Deadwood designs is already circulating on the internet, my copy of "the art and illustrations of yoh yoshinari" is still in customs. Probably it'll arrive today or tommorow i'm not sure.

The scan that you saw in sadpanda has only 48 pages whereas the original book has 100+ pages of colored illustrations and its sketches.

Hello. I've only read 'How To Draw Like A Boss' so far and it wasn't very good, dropped it halfway through as I noticed it wasn't really teaching me anything and was just kinda bad.

I know that question has been asked a lot but with which book should I start?

Some Loomis book(s)?
Bert Dodson - Keys to Drawing?
Michael Hampton - Figure drawing?
Ernest Norling - Perspective Made Easy?
Another one I haven't heard of yet?

I'd really like some guidelines and opinions there if possible. And I also would like books that force me to practice and draw a lot. I feel like I wasted my time with that book mentioned above. I'm motivated but I do no want to wire my brain in the bad way by practicing 'wrong habits'. Thanks.
>>
>>2366600
you see this shit? i dont know who this artist are but his meme is gold. exposure is mighty
>>
>>2366600
Bert Dodson first, no arguing about that, do all the exercises if you can't get live models get photos.
Then Do Perspective made easy don't think about anything else before you are done with those or you will get overwhelmed.

Are we allowed to make requests in this thread?

There is a book called "The Natural Way to Draw" by Kimon Nicolaides. All of my art friends have recommended it to me If anyone has it I would appreciate it.

If you dont have it but have read it, I would be interested in your opinion on the book.
>>
Not really a book but does anyone have the vandruff perspective videos?
>>
>>2366671
I'll follow your advice and see how it goes then, thanks anon.
>>
>>2367151
It's okay. I wouldn't recommend it. It's heavily focused on giving you tools to be successful at life drawings, so to get it to actually work you'll need to combine it with a lot of hardcore life drawing sessions. His schedule for practice is very rigid. Personally I got very little mileage out of it. Too much focus on very abstract fundamentals that you would pick up on anyway while working out other topics.

What Bammes book has the best/most illustrations?

>Der Nackte Mensch (248MB cbz)
>Die Gestalt Des Menschen (242MB pdf)
>Wir Zeichnen Des Menschen (9.59MB pdf)
>Sehen Und Verstehen (83.3MB pdf)
>Kunstler Anatomie (18.2MB pdf)

I nicked a copy of each, but they all look and sound pretty samey.

The quality of the files themselves vary a lot, I'm also wondering if anyone thinks they have a better (or different) version of them than I do, post if you got em.

>>2367437
You can get away with simply reading D'Amelio's perspective book (or was it Norling's? I forgot), Vandruff approaches teaching perspective from the same school of thought to D'Amelio, his book is dense with illustrations on every page, so you'll learn quite a bit faster from it imo, it's only about 100 pages.

here's the perspective videos if you really want em

>>
I remember /ic/ raving about a book a few years ago that dealt with lighting and shadow. It was rather large and extremely expensive, hitting maybe $70+ on Amazon then.

I can't remember what it was called, I just remember it had a city nightscape photo on the cover, or a skyscraper at night. Something like that. Anybody have an idea what it might have been?

This would be great! I'm actually having slight problems with motivation, or dedication to drawing. I have the desire to learn, and yet I can't cope with failure.

http://www.amazon.com/Figure-Drawing-Invention-Michael-Hampton/dp/0615272819

Is people on IC/ still buying it?
>>
>>2379577
I'm a beginner and I feel it's really useful. He even writes a passage on how to use the book. There is quite a bit of information but he compiled it all to be read/understood/drawn in that order. I made sure to read it in its entirety before doing any copying/true memorization of the drawings

He has a fuckton of diagrams and drawings of planes of the body/body parts/face. The book even covers the basic stuff like proportion/shading.

You can actually download that e-book somewhere; I believe I got the link in an old art book thread. It's how I decided to buy it on amazon after reading it.

TLDR: A lot of drawings and information to memorize, but take it one step at a time and really try to understand and it will be fine.

>Keys to drawing
I got recommended that book and I don't know why. Does it even have any value? It just seems to use the "express yourself" and the "anything is art" views towards drawing.
>>
>>2385369
U wot m8? Did you actually get the right book?
>>
So it's not a download but I did find a pdf to Michael Hampton's Figure Drawing book.

One in the sticky? Did you even read the table of contents or skim through it before you made this retarded post? The book gives you methods to see and learn like an artist, it encourages you to try out new methods of drawing, it touches measuring, perspective, lighting and construction basics.

Nothing like you just described.

It's pretty good. I like that it's more concept art than promo illustrations like a lot of other artbooks. The interviews are really interesting too.

Also wtf the fuck are those viewfinders and shit, im fucking trying to draw on graphic tablet, theres no fucking viewfinders on that shit.

>>
>>2395404

Thank you, I'll have a try reading it. So far I've read 'Art & fear', 'the perfect bait', but also have the art spirit in my reach, haven't got to it yet though.

Ironically I've got dozens of books downloaded, but I don't seem to have patience and dedication to read them all. Also art educational books take longest to get them done because of exercises in them.
>>
>>2395414
No prob, I'll stick around to make weekly recommendation so it won't be overwhelming. It helps to know more about creativity and stuff, something to debunk shit or whatever.

Same here, I still have to find good books that I can stick to... Though right now, currently reading Color and Light and also Michael Hampton's book.

Just choose one or two art educational books that really don't overwhelm you and you might be able to finish them in few months, bro
>>
>>2395485

I'm not yet interested in studying color yet if all I've got are graphite pencils for now. I do plan to buy charcoal pencil set sometime later, for now I'll be fine with what I have.
But I catch your thought, basically I should stick to a book that is beginner friendly, and doesn't go like 'draw the rest of the owl' way too soon. Although I tried to work from loomis figure drawing book, and I didn't even pass a quarter of it as I felt stuck.

Not anon you're replying to but would you say the book isn't worth buying if you're already familiar with his videos?

I love that guy but I recall him quickly skimming through his book in front of the camera and it looked indeed that the book didn't have much to offer for people already initiated with his style. I could be wrong through. I'd still like to take a look a it.

Anyone have Robert Beverly Hale's "Master Class in Figure Drawing"?
>>
>>2397044
I've not read the whole book yet, but it can be seen as an extended compilation of his videos:: an step by step guide from the very beginner until the more advanced techniques used for rendering with a pen. He gives you some advice along the way. I think it's worth the price, but you'll probably be already familiar with some of the chapters on it.

Bought the book (Amazon too forever) and I say it is worth it. Currently doing value scales and will soon jump on gradation. I view it as a guide of sorts to his videos, like if you are a beginner and didn't know where to start on his teachings then this book is for you.

I am speaking to those artists that take their work seriously.
If you do not, and feel like that's "pretentious"...what do you want me to do about it?
>>
>>2403663
You are mistaking confidence and self-assurance with "pretentiousness".

Sorry, I am not here looking for advice from anyone, looking for critiques or any of that. I am not looking for a following either. You don't like my work, so what? Forget about it then. Keep it movin. You don't like my site, it ain't for you. lol You don't like my comments but feel the need to respond, do as you please. This is the internet, you are anonymous, in effect, to me, you are technically nobody, or an entity with MPD. So, can I take you seriously, sometimes yes, sometimes no. This is why I use a tripcode, so at least you know it was me.

Peace out.
>>

>who are you to decree what makes an artist serious or not
Where and how did you get that from any of this? lol wat?

>get over yourself.

I was going to respond to this in an mildly-abrasive manner but then I realized you completely misread my comments. Completely.
