in all grades, in packs of 10. Be careful though, they're pretty brittle and can fracture inside the pen if you drop it.

Pic related was done with a 4600 and 2B lead. I hope I shed some light on your question.

Are you trolling? They're all made in Germany, and Lumographs are common in most of the world. Hell, they're more common than the cheaper Tradition pencils.

literally 3 of those are german made lumos
even krauts complain they cant find german lumos because theres like 4 staedler factories in germany that's making them and all of them are shipped to east asia because chinks put yurop stuff on a pedestal.

>>2368125
Wrong. german lumos have a MADE IN GERMANY stamped on them. If you got a lumo without a country of origin stamp, its made in some embarrassing 3rd world shithole. Protip: the lead performance of german lumos is tombow tier and much much less prone to breaking. Also because of the strict quality control of the krauts, all german lumos lead are perfectly centered.

Also if anyone post rotring shit in this thread they should kill themselves. All rotring products are manufactured in china, like hell im paying money for some overpriced shit made in chinese sweatshops. if I see a rotring i gag because some dumbass just got scammed

I use Rotring stuff with high quality led. Not because it's German or wellmade, but because my SO got it for me. Before I got a set of Rotring mechanicals (2mm, .7mm, .5mm) I just used a cheap Pentels or whatever I could find for cheap at the store.

Please read my post. I didn't buy it. My fiance wanted to get me some nice stuff for drawing and got me a set. I have had no issues with them in the ~2 years I've had them

>>2368376
What series? I hear the 800's are really bad. I have the 600's and I have had no issues with them. I don't see the point of the led hardness indicator, but w/e maybe if I was a draftsman or non-pleb at art I would use it.

Uni leads are super smooth and well worth the money. Better than Caran d'Ache
>>
>>2368803
Mitsubishi leads + leadholder is fucking magic.
>>
>>2368756
issue is not the problem here. any chinese brand pencils from the dollar store is as reliable as any big europe or american brand.

Its just plain disgusting to use high end utensils from german companies such as rotring and realize that theyre made in china. Get some standards, bragging to your friends that your stuff are german made shit is the best feeling in the world.

its like bragging about your Made in Germany Leica in front of your nikon and canon friends

throw those rotring in the trash and buy some staedler mars or FC TK
>>
>>2369365
I'm not going to spend more time defending a GIFT that was given to me on this board.

OP, I really like my Rotrings. Staedletter is good too. Really it comes down to what YOU like in a product. Not what /ic/ tells you to buy. Blackwings are good as well, but spendy. I personally like anything with Mitsubishi lead in it.

OP I use a technico and a kohinoor 2mm the wierd problem the technico has is its looseness, especially with a fresh lead, like, the part you can't see has a bit of room to jiggle around, it makes it a little more prone to snapping and has some weird vibrations now and then but overall is fine, the koh i noor doesn't have the sharpener top but I use it for coloured leads anyway which are soft enough to 'sharpen' on paper in like 5 seconds, on the plus side it holds the lead much better since it has a nice tight barrell and works more like a well built mechanical pencil but for some reason they made it really short so I have to snap a sixth of the lead off just to get it all in at first, the kohinoor leads are cheap though so it's not a big deal, plus they have 6B and colors.

>>2368009
the technico has the sharpener top too but I want to try the faber but it looks plasticy in the pic, I prefer weighty metal shit.
>>
>>2367959
koh-i-noor is pretty standard. I use their stuff as well it's good. They have a bunch of different thicknesses as well so that's nice and you can get it pretty much anywhere here in yurops.
>>
>>2367817
Stop using pencils and move on to pens exclusively.
>>
They're cheap and awesome. Though I use Chinese cheapos but they do well the trick. Only 0.3 USD for a clutch pencil, heh.
>>
>>2368146
Does anyone really care where the supplies were made? If they're good supplies they're good supplies.
>>

>implying the NEETs who post on this board can afford nice drawing pens
>>
>>2370305
This. However, Germany has a certain reputation for producing quality goods. So if you are choosing between 2 products and one is made in germany and the other in china, you have a better chance of getting quality shit if you go with the german one (or at least that's the perception of many people I don't know if there are stats to back this up).
>>
I use them because they are more convenient than pencils imho. I use kooh-i-noor. The teacher in my class always tells me it's much worse than pencils and eyes me down every time he sees me using it. Aren't the leads the same? I can't really tell the difference, I use koh-i-noor leads and my instructor usually uses koh-i-noor pencils that the school buys, seems to me it's the same kind of lead.

I had one a few years ago but I gave it away to a girl I was dating who was a pretty good illustrator.

The new one should be in the mailbox any day now. This brush pen is nice. Especially with the converter.

maybe sometime next week, one of these
http://www.ackermanpens.com/

They just need to design a new pen body because...I mean...that white and that font kill the aesthetic
>>
while this thread is up does anyone have experience using colored inks in a brushpen? are there maintenance/flow issues with colored ones? I've only every seen people use black with them.
>>
>>2367984
I wouldn't even say that- Staedtler is fairly good yes, but the Faber mech pen at the top is a piece of shit.
>>
>>2372240
make sure the ink doesn't contain shellack otherwise kiss that brush pen goodbye. try fountain pen ink
>>
>>2372240
No experience with fancier brush pens, but I keep a couple of waterbrushes filled with Ecoline and fountain pen ink with no problems.
>>
>>2372177
is your esterbrook a flex? I am thinking on buying one if that's the case since pilot is pretty faggy about their nibs (anc everything in general, same goes for their converters)
>>
>>2367817
I use a Mitsubishi with Staedtler leads.
I wish Staedtler pencils were as good as the leads themselves. Up to this year I was using Lyra pencils but they're not shipping to Mexicuck anymore so I have to live with the slightly worse plus more expensive Staedtler pencils or buy shitty Derwent.
>>
>>2372297
Man I WISH!

The flex nib is hard to get, except maybe if you have a chance on ebay. But I was reading the reviews from some users and they claim it's stiffer than the 2550. I'm tempted to drop 40 bucks on that nib tho
